saltwater rain.
Your childhood was made of staring at the fissured sky and waiting for the petrichor to wash the saline-streaked air that always enshrouded you. You found granules of salt clinging to your skin like an extra layer as you sat on the cold surface of the ship, remembering the shouting match that your parents held the moment you returned home drenched in sea water.
Your father was born to contain oceans within him, and your mother was always the shore’s daughter.
You, something solid in the middle, losing yourself in the limbo at the absence of belongingness. But you knew that you always belonged in the crevice of the attic, where your father had buried his old dreams, transferring those into your veins without his consent. You smudged your fingers with ink from the smeared prints, coveting something that was far too young for a girl your age. You would run to your mother when the nightfall beckoned, hoping for an early bedtime story. At the crook of the evening, you were always delighted by the rivulets of tales that streamed from her mouth. You swam to the land far away; away from the shelter that was barely enough to protect you from the storm.
upturned ocean.
Here’s to tracing the notches of your spine and counting them until the night turns pitch black.
You used to be a floral ribcage, branches twined with the sprigs of innocence, blooming and fissuring the bones, pulverizing them and turning you gentle. Words in your mouth weighted like penance. Dust on your fingertips felt like memories. There would be a smile to replace your lips, and rapture to fist your beating heart. Pulsating, breathing. Your days dreamed of sleeping awake and your nights of eternal sun.
My body has always been a question mark, never quite knowing what it means to be alive.

A breeze ruffled the neat hedges of Privet Drive, which lay silent and tidy under the inky sky, the very last place you would expect astonishing things to happen. Harry Potter rolled over inside his blankets without waking up. One small hand closed on the letter beside him and he slept on, not knowing he was special, not knowing he was famous, not knowing he would be woken in a few hours’ time by Mrs. Dursley’s scream as she opened the front door to put out the milk bottles, nor that he would spend the next few weeks being prodded and pinched by his cousin Dudley…He couldn’t know that at this very moment, people meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices: "To Harry Potter - the boy who lived!”
