victor shakes his head, tugging the frayed edges harder. the adhesive gave in and the wrap pulled off with ease, revealing three jagged slashes going down his forearm.
“ah, fuck,” he murmurs, shoving the bloody wrap into his pockets. “that thing could come back for him. or something else could... i'm getting sick of burying kids all night." he uncomfortably shifts, his hand attempting to cover the wound.
it was obvious vic had been on edge as of late. his shifty eyes and dark purple eye bags gave it away. and the fact that he basically prohibited his campers from even going out of the camp's bounds. he wouldn't even step out into the rain anymore.
belch looked over his friend , swallowing as he pocketed the dirtied bandage . slashes at victor's arm kept his attention . ' that shit's gonna get infected man ... ' he mutters , it'd been gag worthy enough if belch hadn't been exposed to worse over the course of the last few weeks .
' you know , it think it's kind of just ... toyin with us . you gonna tell me it can rip someone's head off and a rusty locks gonna hold it back ..? i think if it wanted to take him , he woulda . '
it was likely the smartest thing he'd said all summer .
victor sends a glare belch’s way, scowling despite his friend’s valid concern. “i got it covered, belch… butterfly councilor has been wrapping it for me.” he shifts again, his hand clutching the wound firmly. “supplies are running low.” morale was low too. it was a feeling in the air, the flowery nature of summer camp had vanished overnight. excitement and rampant teenage hormones were set on pause. the councilor’s were on edge as the good ol’ “they ran away” excuse wasn’t cutting it anymore. it worked for the first kid, but four kids don’t just run away from camp.
he could still remember that night, even if he was high off his ass. burying a faceless head wasn’t something he could forget. “how many until it’s satisfied?” vic shakes his head, his locks falling into his eyes. his roots were grown in which was rare—he was always so keen on keeping the peeks of mousy hues at rest.
there is a rumour going around that you can't roller blade, someone said they saw you fall on your butt.

"I can feel you looking at me, Vic." Chloe chuckled and blushed softly. "If you are gonna stare why don't you come over and help me put some sunscreen on so I don't get burned."
Chloe glanced up and over at him. Her cheeks bright red. The girl looked at him and chuckled once again.
Chloe sighed again. "Whatever." She groaned and stared over at Vic and Belch. The girl chewed on her lip and continued to read her back. "Actually just stand there. You are blocking the sun so that it can't burn me."
Once again, the girl flipped over so now her back was on the pool chair. "Why do you guys hate the Toziers so much? What did we ever do to you? Especially me?" She blinked.
victor flips the page again, utterly devoid of any sense of amusement. “do we need a reason?” he furrows his eyebrows. in his mind it seemed so simple. if henry said they had to bully some kids, then they did. especially the geeks, and toziers were prime examples. “you’re not special. there’s no reason behind it. you’re just losers.”
"Well you are all assholes then." She muttered and went back to reading her book. "I can't believe I ever had a crush on you." Chloe blinked and sighed.
The girl chewed on her lip and glanced over at him. She had to move her body to see past Pat.
there was surprised silence as victor looks up from his magazine. “you had a crush on me?” he chuckles, though it sounded more like scoffing. “tough luck. i just thought you were being a whore when you’d flirt with me.” this again gets some laughs out of the guys.
"I mean maybe I am a whore. But yeah I had a crush on you." She sighed. "I work as a stripper so yeah I am a whore. A huge crush. But whatever." She mumbled. "I mean many guys like me." The girl bit her lip.
victor furrows his eyebrows, shaking his head. “i ain’t into whores,” he murmurs. he could vaguely hear patrick mumbling his own approval to chloe, which made him roll his eyes. “man, you are sick in the head.”

Chloe chuckled softly, ignoring the comment that Vic had said, and looked over at Vic and the Patrick that was coming over. She hands him the sunscreen and flips over onto her stomach so he can put sunscreen on her back.
"Vic you should come over sometime. Uh, my brother's have an atari and a Nintendo thing too." She grinned.
“your brothers? you mean four eyes and that little skating geek?” victor rolls his eyes with a scowl at the mere thought of even going near the toziers. “nah, i’m good. i ain’t that desperate to play mario brothers.” he swipes the page again, mildly annoyed as patrick stands over chloe like a hungry dog.
"No, I'm talking about Roman. My older brother. He's actually really cool." She sighed softly. The girl glanced up at Patrick. "Are you just gonna stand there?" She murmured, chewing on her lip.
“you aren’t a good judge of who’s cool and who isn’t.” he sets his magazine aside, staring at hockstetter in mild disgust and disappointment.
he nudges belch’s side. “look at this guy. he’s already jellying his pants.” victor shuts his eyes with a heavy scowl as the guys burst out in uproarious laughter. “whatever…” victor shakes his head as he returns to his magazine.

victor hardly even glances up from the magazine in his hands. “hm?” he mumbled as he absentmindedly flips a page.
naturally the blond had come to the pool dressed in his normal clothing. after all, it was patrick’s idea to come and scope out girls. vic only tagged along because he had nothing better to do.
“ask hockstetter,” victor replies, holding back his own grin. from his left he hears a few chuckles—validation that his joke was a hit.
"Okay fine. Pat can you come put on some sunscreen so I dont get burned?" She murmured and looked over at Patrick, and then back at Vic. "What are you reading?" She called over to Vic.
The girl was obviously a little upset that Vic hadn't done anything and hadn't stopped reading his magazine. She definitely looked hot, she knew she did.
Chloe looked at the book that she had placed on the table near her and picked it back up. She began to read once more.
victor nudges patrick, raising a brow as the tall brunette stands with urgency. “oh, yeah. good move, idiot. hockstetter’s gonna have wet dreams about this for the next year.” he looks up just to see chloe’s offense. it was enough to bring a wicked smile to his face.
he goes back to his magazine, a catalogue of the latest atari releases and nintendo shenanigans.

“… an ape?” victor hesitates, blinking slowly. an ape was something they hadn’t recorded yet. and if they hadn’t seen an ape yet, then he could only imagine all the other monsters they hadn’t come across.
“oh. well, apes aren’t in the americas. i think they’re on other continents so… maybe you saw a huge wolf or something.” victor awkwardly nudged belch for help. consoling people while simultaneously lying wasn’t his forte.
vic was growing increasingly nervous. at this rate, it was starting to seem dangerous to even leave their cabins. they were already down three campers. and it would only be a matter of time before a councilor would fall victim to the atrocities lurking the woods.
the child grumbles to himself , frustration evident . perhaps it was safe to say vic wasn't the first person he told — and it was more than likely he was shot down then too . ' it wasn't a wolf ! ' he spat . ' what wolf runs on two legs ? '
' then it was a bear ? ' belch suggested , a grizzly sounded more appropriate — then again america wasn't known for having large winged creatures that'd attack during storms , or had glowing red bulbus eyes either .
his gaze directs towards vic , before trailing down to his friend's bandaged arm .
' ... it wasn't a bear either . if you heard the sounds it made ... you'd know . ' the child uttered .
“well, it wasn’t an ape either. apes aren’t from here, which you would know if you read the animal books we had in the dining hall. so run along and get reading…” victor pushed himself off the ground, his cheeks red from being flustered with fear.
he knew what this child was feeling. it was horrible to feel so small and scared, like you should have died but you were lucky enough to survive. but at what cost? maybe they wouldn’t survive the next time.
victor looks at belch, hoping his friend wouldn’t catch on. the bothered blond clears his throat as he sheepishly tugs at the frayed bandage. “it’s your camper, belch. you decide,” he mumbles, like an embarrassed child.
the child stared at vic , it was likely the first time either bully had ever felt so ... scrutinized by someone smaller than either of them . at least that's what belch hoped ; not wanting to feel alone , like he'd been judged and bothered because of it .
and while the kid walked off to mope under another tree somewhere else .
' decide what — ? who knows what the kid saw ... ' belch mutters , uncomfortably shifting in place an he'd anxiously picked at the skin at his nail beds . ' he got away like we , didn't he ? '
victor shakes his head, tugging the frayed edges harder. the adhesive gave in and the wrap pulled off with ease, revealing three jagged slashes going down his forearm.

so like , purple shampoo would do you wonders , you know .
“would it?” victor awkwardly glances away. having a girl talk to him—even if they have known each other since childhood—was unusual to him. and he knew his friends wouldn’t take it easy on him with the teasing if they saw them. “… nah, that’s gay.” he mumbles, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.
' it's not gay ... ' the cheerleader mutters , she invites herself to prop up on her tip toes — allowing herself to inspect the roots of his hair . ( she had the right as a natural blonde , you know . )
' besides , it's better than looking like a highlighter . when'd you do it last ? '
victor, much to his own dismay, dips his head down for her without even thinking about it. “damnit” he murmurs to himself, grumbling at his own actions. “you’re so damn nosy… but i did it last month.”
he half-assed swatted her hand away. “why? …are my roots growing back in?” victor curiously touches his hair, which was fried, dyed, and dried to oblivion.
marilyn did her best to withhold the knowing smile after he'd caught himself complying . unfortunately her lips did curve , ever so slightly . ' well duh , if you want to fool everyone into thinking you're actually blonde ... ' the cheerleader trails off .
' they aren't bad ... but if you're going to bleach it you should at least be taking care of it . ' a tilt of her head , anticipating another comment about it being gay . ' unless you like the idea of balding in ten years . '
he rolls his eyes as he leans back against his locker. “actually blond? nah, i’m tryna look frosted like billy idol.” he murmurs sarcastically. his nimble fingers run through his hair, which felt similar to hay.
“bald!?” his eyes widen at the thought of already balding. well he did lose a lot of hair already… but balding was a whole other nightmare. “hell no, how do i stop that?”
' well sure , you're literally soaking your hair in chemicals . ' marilyn replies , playing with a lock of her own hair . her other arm wrapped around herself .
' hair masks are good — i have this stuff at home and it's made out of avacados . i'll bring it , it's the best . ' marilyn had always been a bit of a chatter box ; seldom did it matter who or when . she caught herself before going off on a tangent . ' anyways if you don't want to go bald , you should start taking care of it sooner than later , unless you wanna look like a washed up billy idol instead . ' a small snicker leaves her lips .
a hair mask? what did marilyn take him for? victor scowls slightly—not that he would notice, it was just second nature. “that sounds gay… but thanks. maybe it will help," he said, carefully moving his bangs out of his face.
vic was unsure, but it was worth giving it a shot. he was already on thin ice with belch who was sick and tired of finding bleached strands of hair in the backseat of amy.
“…what?” he furrowed his brows, his fist clenching. he wasn’t sure what was worse; the fact that her burn was good, or that he didn’t have a comeback. “don’t you have somebody else to bother?” victor turns his head away, scoffing in frustration.
Vic, sometimes I hear weird ass noises from my cabin, is that happening with you to?
-Alex
“… Nope. But stay in your cabin anyway. There’s no reason to go outside.”
there was an awkward silence as victor stood up there beside belch, staring down at the kid with an annoyed frown. “hey. you alright? … don’t answer that. i already know you feel like shit.” with a grunt he sits beside the kid. “so uh, you think you saw something?” vic glances up to belch, a slight look of worry in his eyes. “what did it look like, kid?”
part of victor didn’t want to know. summer camp was supposed to be fun. it was supposed to be easy. he was fucking terrified—they all were—but there wasn’t any solace with the other male councilors. much less belch.
belch studies his friend , hands shoved into the pockets of roughed up denim . he felt shitty , partially because now he had to idly stand on his own — looking like a complete dick for not asking the kid himself , but also because it seemed as if this kid would end up being a target for whatever it was that was out there .
' i don't know . it was big , real big , it kind of looked like some kind of ape ... it snarled and bore it's teeth before it charged me . ' his voice was muffled due to his head burrowing back into folded arms . like he'd been ashamed of being afraid in front of them .
' i got away , i don't know how because that thing should have been faster than me . it felt like whatever it was was taunting me . '
belch raises a brow at his admission — it sounded nothing like the aerial creatures he and vic had seen . or the mangled deer like creatures the girls saw . and ignoring entirely the aquatic entity that killed the first kid . he swallows , great .
“… an ape?” victor hesitates, blinking slowly. an ape was something they hadn’t recorded yet. and if they hadn’t seen an ape yet, then he could only imagine all the other monsters they hadn’t come across.
