I have SOME complaints for 9x18

I don't even want to talk about this finale episode bro (I lied... I'm going to... ALOT)

So why did they save all 70 plotpoints for the last 3 minutes? I feel like the ideas they shoved in there would've been great overarching plotlines: Athena becoming a detective, Buck adopting Theo, Mayravi + May becoming a nurse, the conclusion of the migrants story (WHY DID IT HAPPEN OFF SCREEN), Nash's birthday party (at the Wilson's house for some reason?) Everything felt so rushed maybe they just introduced too many concepts too close to the end?

I can't think about the diabolical time jump they're gonna start the next season with.

Also I was so hyped in the Eddie hospital scene, like he was okay (he had me stressing), Buck had obviously been staying with him (still in uniform from before, only one there), then more Diaz's show up (I love Chris content, I love Pepa content), Chris and Eddie are doing good and Pepa talks to Buck about their family! I thought I was getting a win...

BUT THEN Pepa said 'try to keep those two apart and you'll lose' and Buck just said 'yeah...' ??? it's very reminiscent of 'If you make this a competition between you and Chris you're gonna lose every time.' I just feel like the show is trying it's hardest to make us put Buck and them at odds especially in the scene with Harry towards the end where they see everyone else with their kids BUT we know that in scenes like these usually Buck is paired with them so why now are they working so hard to compare and separate Buck from Eddie and Chris?

Also I don't hate the Theo plotline it can definitely be good and the character seems cute but I just think it's SO rushed that I'm worried about it

In other news I love the Harry and Buck moments in the hospital, very much a reminder of Buck's development from Bobby's mess of a proby to an older brother and mentor like character for Harry

I was gonna joke about the ridiculousness of the mafia plotline of the season and then I remembered we started this season in a literal spaceship and this doesn't compete with the bullshit we've seen #ItCouldHaveBeenABeenado

Maddie content 🥰

I was honestly shocked they haven't had Maddie present for more of what's going on with Buck and Theo? I get that she had her own thing going on and I respect that. She doesn't need to revolve around him, I just feel like there were lot's of opportunities for Buck to at least bring her up. Especially when talking about his childhood, genetics, and who raised him?

BUT we did get Buck just saying "uhhhh" when they asked to talk to his emotionally unavailable mother who's neglect caused the behaviors they were worried about in their son (Which I thought was awesome)

Also I might be over thinking this but I feel really weird about the way the show is treating the concept of non-biological parents it kinda comes off as dismissive or even invalidating? Idk, does anybody else have thoughts on this?

Okay I know Buck was being very childish and passive aggressive to Sam but the amount of character growth for him to bake the guy he saw as his replacement a cake and re-ice, come on now

ALSO this villian guy's build up is so epic I'm so hyped

Hen being the one making Buck a smoothie in his recovery montage after he made her diet stuff during hers is such an important detail to me

also that montage was cool and all but sometimes I forget the target audience is not queer young adults until the music choice painfully reminds me 😭

And I'm still not over the 118 having A FUCKING SLEEPOVER this is beautiful

I swear to god if they have May date Ravi and the only plotline is about Harry and Ravi Imma be so pissed.

Listen, I like this pairing okay? It makes sense, it's narratively interesting without being distracting, it brings May back into relevance (HARRY'S FIREFIGHTER ARC WAS TOTALLY STOLLEN FROM HER BUT WHATEVS IG), it starts drama for our new recruit, it gives the Ravi content I've been begging for, but also we can all just agree they're a pretty hot power couple.

What I DON'T like about this pairing is that I think it's going to put May's character at risk. We're seeing a trend here in 911 with our female characters disappearing, being written off, or just being ignored. Hen had more lines about her than by her, Athena has been showing up alot less, Maddie's barely present and only ever so she can react to her husband or brother's plotlines. And now one of the most empowered and likable women of the series who's been repeatedly sidelined and put on the bench is being reintroduced as a love interest and plot point for her brother.

I like May and Ravi together but I'm just really scared that instead of using this as an impactful narrative, that furthers both the characters and overarching plot, and makes May more central to the show they're going to just create more noise, and they're going to flatten down a beautifully complex and beloved series regular into an object to further the story of her date & her brother.

So episode 9x13 'mother's day' was pretty good.

I don't like that we're downplaying Buck's kidnapping plot like the jokes at the end "then you wouldn't have gotten to see the country" like no one would have said that to Maddie?

As a Buddie shipper I was eating good, but honestly I do think they came off way more platonic than usual (If I have to hear 'my friend' ever again I'm ending it) so I know the writers being careful af

I will say tho the scene with Chris was so telling; with Buck's reaction to Eddie's el paso line, and Chris' divorce line. They just reminded us of all the unresolved sadness, trauma and betrayal bubbling underneath the surface of their family dynamic. And then reinforced the entire narritive of the 188 being buck's family in so many different scenes.

So I haven't watched the newest episodes of 911 because I only want to do it if I can also write a well thought out analysis and opinion summary to post. Because those are my posts that get the most notes. I lowk had to softlaunch to myself the idea of watching them for my own enjoyment and not just to say something likable on the internet 😭

2 seconds in and I already have Buddie crumbs 😈

Eddie Diaz father of the year went and collected the info for Chris, knew his bus driver, and rightfully freaked the fuck out when he didn't have his location.

"I am mad. She took Chris." YES BRING BACK THE BUCKLEY-DIAZ FAMILY

Oh Buck's growth... "You love being objectified?" "Maybe I'm just not that guy anymore." Every time they make a joke about Buck's lack of self worth an angel loses it's wings 😔

Alex planting the whole jealous/evil/stalker Abigail idea made me real suspicious 🤨

Nothing more true to the little brother experience than Maddie walking into Buck's backyard and immediately yelling liar at him ❤️

At first in the hospital I was like how tf are they gonna explain Buck's presence rn and then I was like oh! obviously Buck is his emergency contact 🤗! BUT NO this mfer just 'found out' and set off to go make Eddie his problem as per usual

I think what would be really dope for this whole chrisnapped arc is if while Eddie and Buck are having their stuck in close proximity in the car tension/moment we got a sequel to the "Do you know how much Christopher misses you? How could you, you're not around!" grocery store divorce line. something along the lines of "And you show up NOW once Chris is missing? We've been back from Texas (Enter correct timeline amount here) months and you've barely been to the house!" as a way to call out the distance between the characters without explicit Buddie reasons (which there definitely are but this is a Chris centered arc and I don't think either of them would lose focus).

I don't know I just think that they've built up the Diaz's as Buck's family and then not showed it this season and an address of it is long over due. I don't care if we get into Bobby, Texasarc, Abuela, confessions, buddie, or even another divorce arc as long as we finally get into how much they love Chris and whatever reason the writers have given for Buddie's general weirdness this season.
