one of the best things about teaching middle school is that they’re young enough to see me as an authority figure despite the fact that i’m pretty young for a teacher but they’re old enough to understand and laugh at the concept of phases, and what i’m really getting at here is that i lost control of my classroom for a couple of minutes today because i told them that i had an emo phase when i was their age

Being around toddlers keeps you sharp like nothing else like I've been dedicated to being an artist and illustrator for over 20 years, I've been accepted into some really really good art schools, both here and abroad, and today a 5 year old asked me to draw Mickey mouse for him and I did and he immediately looked at it and was like "this is not good and Mickey mouse doesn't look like this."

which is one of the best critiques I have ever recieved. Like thats straightforward. Concise. To the point . Art schools should employ preschoolers to run their critique sessions and this is NOT a joke

Today I was chastised by my handyman’s four year old for having ‘linter’ ‘all over the floor’ (mostly bits of styrofoam and paper from opening packages, along with a few bottle caps the cat ran off with and pushed under furniture before I could get them)

I forget to vacuum for one week and I get called out by a toddler who’s half my height, thinks my name is ‘customer’, and can’t even say “litter” properly, and let me tell you I have never been so ashamed for not being on top of my housework in my life.

💖 If you don’t have someone’s disease and aren’t a licensed doctor or specialist, don’t tell us what worked for you friend/sibling/cousin that had the same disorder or what we should be doing, please. 💖

We know our bodies better than anyone because we live with it everyday. Instead of saying those things, try these:

-“I can’t imagine what that’s like. You’re so fucking strong, man.”

-“It amazes me the strength that you have.”

-“I hope it’ll all make sense sooner or later about why you have this.”

-“I’ll do more research on this so I’ll be able to help you more and understand it better.”

Ableism and ableist language is something that you can change with practice, knowledge, and unlearning the idea that all of us with illnesses are weak or unhappy.
