I can’t get over how intimate this scene is. The first time we see Sam down here, he is by himself, trying to fix everything by himself, and he can’t and he is frustrated. And then, at the end of this story, Bucky shows up. Bucky enters this very private space that’s special and personal to Sam, and then supports him wordlessly. Like, these men are constantly bitching at each other and attempting to one-up the other—and here is Sam being immensely vulnerable. He needs help with this part. He lets Bucky help him. I’m always screaming about what’s going on with Sam internally, and the boat represents so much of his heart as this physical object and space. Letting Bucky into that space is so literally and metaphorically intimate.

Because when they’re on the dock fixing that water pump? The boat-part that was Sarah’s job? Do you see how DIFFERENT they act when they’re not in private? It’s light bickering, but it’s so different from how they’re careful with each other when they’re by themselves holy shit oh my god i’m
