A long-time American tradition, many people watch the Times Square Ball lower on New Yearâs Eve, whether in-person in New York City, or on their televisions in the comfort of their own home.
However this year, one New York man has decided to celebrate the coming of the new year in his own way: by dangling from the Times Square Ball by his penis.Â
Thomas T. T. Ingein, 33, is a New York City-native that has based a life-long career in dangling from dangerous heights by his genitals. His previous stunts include hanging from numerous other objects, ranging from the tip of the Washington Monument, to the landing gear of an airborne biplane, to even the exterior of the International Space Station, all of which are currently documented on his YouTube channel.Â
Ingeinâs latest stunt, hanging from the Times Square Ball on New Yearâs Eve, drew nearly 50 million views on YouTube within a couple of hours. As of writing, the original video is now claimed by NBC for copyright infringement.Â
In the video, one of Ingeinâs friends is filming the stunt from ground level as he, and many onlookers, watched in both shock and mild amusement.Â
After half an hour past the drop of the ball, NYPD made their way to the roof of the One Times Square building and subsequently arrested Ingein.
âI couldnât believe anyone would climb the Times Square Ball, let alone hang from it by his [expletive],â said Jonesy Na, who watched Ingein live in Thomas Square. âWhile it was entertaining, I wonder why no one caught him inside the building in the first place.â
According to the security staff at One Times Square, the building on which the Ball is located, they had encountered Ingein in their lobby, but did not deny him entry. Upon checking in with security, Ingein provided official documentation allowing him into the building, specifically maintenance orders on upper floors and the roof. As to who granted Ingein said documents is currently under investigation.
When asked whether he would do it again, Ingein replied with a resounding âyes.â
âTo me, living my quiet life as a dentist in Colorado just wasnât cutting it,â said Ingein. âAs much as $100K a year is, it just didnât compare to the personal thrill I get from dangling. The fame is just an added bonus.âÂ
Ingein is currently being charged with public indecency and, pending investigation, trespassing. Bail is set at $10,000.
