circumstance recently knocked my internet out for the better part of a week, in the downtime i did manage to create One Whole Art, the first thing I’ve drawn for myself sinnnccee… november? Cat name of Worm. From my pixel cats #mypixelcats

I don’t have a good well written description for its character to copy paste rn (and it’s intentionally still maleable so there’s room to work in new lore or ideas as new cats shape the direction of my little cat village), but I put down some stream of consciousness vibes on its toyhouse page.

OOC I was always pretty sure it would be one of the first cats I Ascended, felt right for the character idea I was envisioning based on the songs that inspired me. I did not at the time realize that cats Ascending prematurely would be a whole Thing included in on-site mechanics and lore. Not-cats can reach their Ascended life state naturally when their in-game age is 7 years or more, but they can also ascend in a sudden burst at any age when they feel trapped in a dire situation that requires a miracle. So Worm did ascend young through irregular circumstances (and xe’s only 3 on site right now, I think xe was still 2 when I started working toward ascension)

Would you be okay with people taking inspiration from the way you draw curators (specifically their anatomy)? I really love your designs for the masters - I honestly can't picture them any other way.

Hi anon, sorry for the wait! Your ask happened to find me while my internet was broken, and I made a few attempts at answering via phone data that got eaten by the tumblr void. and then i forgorrrrr

But yeah by all means go ahead!!! I’m excited that my curator style is an inspiration to you. And it is itself very derived from the real anatomy of vampire bats!! being one of two extant bat families that re-evolved efficient terrestrial locomotion, vamps can walk and run and leap and bound and launch into flight from a standing position, while most bats can’t hold their body above their legs and are close crawlers when grounded and need to climb to higher elevation before they can fly. So I recommend pulling up some vampire bat photos as anatomical ref and posing inspiration for wing-walking curators :]! also because they are very cute and fun to look at

Otherwise, other specific little details were inspired by a curator lore compilation doc I stumbled across at some point? I don’t know if I have it saved, but you might be able to find it in a search here on tumblr. I don’t care too much about following every little specific text detail of how curators have been described in the games, but I do think it’s fun to know and take some inspiration from

Experimented with rendering feathers while sticking to hard edged shapes, trying to retain clarity for ttrpg icon scale. I’m still pretty content with the result

oh i believe we are SO getting somewhere. at long last

eye placement is not final i just wanted to visualize how these beads would work and i think Yeah they are a good fit. they’re like a cornflower colour with chatoyant properties (that’s like the tiger’s eye sheen that warps as your perspective moves. cat’s eye effect). the chatoyancy is more visible on the sides and it’d be more easy to attach ‘em that way without further supplies needed, but they look more Right when facing outward like this so i’ll need to play around with some glue for that. I haven’t used glue anywhere else, it’s all just wrapping wire around wire

gonna be a while til i do that though. i wanna re-do his first four sets of legs, i made them very early on without fully knowing how it’d all turn out and i’d like them to be longer and more flexible. and i’m not doing that til i finish out the body i think. leg segments are gonna extend a little bit further but the next spine extension is gonna be purple and lead into the tail. i Wanted his body to be comparatively wider, but as it turns out, filling in these segments between legs takes One Whole Pipecleaner which is a good number so i’m sticking with it

currently here’s what i’m trying for the ‘spine’ to support the top of what will be essentially a hollow cylinder filling out the body. it is not currently long enough to be sure how good it retains flex as-is or what using it as a support for vertically wrapping pipecleaners will look like.. But it currently has multidirectional flex And uses up scrap that would otherwise be too short to use anywhere

my energy over all is dead and killed rn and i’m spending any remnant brainpower on trying to solve the current project, but i’m really excited i Just got the goldyellow ones and they’re EXCELLENT. so hard to find a hue like this, i was a little worried they’d end up being basically regular neon yellow pipecleaners, since the red ones i got diverged so heavily from their product photos. but no these are perfect. if anyone else is looking for yellow golds these were from walmart’s shitty marketplace thing, labelled as being from ‘Blaxill’, it was alongside some other rare yellow hues. the pale grey comes from packs sold in store, from ‘Hello Hobby’, there’s also a good red in that pack that’s less saturated than the red you get in most, it’s a pretty decent colour set.

can’t wait to turn these into a mobius strip. except i can and will have to wait due to the Curses and also i should first scavenge through my grandma’s beads and see what i can find for eyes and what that’d set my scale at. and I’ve got Ideas for how to construct the base but my brain tells my i first gotta figure out a plan i’m content w for my funny not-so-little dreameater before i give myself another thing to problemsolve

slowly progress . slowly progress. also new enclosure for Projects bc my other pipecleaner bin is entirely full of pipecleaners. got me some reds in prep for the next. but i think i’ve still got quite a while before i’m finished. still wracking my brain on how i’m gonna round out the body with a cylindrical shape while retaining flex

the problem is 1: time investment if it doesn’t work out the way i need and 2: wasted pipecleaners cut too small to reuse if it doesn’t work out the way i need. can’t really do a small scale test i just gotta go for whatever i come up with and commit

im making so many little fuzzy wire rings. too many. i stabbed my thumb and my fingers are raw and im a little bit very persistently ill but it’s all worth it. im looking upon my work and it’s like the best of wooden snakes and fuzzy slap bracelets and so so so good to hold and i persist off of the joy i will feel when i am done and i think 10 years will be added to my lifespan. touys and whimsy rn

im almost out of pipecleaners again though.. couldn’t get any pink in bulk without going through like etsy or something and that’d cost more than i was willing to commit on a whim (i’ve learned my lesson now that is also isnt cost effective %{>{> need to order online anyway to go beyond basic colours). the only pink at all i could find in nearby stores is a 6 colour pack of 100 pieces and there’s only like 17 pink per. I think I’m on pack #6? #7? and cleared out the stock in store so i guess i need to wait for a restock >€{>}€} and im committed to this specific shade of pink with all the work i’ve done. wish me luck

process on trying to build out some structure that retains flexibility? settled on something of a chain. my fingers huuuuuurt. also gonna be a third ‘chain’ as a single top ‘spine’ i think bc i need that upper support line but i still want maximum flex. not altogether sure how i’m gonna fill in the gaps. like theoretically it’s just wrapping pipe cleaner vertically to make a big hollow tube but i gotta figure out my attachment points and how much it might restrict movement. I conceptually know how wooden snake toys work and that’s the design philosophy i’m building upon but i also want up/down flex and not just side/side. so far i feel pretty good about this method and i have Committed to it but there’s still a lot of mental physics simulations i’m doing at each step

below: previous idea i had to try but didn’t work. i kinda realized it wouldn’t bc pipecleaners don’t Stretch & this would essentially be two concentric circles regardless of bending direction and that would necessitate the outer line being longer. which doesn’t work with fixed length pipecleaners but i was hoping maybe points of movement would be enough to make it work

we’re up to 29 pairs of limbs also and i’m still adding more. at the point where they get shorter though and transitioning into the tail. also still trying to figure out where i get a small amount of material that’s not a Bad Texture to make his cloak. like i don’t have scrap fabric and i don’t wanna waste a whole thrifted shirt for a small bit of material. maybe i can make do with the right socks ? with like a small knit ? also the last time i have sewn anything was doing a very simple seam repair on the old Shadow plush. the last time before that was making very simple sock plushie animals (warrior cats i think .??) as a kid. it can’t be that hard, right
