i'm so tired of people hating on lestat for the wrong reasons. the trial for example. you can hate lestat because he didn't (couldn't) save claudia, i bet he hates himself too for that. but thinking he was there for revenge??? that he participated in it willingly because he wanted louis and claudia to die?? did you watch that whole scenes? i mean REALLY watching it, including the flashback after louis found out what armand did?
if you did, you can clearly see that lestat didn't want to do it. he went off script a few times that santiago and the others got frustrated by it. he confessed his crime, that he also broke the law, and that was NOT IN THE SCRIPT. you can see the coven vampires got slightly panicked when he did that because it was not in their plan. he was apparently bruised?? i didn't realized it, but someone on twt pointing that out and yes his hands was bruised. they probably did something to him to make him agree to do it.
in the flashback armand got angry at lestat when they did rehearsal because he said his lines lazily, not following the script (he clearly didn't want to do it, how else am i supposed to explain this scene?). then he got angry when armand tell him what they're gonna do to claudia, and he threw away the script. if you watched that scene and still think he was there willingly then you're so blind. what if he let louis be with armand and didn't tell him the truth because a deal was made between him and armand? oh armand when i CATCH you armand.
i'm not ready for season 3, to finally see his pov on all this and some people will still not believe his side of the story because he's an evil final boss in their eyes. like please just stop watching it if you can't understand anything that happened in the series 😭
This is a very "I am a fan I own my blorbo and if you disagree with me you're wrong and I hate you" approach to things. It's very toxic fandom thing to say "you don't understand anything that happened in the series".
If Lestat was this boring and virtuous he wouldn't be an interesting character. If he had a single monotonous perspective towards the people he loves (for instance, not wanting to kill them) then he'd be flat and there'd be nothing worth saying about him.
Love and hate aren't antithetical. Love and indifference are.
This person is throwing a tantrum about a deliberate choice being made by the writers of the show and the interpretation of other audience members as though people are Watching TV Wrong.
I've been waiting for Dick Cheney to beef it for almost 25 years, it's been so long I almost don't even know what to say.
I don't know if people younger than 30 really understand what a monster that man was and how much harm we still feel today.
The man was such cruel bastard that he the 2004 reelection campaign on opposing gay rights to the point of rallying for a federal ban on legal gay relationships while having a gay daughter.
He orchestrated lie after lie after lie to kill millions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The social environment in the mid-00's was honestly even worse than it is today. You couldn't be hyper-patriotic at all times let alone be critical of them.
He's one of the main reasons we have the patriot act and drones and militarized police and ICE and DHS and why we lost nearly all of our civil liberties.
All of the bad shit Trump is doing now is because Dick Cheney set the stage for him. None of this was possible without him.
do any of you guys remember that sculpture of theseus & the minotaur that lowkey looks like theseus is riding the minotaur like his life depends on it
this one?
Is the lowkey in the room with us?
Saw this when I was in London this summer, I stopped my friend to point at it and said "holy shit it's the statue of Theseus fucking the Minotaur" in the middle of the very busy museum.

anyway the thing about fanfic is that it's not essentially bad or good; it's essentially amateur. some people are absolutely out there writing award-worthy prose (some fic writers ARE award-winning writers IRL!), but that's not the point. the point is that we're all telling campfire stories. it's a community, and it's a way to spend some more time in the worlds and stories that we love.

The issue that these vampires deal with all the time and consistently throughout the books is the fact that you never die. You never know, really, what is the meaning of anything. And religion, throughout the ages, 'cause these are old creatures, is the main catechism that kind of keeps running at them.

That fic you wrote?
The one about the ship no one else cares about, or the deeply unpopular character, or the extremely unusual AU?
The fic that got no comments or kudos when you posted it?
Months or years from now, that fic might be exactly what someone is looking for in the sea of fics about all the popular characters, ships, and AUs.
Your fic might be the only fic out there that has what someone is looking for. The only fic that scratches the itch that it turns out you and that reader share.
And that's awesome.

That's this fic. This is pure self indulgence.
The rest of them pull in hits because I fix poor story choices that were unpopular.
