I created a discord server for Undertale/Undertale AU fans!

It's supposed to be a fandom space for adults :3

Check out the Undertale AU Fanspace community on Discord - hang out with 1 other members and enjoy free voice and text chat.

I really struggle making friends and joining pre existing communities is even harder so I thought i'd open my own community to make meeting people easier!

It's still pretty barebones but it's supposed to be a chill space to have fun!

Vent post, sorta

Being a sex repulsed ace and craving romance and a romantic relationship is the worst thing ever. Because not only do i struggle immensely with differentiating between platonic and romantic love, which autism is not helping with, but also like actual possible options are so incredibly narrow. As things are most people are allo, straight or both. Whenever i believe to be in love i already know that i can forget it. "I can live without sex" is one of the biggest lies an allo person can say and will end in tension within the relationship, not to mention I obviously don't want my partner to feel like they have to get rid of a vital need for them. I more than understand that sex is something important to other people and i'd feel cruel for taking something like that away from someone, especially someone i love. Adding to that that I'm already struggling a lot with lonliness and depression my mind just immediately jumps the gun that there won't be anyone ever and i'll be alone forever.

The one relationship i had that actually fit, where we matched as people and with our sexualities, is burned. Broke off, we tried again and then i learned that not only do we just not work together but also they lied to me when they said they still had feelings for me too and it just made me feel incredibly used. It was an immense stroke of luck that i found that person in the first place, we kept making jokes how incredibly unlikely it was that we even met.

And now we're at the starting point of being unable to differentiate between feelings because am I over them? I hope i am. But also they were a vital social contact and occasionally my only real social contact in the past 3 years. As much as I hate it i can't deny they were incredibly important to how i developed in recent years, all the good and all the bad. And that hole is there now. And it's not gonna go away for a while, is it? On some days i am so close to just unblocking them and texting them again to at least get that friendship back just because i feel lonely. But i don't want that. I don't want to be blinded by the good memories to forget the bad and how much they hurt me. I don't want anything to do with them anymore. I know perfectly well that my brain is chasing a phantom of what i believed i had.

God this is a mess.

For the record, i know that my lonliness is no one's fault but mine. I struggle keeping social contacts going and am bad at socializing in general, too anxious to even talk to new people. I guess i just wanted to scream into the void because i haven't seen my therapist in a while and she's still on vacation.

Something that is permanently in my head but i can't for the life of me remember where it's from is a video in which Papyrus says "BEHOLD! MY MIDRIFF!" and like it wasn't even a main thing. It was just a random line within a bigger video but i have no idea where it's from but this exact voiceline activates like a sleeper agent whenever i see the word "behold!"

So out of fucking nowhere i had the urge to listen to Bonetrousle on repeat. For the record, i initially don't even like the song that much. Not to say it's bad but i like other songs more. So this urge in of itself is already odd

And I swear this fucking song is comforting as hell in a way i cannot describe, chased away bad thoughts and vibes i didn't even notice i had and is lulling me to sleep at a normal hour despite my masterfully fucked up sleep schedule

Is- is Papyrus taking care of me from the fucking beyond or something?? What is this? I don't believe in spiritual stuff but this is beyond weird 😭 but like in a good way but still odd

I know we commonly associate the twins with apples for obvious reasons (sometimes even tying their scent to apples etc as i've seen in various fanfics)

BUT CONSIDER:

The apples are what's left of their mother. It's not the twin's legacy, rather than just something they were left with. Nim just dumped everything on them lowkey. It's not theirs.

What if they each had an individual fruit? Somewhat like how vocaloids tend to have their signature produce? (Miku with her leeks, Rin with her oranges, Len with Banans, Kaito with ice cream etc)

While they're not physically associated with other fruit, I did look up what some other fruit tend to mean symbolically throughout history and from what i looked at these fit the twins best in my opinion:

Dream: Orange - joy, vitality, good luck, sunshine, freshness, upbeat mood, signals warmth

Nightmare: Pomegranate - rebirth, depth, abundance, often read as resilience

What do we think? :3

I think it would be a pretty cool character progression to like adopt these fruits as a way to be their own people/guardians instead of living in Nim's shadow or something.

Something that's very difficult for me when writing within the Undertale fandom (and other scenarios focusing on non human characters) is using familiar terminology, or not doing that rather. Because the characters in focus of my stories are monsters and very decidedly not human.

Now the issue is that i do not have substitute terms. Because when i want to call someone a monster i mean the term meaning horrid being, you know, how we tend to call others monsters if they commit monstrous acts. While beast is a viable synonym it doesn't fit as well as i'd like. Likewise the descriptive terms human and humane fall away as well. When someone is losing their mind i cannot say they're "losing their humanity" because they were never a human to begin with given the different race and all. I haven't found a replacement for that yet.

Do y'all have any ideas what words to use instead?

Been going through old comic dubs for nostalgia reasons and came along Mr Amazing VA. Bro left irreversible impact in the InkError community i feel. I mean that in the most positive way possible, his dubs were amazing. While I don't remember if he ever did InkError content directly i do know for a while most his utmv dubs were ink and Error centered and hey close enough

I think a thing many people forget in the conflict between Dream and Nightmare is that both of them are children who couldn't grow up properly.

They were created with the mental age and body of around a 6 year old and given the impossible tasks to be guardians. Then throughout their very short childhood they were not only expected to act like adults but also they were being treated like shit by EVERYONE. Nightmare was outwardly bullied and Dream was used like a convenient tool.

How old were they when the apple incident happend? 8? Maybe 10? No shit that the emotions there were running incredibly high and the grudges are petty. They were children.

Then Dream was in stone for 500 years, missing crucial development, meanwhile Nightmare very likely heavily isolated himself given we don't know what exactly he did until Dream emerged. When Dream did emerge he was literally still the same child, meanwhile Nightmare did not have the grounds to grow up proper, staying in a very childish and immature mindset. Nightmare is probably further along than Dream but he's still stuck as well.

Yes the beef these two have is founded on bitter, petty stuff. But that's because they're kids. It'd take another hundred years minimum for them to get their shit together because who's going to teach them? They have to do everything alone. There's no one to helpfully guide them.

The twins needed proper parental figures. Someone to help and guide them. They're lacking it and it shows. And by now it's too late for someone to take charge for them.

This is why i like AUs where various different people adopt the twins and it shapes how they feel and think about certain stuff. Happyverse by @/chiiprobably is one of my favorite instances of that. Because Nightmare was raised by Ink and Dream by Error. Did the kids come out messed up? Absolutely. But they're still so much better off than in a world where they had to fend for themselves at every stage of their lifes.
