Raise a Dragon Baby, Date a Dragon Daddy

The tutorial in the Demo features Foxina, who you can stat-raise into 6 different types of fox humanoid kid!

The actual raising gameplay is a little trolly, where you have to game the system in order to see the different types (by loading on 4 of the same type of class and 2 playtimes) -- but hey! It is a *game* after all!

The final game will have 12 different variations of the cutest baby dragon you ever did see, from Rai (half of Sudachys). And probably 12 humanoids that the dragons can transform into as a final state before they go off to boarding school.

Did I mention I met Sudachys in person, at a convention?!

They spoiled me with an art trade. Rai gave me a Bound By Fate themed Coaster that they actually had manufactured, and Su gave me a giant portrait of Michael from Sweet Valentine Chocolatier, that they actually had printed. 😭😭😭💖💖💖

I am officially the most spoiled cat to ever walk upright on 2 legs.

My half of the trade was shittily printed out in those instant photo stickers... 😭 I was very disorganized with prepping Dearest Darling Dragon for Otome Jam, and my husband came home from his trip early, so I didn't have time to get them properly printed. 😭

Next time, I will definitely have my revenge. 💪💪💪

PixeledBean is doing the humanoid sprites this time, and everyone is coming out SO GORGEOUS, but very Pokemon inspired (at my request, hehe).

Humanoid sprites implies there will be non-humanoid sprites....

Out of Hiatus? Yup.

So those of you know know me (AlwaysJmB), know I've been busy in content creation and not very public about Tuff Mallow game development. I'm still alive, and not at all giving up on game dev- but I've been struggling to make my way back to sharing this journey via social media.

Hooboy, it's not easy. As a dev, there are expectations gamers/potential consumers have for communication about games in development, and generally studio direction. But what happens when the "studio" is a solo developer?

Speaking with some of my fellow solo developers that began our journey about the same time- before the pandemic- we all set out to make longer visual novels. Epic sprawls that were the kinds of games we took great interest in. For some of us, we made the hurdle to release in a quick and timely fashion. It wasn't easy for them, but they made that transition from a game in development to a released IP. I look up to those peers and remain proud of their accomplishments. But for quite a few of us, the struggle to complete the project and release it has been the greatest challenge we have faced in the greater part of this last decade.

You'd be surprised to know I'm only one of many of my peers doggedly trudging towards the finish line with only our own motivation to spur us on, even though our IPs have been in development long enough to lose that initial electric hype that sparked our journey in the beginning.

Honestly, for me, it feels good to know I'm not alone in this.

Just knowing that there are other devs like me, people I consider friends, that didn't give up on our works, even as the world became a really hard place to create in... I find it inspiring. WE GOT THIS!

But anyway, I just want to let you know I'm back and trying to figure out an update schedule so I can share all the things that have been happening with Tuff Mallow and most recently with The Closet Door. I'm very proud of the way this game is shaping up, and I'll be excited to share more about it in the coming weeks! So keep a lookout because we are so back!

The Cooking Continues 🍳

We are already cooking again, believe it or not...! 💪🍳😻

This one is a stat-raiser Otome where you raise your own Baby Dragon and date a hot Dragon Daddy! 🐉🥚🐣

Of course, shenanigans ensue... you didn't think we'd you let get a sexy tax daddy that easily, did you...?! 👓

The whole game idea originated from Nick and Beanz's idea for a "Tax Daddy" who scolds you and does your taxes, for the O2A2 Jam.

Unfortunately, none of us have any expertise in doing taxes.

Wanting to do a stat raiser, I asked if we could make tax daddy a REAL daddy by giving him an egg. 😆💀😆 Which you, as the player, raise, while getting closer to tax daddy...... (there is no mpreg, alas, the egg canonically appears in a flash of light thanks to ✨️magic✨️)

We ended up giving him a much friendlier image than the initial designs... I do think he meshes with our cutesy overall game design better this way. Though maybe slightly intimidating Tax Daddy needs to make a comeback in some scenes... 🥵 (cough dommy daddy, anyone?)

Sesame (Arghbulous) is helping with a ton of the worldbuilding and writing! We are super excited to share this adorable and silly story with you. It was supposed to be a smaller game, but of course it ended up spiraling a little bigger...

We are hoping to release it as our first commercial game, though the Demo will of course be free.

If you've read to this point and you've talked to be before, I'm not opposed to giving out a key, when we finally finish and release the game 😆 though it really helps on Steam if you purchase the game yourself and leave a review. Reviews from game keys are actually not counted towards a developer's total reviews, so anytime you buy a Steam native game and leave a review, you're doing a great service to indie devs like us.
