How the hypertext is changing our relation with the information

How we understand: Faceted Metadata
An introduction to an alternative representation of images based on enabling users to navigate along conceptual dimensions that describe the images. The interface makes use of hierarchical faceted metadata and dynamically generated query previews. A usability study, in which 32 art history students explored a collection of 35,000 fine arts images, compares this approach to a standard image search interface. A category-based approach is a successful way to provide access to image collections.
Thus image access interface allows users to navigate a large collection using hierarchical faceted metadata in a flexible manner. Despite the fact that the interface was often an order of magnitude slower than a standard baseline, it was strongly preferred by most study participants. These results indicate that a category-based approach is a successful way to provide access to image collections.
These different examples of hypertext representation gives us an impression of the importance of the context when representing different types and kind of information. It is proven on these texts that the nature of the information itself will fit different types of interaction given the user experience and the user interaction with the information. Depending on the purpose of the study one or another way of representing the information could be more useful, thus for images the study of the semantic description provided a better brewing method, compared to the memex example that gives the reader a different way of reading and interact with the text. These examples should be considered when defining the affordance of the information system we create, as we want to improve the user experience by making its interaction with the computer simpler and easier.
