*raises hand* may I please ask for a bibliomancy? Why do I feel so deeply uncomfortable and negative with regard to my family? Thank you so much for doing these, you're wonderful xx
“Rattlesnakes! Don’t take chances with ‘em, an’ if they argue, shoot first. If a kid’ll kill a cop, what’ll the men do? Thing is, get tougher’ they are. Treat ‘em rough. Scare ‘em.”- The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
Why are you uncomfortable with your family?
Well, this passage is from one of the chapters in the book told in a stream of conscious narrative style. It’s the collective thoughts of people scared of the migrant “Okies” who were traveling west due to the dust bowl. These people were scared of what they didn’t know and based their assumptions about the migrant workers on gossip and sensationalist headlines.
So what does it mean? You are different from your family. You probably have beliefs and opinions which they disagree with and which may even upset them. You’re frustrated because you feel like you have to hide parts of yourself they wouldn’t like to keep the peace, just as the migrant workers try to lay low and move quickly from town to town to avoid causing disturbances. Like the workers, you are considered a “foreigner” in “their” territory, and so you are forced to play by their rules. However, also like the workers, you are not /really/ a foreigner and you have as much right to exist as your family members do. You are allowed to be yourself, unapologetically. You won’t begin to feel comfortable until you start asserting yourself. Disagree with them in discussions and don’t back down from your opinions. Learn to say “no”. It’s a scary thing, and sometimes you can’t really do this until you no longer live in the same house as them, so please don’t do anything that could potentially put you in danger. I don’t know your particular family dynamics, after all.
This is so accurate, I can’t even begin telling you… Especially the “foreigner” theme. Thank you so so much!!!!!!
Free Bibliomancy Readings
Hey guys,
Just for fun I want to try something different: Bibliomancy! Drop a question in my ask box and I will flip to a passage in a book to find the answer. I’ll leave this going all day!

Free readings are closed for today! Thank you so much for all of your wonderful questions, I had a really good time interpreting the texts for you!
may I have a bibliomancy reading on how he feels/thinks about me? thank you
“He wanted a best friend, a Katherine, and a Theorem. And after almost three weeks in Gutshot, it seemed he was becoming worse off than when he’d started.” -An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
I hate to say I think you’re barking up the wrong tree. You’re looking so hard for love that maybe you’re searching too narrowly, and coming up empty. I kept getting vaguely negative Bibliomancy readings, and this was the last quote I pulled before I asked my tarot cards for further clarification. I pulled the 3 of Swords, which indicates disappointment, not getting what you want, and unfulfilled wishes. However, it also means that better things are on the horizon.
I would say let this guy go. There are lots of other opportunities for you, and focusing on him takes you away from all of the other possibilities that you could pursue.

Biblomancy please? On my love life. I'm single but I really like someone. Any messages you get. Thank you!
“I even dreamed: flying dreams, dreams of meeting Nia on a bus and talking with her, looking at her, seeing her off a few stops down the line. (Never having sex with her, unfortunately.)” It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
As a preface to this reading, Nia is a character in this story who dates the protagonist’s best friend. The protagonist spends much of the story pining over her.
I think here the talk of dreams indicates that most of your crush on this person exists in fantasy; you probably spend more time daydreaming about this person than actually interacting with them. However, dreams don’t get you anywhere. So, there are two key messages to this reading:
1. If what you want is to transform your day dreams into reality, you have to take action. I know situations can be complicated, but assuming the simplest case here, just ask your crush out. The worst thing they can say is no.
2. In the book, Nia ultimately ends up being shallow and insensitive. She has her own problems which she pushes into other people, and the protagonist, Craig, begins to realize that he fantasized about her so much that he imagined her to be something she wasn’t. He painted over her flaws. So, this reading also offers a warning: failure to live in the “real world” so to speak and continuing to entertain fantasies and daydreams for too long is ultimately going to disappoint you.
Hi! Bibliomancy: how are things gonna go at my new job? I'm excited ha!
“Sula stepped off the Cincinnati Flyer into the robin shit and began the long climb up into the Bottom. She was dressed in a manner that was as close to a movie star as anyone would ever see. A black crepe dress splashed with pink and yellow zinnias, fo tails, a black felt hat with the veil of net lowered over one eye.” Sula by Toni Morrison
In this passage, Sula returns to her hometown of the Bottom after a period of travel. She is recognizably different from the others, in dress and attitude.
Sula is an odd book to divine from, as many of the experiences in the book will feel very foreign to a lot of people. The characters, while well written, are unusual and for many not very relatable. Comparing anyone to Sula, who is ruthless and rather frightening at times can be difficult because most people don’t have those qualities at all. I have to interpret the text more loosely than literally. With that in mind, what I believe this reading is telling me is that you may be stepping into an environment in which you stand out from others. You may not quite fit in. However, one key idea in the book is that though the community distances themselves from Sula, ultimately she makes the bottom a better and stronger place. They need her.
To summarize: You may not initially fit in with your coworkers or team, but that doesn’t mean your contributions aren’t important. In fact, your individuality is key to your own happiness and the overall functionality of the group.

Biblomancy reading please? What gifts do I posses? ♥
“It’s /pretty/!” She says.“And you’re done.” I hand it to her.“Yeah. It helps, you know. With my depression. I came in here with depression.”- It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
This passage is incredibly fitting for your question, as it is when the protagonist of the novel discovers that he makes really unique and beautiful art while he’s in the mental hospital. He’s spent his whole life trying to succeed academically because everyone told him he would need to excel in school to become something “important”, like a doctor or a lawyer. However, as it turns out, Craig is an artist. His gift was there all along, hiding in plain sight.
In a very literal sense this could indicate that one of your gifts is artistic ability.
In a much broader sense, this reading reveals that 1. Your gifts have the ability to positively impact others and2. You probably have incredible talents which you haven’t realized, perhaps because you’re chasing other dreams. Maybe those dreams aren’t yours. Are you pursuing things that other people want for you? Do you want them too?
My advice would be to look at how you’re allocating your energy. What are you spending most of your time doing? Do you love it? Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, but which doesn’t “fit” with your current goals or self image?
Try new things. Try creative activities. You’ll find what you’re meant to do if you go off the beaten path.
Additionally, this advice still applies if you were inquiring about psychic gifts. Most people don’t wake up one morning and get really good at divination, or have amazing intuition. You have to learn! Try different things, practice, and see what works.
Such a beautiful and to the point reading. Something I truly needed to know to be honest. Thank you so very much, I appreciate this so much.
You're very welcome!

Biblomancy- how are things going to work out with him? Thanks.
This is too funny. Not for you, I’m afraid, just in how the reading turned out. See, I choose books with my eyes closed. I pulled “An Abundance of Katherines” by John Green (I was a huge fan in my early teens), and this book actually involves determining a “formula” for the outcome of any romantic relationship. How long it lasts and who dumps who. Eyes close again, I flipped pages and I landed on a graph, a downturned parabola, with the caption “As you can see, the relationship doesn’t last too long, and the girl ends up dumping the boy (a situation Colin is quite familiar with).”
So, that is by far the most straightforward answer you will like, ever get from divination. If it makes you feel better, part of the point of the book was to not obsess over the outcome of relationships and to simply enjoy people. People are complex, and things aren’t as simple as a graph. However, if this book is correct, it sounds like maybe this isn’t the right guy for you.

What do I need to learn to improve myself?
“My father gathered all the girls into the courtyard. “Why are you afraid?” He asked. “Did you do anything against Islam? Did you do anything immoral? No, you just splashed water and took pictures, so don’t be scared. This is the propaganda of the followers of Mullah Fazlullah. Down with them! You have the right to enjoy greenery and waterfalls and landscape just as boys do.”- I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
You need to learn to enjoy yourself and make choices for you, not for others. Do not fear the backlash of those in authority if you’ve done nothing to deserve it. They cannot shame you if you own your actions. You are worthy of everything you desire: go get it! Don’t limit yourself out of fear.
Biblio ask ~ Should I continue Down this path
This was an extremely unusual read, but possibly more enlightening because of it. I did not land on a passage but rather a blank page at the very middle of the book, Looking For Alaska, which divides the book between “before” and “after” significant events. The page opposite the blank page is grey and simply says “after”.
Whether or not you should continue on your path is a matter of personal choice. The book simply warns that continuing will significantly alter the way your life goes. In the book, not to spoil anything, but it’s not a happy ending. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad omen, but I do think this reading asks you to carefully and honestly examine your choices. Why are you choosing this path? Is it for the right reasons?
Bibliomancy :: How do I forgive him
“Ma opened the screen door and went in. A tiny man stood behind the counter. He was completely bald, and his head was blue-white. Large, brown eyed in such a high arch that his fave seemed surprised and a little frightened” -The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
I had to read beyond this passage for better context, but essentially this man, a store clerk, sells Ma overpriced food when she and her family are already starving and underpaid. Ma is angry at him for overcharging, but he is just an employee trying to keep his job. He doesn’t set the prices.
People are not governed by the whims of upper management in their day to day lives, and so they are far more accountable for their actions than this clerk is. If someone has wronged you, you have a right to be angry. But this passage indicates that there may have been other factors at play: if he abused you, he may have been abused. Perhaps illness or pressures in his own life pushed him towards making choices that were unfair to you. Perhaps his actions were a product of his environment: certain behaviors were portrayed to him growing up as acceptable, or he simply was never taught that what he did was wrong.
None of this excuses him. Absolutely none of it. But if you’re looking to forgive him, this passage points you to try to empathize with him. To realize that sometimes there are greater evils at play than the individual wrongs done to you. Maybe it is time to turn your anger at him towards anger at a system, and from there into an effort to change things. After all, Ma’s problem isn’t a stingy store clerk, it’s an economic crisis that punishes the working class. That’s where her real anger is due.
Bibliomancy- How do I realise my dreams?
“My cousin quickly gave us his music cassettes to hide in our purses. The Taliban were dressed in black and carried Kalashnikovs. They told us, “Sisters, you are bringing shame. You must wear burqas.”- I Am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai.
Your dreams are big, and they are at least in part hindered by outside influences. This could be specific people in your life, or societal pressures. This passage could indicate the problem is sexism or prejudice, as is a key theme in this autobiography. However, what this passage also reveals is that what others may consider to be a shame or a weakness is actually a strength. Hide your cassettes in your purse, so to speak. Exploit your “weaknesses” and use them to your advantage: those who oppose you will never see this tactic coming and you will reap the spoils of success and enjoy the feeling of self acceptance.
Also worth mentioning: when I pulled your book my bible went flying off the shelf. Interpret that as you will.
