Do you know what it’s like to live with a burning intensity? Because I do. Each day is a dance of sensualism, push and pull between who I was, and who I am meant to be. I search for a way to immortalise the desire I feel into constellations, so that centuries from now people will be pointing to the midnight sky, saying ‘Venus, that’s her’. 

It’s a terrifying act really, each person who glides through the revolving door of my life I have to feel the fullness of them in its entirety, despite the suffering it might bring upon me. That’s the poet’s choice, to choose momentary chaos if it means I have the possibility of being possessed by something magnificent. 

Most people don’t understand that. They can’t play the game of seduction. They’re addicted to the rush of dopamine, extracting what they can from unassuming victims. And it all falls flat. 

But me, I desire violently, and I wait. I devote my body and soul to the creation of magnetism, so that you have no choice but to feel haunted by the trace of my tongue, the softness of my lips, the sweet melodies of my words. 

You’ll be tormented if you even try to understand this whilst living off cheap, recycled tricks. Only something dark and divine can violently caress a person’s mind. To be hypnotised isn’t staring at a spiral with monotone words fed into your ear, it’s the feeling of being crushed into the weight of the Earth from the horror of realising the intensity of another person is too much for you to bear. It’s when all reason vacates your mind, you lose every sense of who you once were, and can only feel the dominating force of another. 

And when you finally learn this, when you let madness unravel in place of rational thought, you will become ablaze, and it will be the greatest joy you ever experience. Until then, I'll pity the man who can't transcend lust into erotic enlightenment.

The traces of you were gone. For the first time in years I was able to breathe in my own air without remnants of your smoke suffocating me. 

But there was once a time where the magnificent cruelty of your hand had turned me into the living dead girl. I feared I may never be brought back to life. It required an army of scientists and several rounds of electrocution to jolt my nerves awake, for my blood to beat hot and thick around my heart again. 

And then slowly, as I began to gain consciousness, when even in my most desperate moments I didn’t reach for you, it didn’t make me feel proud - I was ashamed that the thought of you still lingered in my mind like a weed I couldn’t pull out no matter how hard I tugged.

Then on that fateful eve I finally won the war. Your name appeared on my screen, the light of the notification forcefully imposing its way through the darkness I learned to call home. I waited for the response I’d grown accustomed to - chest tightening, pace rising, fears swirling to the centre of my mind. But this time it never came. Instead I was met with indifference. You were rust I could scrape away. The douses of holy water had worked and I was finally clean. 

For the first time I could touch myself and my body belonged to me. I didn’t feel your hands ripping my flesh apart, I felt my own soft touch. The ache between my legs was able to grow without flashes of you rippling through my mind. 

And I laughed. It was la rire de la méduse. I no longer needed your validation, no longer craved the whirlwind your words created in my mind, no longer missed your touch. I was alive again in a way I'd never felt - it made the pain, the months of penance worth it.
