“Or maybe just poorly received,” he conceded with a nod and self-depricating roll of his eyes. “You’ve been using it for, what is it, five years? I grew up with it and I’d say most people feel about the same way. Thanks,” he said as he took the glass and sat at one end of the sofa, turned slightly to face her as she took the other end. “It’s been interesting, that’s for sure,” he offered before taking a sip. He’d lost track of how many things he’d googled, how many books he’d pulled from the shelves at the library. None of that seemed to matter at the moment. “All things considered, I’ve been good. Life goes on, even when you’re seeing it through new and different glasses.” He draped an arm over the back cushion and took another sip. “What about you? I saw you pretty much decimated the other side in the Massey case last week. Not that I was surprised.”
“Interesting? Surely there must be a more robust word to describe what you must have been feeling when...” She hesitated as a name failed to come to mind, quickly remembering that Gavin had refused to give her one. “...whomever your little birdie is told you.” She snarled inaudibly at his nonchalant response. Until he finds out I’m now the queen of hell, she thought as she raised her glass to hide the small forming smirk. “Well, good. Now if only the rest of the mortals could be as composed as you then we’d be back home in no time.” Victoria had no shame in letting her gaze linger over parts of Gavin that didn’t include his face. “Decimated?” She scoffed. “Sweetheart, they should be throwing a parade that all they got was life in prison. I’m sure you’re little birdie filled you in on what I did once upon a time. Had I been able to do to them in this world what I could back home they’d have paid me to receive the sentence they did last week.” She was trying to not get disgruntled over her limitations and quickly decided to redirect the conversation. “But you said you saw it which means you’ve been following my cases.” Her head tilted slightly to the side. “Keepin’ tabs on me, are you?”
