aether's name is, obviously, aether but . . . it also isn't aether, technically. through all the worlds he's traveled, he's yet to find someone who spoke the language of the tentai, making his birth name is borderline unpronounceable. the reason he goes by aether now is because when he and lumine managed to escape their home and traveled to a new place on their own that first time, a tired █████ tried describing what his name stands for. meaning - wise, aether was the one thing that they called him that was closest to it.

if mhy were to ever make a genpact show, the one thing, and i honestly do mean one thing i would ever ask of them is just to include a scene where aether sees zhongli at the rite of parting. rex lapis is " dead ", and ningguang is giving her stupid speech to the merchants of liyue who are a bit too happy with the fact that they're the ones in charge of the nation now with no divine authority to reign above them, and the world seems to have forgotten that they gave up their last line of defense ( like the fatui didn't just learn how to awaken osial and has that knowledge at their easy disposal now ), because fuck is it ever so easy to go the age of adepti is over ! when you have a vision strapped to your hip and enough money to buy every business in the city.

and zhongli is there. like nothing ever happened, as if he didn't deliver his people right to the tsaritsa on a silver platter, just another devotee giving their respects to the body of his fallen god. just admiring liyue harbor, where the people devastated by osial's awakening toil to fix things and return to a semblance normalcy. so aether hits him, a clean, quick right hook to the nose, the type that means broken bones and a black eye. zhongli marvels at the blood he gathers on his fingertips and bleeds for only a few seconds, his nose settling back into place, the blood cleaning up. aether doesn't say anything. he's seen enough of liyue.

no because it's interesting that throughout teyvat's history the arrival of outlanders is followed by destruction of the civilizations they've visited. especially so because these travelers and their arrivals are marked by massive change, which the cyclical, eternal nature of teyvat's world stands against.

aether is actually hiding his identity when he arrives in inazuma : hair is put in a different style, though at this point his bangs have changed since it's been a year, he's ditched a lot of the noticeable accessories like the scarf ( but never the earring ). I already do think he's regularly trading his clothes for more local outfits ( even though his main outfit is quite literally magicked to never fray or get dirty ), but I especially don't accept mhy's rationale for not taking up ayaka's offer. so he does in fact go around inazuma wearing the clothes she got for him, which I imagine being similar to the second outfit picture below
