She winced at the headlights when they cane into view. What time was it? Were people already awake? She shielded herself from the light, until the truck turned.
"Tom?" She responded, recognizing the voice. "Yeah, I'm... alright." She thought about the 40 minutes she still had to walk. And her bare feet. Maybe he wouldn't ask questions.
"Actually, you think you can take me to the shop?" She walked slowly toward his truck.
He parked the car, and gets out. She seemed to be in her right mind, but why out so late? What was going on? Hopefully she wasn't being chased by or drawn to anything. The island didn't need more of that (it could spit out whatever it wanted, but he didn't think that, he didn't think about how wrong everything here was) going around.
Tom decided to not question it.
"Sure." He walked around to the passenger door and opened it, in case she needed it. One look at her bare feet told him she probably wasn't in a state to give a truthful answer. "No doctor? Just home?"
Any time you question Darren why he does anything please remember most vampires are illiterate adrenaline junkies in their 20s and he's been 13 for 5 years

Marni took stock of her surroundings. She was at the treeline again. Standing in wet grass. Next came making sure she didn't have any new cuts or bruises. Her pajamas were intact, just dirty. She had scraped the side of her foot on... something, at some point. It stung, but it wasn't bleeding.
She needed to start wearing shoes to bed.
With a heavy sigh, she turned towards the gravel road that lead back to town. She'd woken up here before. It was about an hour and a half walk home. She tried to remember what the night before was like. If she could figure out what triggered this...
The only thing she'd figured out so far was the moon phase. A waxing gibbous.
It was the only thing the nights this happened had in common.
Tom hadn't been able to sleep, so he did what he usually did (after triple-checking that Evan was in bed and actually asleep) and went for a drive. He would go over budgeting or the itinerary for the week, rehearsed meeting lectures and plans, and sometimes talked to Emily about what was happening. Sometimes he'd play the radio, but usually just let the silence carry whatever he needed. For such a small town, it wasn't really quiet unless he made a quiet spot out for himself.

"Fuck!" He swerved the steering wheel a little, remembering the last time he'd stopped for a lone woman on the road. This one's hair was darker, though, and she looked pretty uninjured. Wait.
The Mayor rolled down his car window and stuck his head out to call, "Marni? Are you okay?"

"I get tired of pretending." She starts off, a sigh escaping her lips as she looks off into the distance through the window nearby. Sometimes, she wonders how long she is going to bear living for all of eternity. She has five centuries under her belt. She does not know how the other vampire beside her has dealt with living a long as he has. She has always struggled with it. Being stuck as a teenager, never growing past six teen physically while her mind ages instead. The age that she was turned affects everything as a vampire, from her emotional control to her thirst for blood. She is also treated differently by other vampires, even if she is older than them in vampire years.
"Sometimes, I feel as though it is too much. Everything is too much." She tries not to say things like this around her father. Not that he finds her weak for saying these things. It's that it would be a cause of concern for him and he has already been increasingly overbearing since she almost died at the hands of Adam Barrett. Not that she doesn't appreciate it. She loves it, actually. It is better than being neglected and ignored.
The older vampire listens, and doesn’t argue. He can’t, not really. Being stuck at the age he is, he understands even if most of his youthful attributes are gone. He is still stopped and asked why he is out so late. The starvation of his humanity means he is always hungry despite not needing to drink blood so often as others. Sometimes his emotional imbalance clouds his rulings as Sherriff, and things slip through the cracks causing… He doesn’t think about this. He focuses on Abigail.
“There is a gnawing hole in your person. Everything seeps in through it, and it’s more acutely felt because it was not allowed to be filled with age.” Godric watches the other vampire to see if he was correct and it’s how it feels for her as well, or if he’s about to be sworn at and scolded. Either way, he’ll listen. She deserves to be heard. “Pretending is exhausting. Most of the time, I want to be screaming.”
"OF COURSE IT MATTERS, YOU CUNT!" pain shoots up his hand whenever his punch lands. he may have busted a knuckle or two, but he didn't care. ( adrenaline is his best friend right now. ) he doesn't want to focus too much on the face that it's wearing. ( it's not actually naim. it's not actually naim. ) it's repeated in his head like a mantra, teeth clenched together.
that Thing reaches out, fingers gentle and tears mixing with his bloodied features. ( it broke his heart. ) he pulls at the bat and ryan shoved it as hard as he can, hoping to jam it into it's stomach. he's quick to blink away his own tears as he shifts on his feet to throw another punch in it's direction.
"STOP PRETENDING YOU KNOW HOW TO FEEL!"
The bat lands firmly at Naim’s sternum, and the force behind Ryan’s blow cracks something within it. Ow. It stumbles back and lets go, hands going to the shifting feeling that accompanies the pain. Its face contorts into confusion, and the tears unceremoniously stop.
“I felt that.” That isn’t what the boy means, but it truly isn’t in the mood to qualify what is and isn’t feeling. It’s more concerned with what is and isn’t dead.
The second punch lands, and gives it the chance to spit blood out at Ryan. Naim’s hand grabs a fistful of hair by the roots and pulls hard enough to tear some out, and it hisses, “It’s me. No matter what, it will always be me.” And then, it takes its turn to punch at the boy.
