Dodger grinned wide as he swung through the door of the captain’s cabin, look promising trouble as his eyes danced. In one clever hand, he held a rolled up scrap of paper, but ragged and torn on the corner, not near as impressive looking as all the work to get it entailed, but Dodger set it down on the captain’s table reverently enough that it ought to be worth something.
Seemed a bit redundant in the saying, but Dodger felt pleased enough with himself he could’ve shouted it from the top of the ship’s mast.
“A clue to find the map.”
he remembers being young quite well : remembers a flurry of feelings, the thirst for adventure being so deeply rooted into his bones that he feared, upon it’s removal, there would be nothing beneath his skin. a child condemned to the discontented sign of a mother so desperately trying, it was often hard to accept the nature of his change. and maybe that’s why he takes to kids who war life as he did ; distant, yearning stares and shaky palms to stubborn to open wide. the newly christened captain finds his life paid forward in a way that mirrors, almost, what silver had offered him. ( minus the piracy, of course. ) and he turns, lips twitching into an absent smile before it rolls backward like the tide, eyes pulling over the piece of paper set ceremoniously onto his table.
❛ is that what that is?? ❜ jim steps forward with fingers outstretched, perpetually grimy hands dripping across tattered paper to pull it his way. the parchment unfolds for him, brows furrowing as he glances it over. ❛ and pray tell, where did you find this???? ❜
