Diana smiled at her. “It is!” She chuckled. “I just wish some of my siblings would pop some out of me to start spoiling.” She admitted. “That doesn’t sound fun at all.. Would you not be able to set up something over here? Even if it is just a home office?” She suggested. “With the technology and things today it should be possible.”

“Then it might be time to work on nagging them about it,” Vienna joked lightly. “I don’t know,” she replies her question with a shrug. Could she help run a huge oil company all the way across from its main location? Maybe. “To be honest, I didn’t come here thinking this is going to be a permanent thing, but it also might be longer than I predicted. So maybe I should really invest in that. A small office for myself doesn’t sound too bad,” she added with a smile.

Connor smiled at the woman, “I think that Ellie might be a little too small to understand a birthday, but we could definitely bring her by.” he said as he looked down at his own daughter in his arms, “Every kid should have a celebration on their birthday. How old is your daughter going to be?”

“Oh you’re Ellie’s father!” Vienna smiled widely. “I met your wife actually and invited her already. She was happy to drag you along, actually,” she chuckled. “So your family is already RSVP’ed,” she joked. “Mine is two. Her name is Leighton”.

Ryan looked back at her with a small smile when she insisted he had to do it, “Okay, no worries I’ll do it” he said, getting up and going to grab a new towel and wetting it, coming back over and cleaning around where she got the cut, “I have to clean it and disinfect it, otherwise it’ll just get worse- and I know you don’t want that” he said, looking back at her, “It won’t burn, trust me I’ve been burned, it feels very different” he said, knowing that the scar he’d shown her wasn’t just a cut, but also a large burn. “Where do you keep your first aid kit?” he asked, figuring there would be some disinfectant in it and the wrapping for her hand. He let out a small laugh at her comment, “Yeah, I’m a little surprised, I’m not gonna lie. You’re kind of a wimp” he teased her, obviously joking.

“Thank you,” she said softly, smiling back. She watched him as he got up to get prepared to take care of the cut. When he started to clean, she flinched at first before relaxing. He wasn’t touching the wound yet. Her eyes were up at the ceiling as usual to prevent from looking at the cut but her head tilted back at a visible speed and she gave him another suspicious look. “I don’t know in what world bar owners get to experience this much injuries,” she tried to joke lightly before feeling bad about it. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what I’m saying. The cut and all,” she gestured with her other hand apologetically. “It’s in the cabinet in the bathroom. The one to your left,” she called after him. “Yeah, I know,” she said in a childish sadness. “I’m not as tough as I look,” she joked, shooting him a half smile.

“I can tell you’re not, trust me,” Sarah chuckled slightly. Her eyes went to the other girl’s boobs, nodding in agreement, “yeah, they do.” She lay back on the couch, taking another swig of her scotch. She had been planning to keep that bottle for a rainy day but, let’s face it, every day was a rainy day. “I take ‘Rude Lady’ as a compliment, thank you very much,” Sarah said, “I would be more offended if I didn’t call you anything at all.” She drank to that, taking another sip again, "fuck them all.”

“Just because I’m nice doesn’t mean I’m not spicy. Spice girls were nice, weren’t they? But they’re spiiiiiice girls.” Vienna had her head tilted down so she looked up through her lashes as if she was wearing glasses and looked over them, she was already feeling buzzed from the countless large sips of vodka. “How many shots did I made so far, you reckon?” she asked, tilting her head to the side now to inspect the clear liquid in the bottle. “Rude lady is being rude again, what a shocker!” she gasped, mocking Sarah but chuckled and nodded at her statement, despite the foul language. “I’m just starting to realize how dangerous this is to be in a strangers apartment with my shirt unbuttoned and drunk. In Ashton, of all places.” She laughed again, seeing the irony in coming here considering what she ran away from in England.

“You don’t have to apologize, it’s not like you caused the explosion or anything” he said before smiling a little as she said she was happy he was better now. “That makes two of us” he said, looking down and starting to move the towel that was on her cut. “To be fair, it is very difficult to hide when it’s literally plastered across half my chest” he said, knowing he would hide it more if he didn’t know she would’ve found out eventually. He looked at her arm for a second, “And look at that- bleeding has stopped, I don’t see any glass, and you definitely don’t need stitches” he said, looking back up at her. “Now we just run that under cold water, put a little bit of disinfectant on it, and then cover it and you’ll be good as new. Do you want me to help with that or would you rather I clean the glass up while you do that?”

“I know, but still,” she shrugged. When he started to look at her cut, she consciously had to focus not to look down and instead she focused on his hair. He had nice hair, it was distracting enough. “Good. Good,” she nodded, relieved that he once again confirmed she wouldn’t need stiches and it wasn’t bleeding anymore. “No, no, no,” she refused with a shake of her head. “I don’t want to look at it. You have to do all the -” she made a weird gesture with her hand, whatever it was, it meant to mean all the disinfecting and wrapping it up. “It’s going to bleed again if we wash it. And it’s gonna hurt. Then it’s gonna burn when you clean it up.” She buried her face on the crook of her elbow for a second and her muffled voice came through, “and to think I went through childbirth...”

“That is fair, you usually just don’t like to admit it outloud to me, so that’s new” he said, clearing his throat as she apologized for his scar. He stayed quiet for a second when she asked what happened, not sure how much of the story he wanted to share. “It’s a long story” he said with a short nod. “I was standing a little too close to an explosion and I almost lost my arm. Which resulted in a very long recovery and a pain pill addiction that almost killed me again. And then rehab, and now you’re all caught up”

“Because usually I’m not high on panic,” she said, managing a small smile. She had so many questions about that story, one being how the hell he was too close to an explosion but she felt his discomfort telling the story as it is and didn’t want to make him any more uncomfortable. But she was glad that he shared it with her. She always thought him becoming sober was more about alcohol and probably some drugs too, that he got hooked on for enjoyment. This was not what she ever thought could be a part of that cleaning up story. “I’m sorry about it,” she said again, being genuine. “I’m glad you’re better now,” she said, not sure if it was the right thing to say or not. But he certainly looked better. “Thanks for telling me,” she added after a second of silence.

“Oh you should get hurt more often, I can finally get some honesty out of you” he said with a small laugh before looking back at her. “Yes, stitches. Except you don’t need them, so there’s no reason to freak out over it” he said before shrugging, “I’ve seen my fair share of stitches, you won’t need them. You can trust me on that” he said, sighing before looking back up at her when she pointed out that he wasn’t looking at her. He kept one hand holding the towel before taking his other hand and pulling back his shirt by his neck to show the large scar that covered most of his shoulder. “I didn’t just see it, I lived it” he said before readjusting his shirt to cover it back up.

“I never said you don’t look good. Never not been dishonest,” she shrugged. But it was true that she wouldn’t have been so blunt if she had a clear head so he wasn’t too far off. She raised her brows when he started to pull down his shirt and looked even more shocked to see such a big and deep scar. “I’m sorry,” she said quietly and her hand reached to touch it for a second before he fixed his shirt, which resulted in him apologizing quickly again. “What happened?”

“Wow,” Sarah seemed impressed, “I didn’t expect you to have some spice in you. I don’t think you’re a lame mom, by the way. Yeah, you’re not the ‘coolest’ person I’ve hung out with,” she did air quotes around the word coolest, the word not usually being in her vocabulary, “but you’re not a complete drab.” She chuckled as she took another drink, “because it’s fun to give people nicknames. Plus I will probably forget your name, but I won’t forget Billy Joel. It’s word association or some shit.” She raised her glass, “to dad figures being bastards.”

“I’m full of spice!” Vienna scoffed but smiled when Sarah said she didn’t think Vienna was lame. “You don’t even know me! How can you decide I’m not the coolest when all you had was me in pain because you burned me?” she asked, pointing at her exposed stomach, which had a bag of tater tots on it. She tilted her to the side a bit, “My boobs look great from this angle,” she muttered an off-topic comment before chugging some more gulps of the vodka and once again making a face when it burned her throat. “You’re not allowed to forget my name unless you want me to call you ‘the Rude Lady’ next time I see you,” she warned, pretty much as threatening as a baby penguin. Which was a lot funny to her considering she was quite intimidating when she was in her office running a big oil company but a cute stay at home mom here in Ashton. She raised her bottle in the air, “To dad figures in general.”

“Yeah, just look at me. I look good, ogle me a little- I deserve it” he joked lightly with a small smile, hoping it might distract her a little. He shook his head when she said they should go to the hospital, “There’s no reason to go to a hospital, you’re not even going to need stitches.” he said confidently, after seeing so many cuts in his days he could generally tell when one was going to be bad and when one was nothing. He stayed quiet for a moment when she asked how he remained calm before just saying, “I’ve seen a lot worse” and continuing to look down at her arm, now avoiding eye contact since the topic of him handling this so well came up.

“You do, yes,” she nodded again, very much absent-mindedly before snapping out of it for a little. “Stop getting cocky, it’s not the time. I’m bleeding here,” she scolded him. “Stitches?!” she asked in fear. She didn’t even consider that she could need them. She groaned again, looking at the ceiling, trying to take deep breaths. She tilted her head back down to look at him questioningly. “How do you know I won’t need them. You have a doctorate in maths. Not medicine,” she pointed out. She didn’t like it when he went quite. It was better when he was getting cocky and talking about his face. She was at least distracted by something nice to look at instead of the white ceiling. “I can’t look at you if you’re not looking at me,” she muttered quietly when he focused on her hand, which was simply wrapped in a towel still. “How did you see worse?” she asked, almost in a whisper, not even sure if she wanted any gnarly images in her head at the given moment.

Emma had listened to her story and it had made sense to her except for the part with the safe place. It hadn’t been very safe for a year and a half now but if her brother had been a cop maybe that had made it seem safer to her. “Okay? Do you know them?” She had asked once her eyes had followed her motion towards a small group of people. “Sounds good! You do the talking I’ll just try to look nice.” Emma had chuckled. “Okay, fine. I’ll give them a chance. Can we do a shot before we go?”: 

“Some of them,” she shrugged before she looked at her with a smile, “Well you don’t have to try at all, you look gorgeous,” she encouraged her with a compliment. She raised a curious brow at the suggestion of shots but she nodded with a chuckle. “I think a detour wouldn’t be too bad. Shots it is, then.”

Ryan looked back at her, seeing how much she was freaking out now. “Yeah, I can see that” he said before looking back down at the towel over the cut as she asked about the glass. “If there is any glass then I’ll take it out when I look at it, but I don’t think there is” he said, looking back over at her. “Just don’t look at, look at me. You’re going to be fine, it’s really not bad I promise” he said in a sweet voice, “If it was bad, I’d be freaking out right? But I’m not, so you’re fine. Just a take a breath, you’re fine”

She accidentally looked down when he looked at the cut as well but she directed her gaze from the towel to him as he instructed. “Look at you, okay,” she nodded once again. His voice was somewhat calming but still, it didn’t take her mind off of the towel around her wrist. She couldn’t fully calm down before it would be taken care of. “Maybe we should go to the hospital,” she muttered. She looked more carefully at him, inspecting his face to find that he indeed wasn’t freaking out. She took a breath as he said, “How are you calm?”

“You definitely are” he said with a laugh before looking down to hide his smile when she said that he was good with Leighton. He looked back up with his regular smirk before shrugging, “Eh, the kids alright, I guess” he said, partially joking and partially because he wouldn’t admit that he did like her. Ryan looked back over as she cut her wrist on the broken glass, not having much of a reaction to the sight. Obviously he had seen much worse and dealt with worse- but that wasn’t something she knew. He picked up a clean kitchen towel before stepping over to her side and placing it over where she got cut and putting pressure on the wound. “Alright I’m just going to keep pressure on it for a few minutes and then I’ll check on it” he said calmly before gesturing for her to move to go sit down. “And don’t worry about the glass I’ll clean that up once this is done. Sound alright?”

Vienna looked up at the ceiling, her breathing getting quicker. “I don’t like blood,” she muttered, feeling faint. She groaned when he pressed. “What if there’s pieces of glass in the cut?” she asked in slight panic, looking back at him, which, he looked awfully calm for how much blood there was. “Okay, okay,” she nodded as she turned to sit on the closest kitchen table, her wrist still in his hand. She made sure to not look over at the scene of the accident. “Mhmm,” she nodded again when he said he’d take care of the glass. “How bad is it?” she asked, her face looking up again.

“You’re playing exactly how I expect you to, but it’s cute that you think you’re not” he said with a smile before nodding when she said Leighton had fallen asleep already. “That’s cute. She really likes me, it’s kinda nice” he said with a small smile as he walked back in with her and put the plates down. “Are you sure? I can stay for a little if you want me to”

“No I’m not!” she argued back. “Am I?” she questioned for a second. “No. No I’m not,” she decided. She smiled when he talked about Leighton. “She does,” she nodded in agreement. “You’re really good with her too,” she added with a knowing smile, “I think it’s not too far off if I say you also really like her.” He could say he wasn’t a kids man all he wanted. Vienna preferred to believe what she saw. “Yes, I’m sure, it’s just a few plates,” she said but just as she gestured with her, she hit a champagne glass, which shattered against the stack of plates before she jammed her head against the same area where the edge of the broken glass were. She hissed in pain and held her wrist and blood rushed out, covering her hand in red instantly.

“Okay, but only if you insist.” She told her with a light chuckle, still debating wether or not to do it. “Okay, fine I might be able to compromise, but no promises.” She winked at her. “No, that is okay. I mean, I love to shop for kids stuff and I don’t have anyone in my family yet who has kids.” She shrugged at her. “That sounds nice! I mean, I love my job, but a break doesn’t sound too bad.”

“Well good thing the little kid population is rising lately, huh?” she chuckled. “To be honest, it’s not nice. I miss work. I hate doing nothing at home except for replying to some confidential e-mails and guiding the guy who is currently sitting on my desk in the office until I get back.”

Ryan let out a laugh when she held the dishes out for him to clean. “Not exactly what I had in mind but it’ll do for now” he said before taking the dishes from her, fully intending on actually doing them for her. “You put Leighton to sleep?” he asked

“Too bad,” she said with a smirk, “Must be really awful when the opponent isn’t playing the way you want, is it?” she chuckled, still teasing him. She nodded at his question. “Yeah, she was really tired from the party. She was half asleep before her head even hit the pillow,” she laughed softly before gathering the rest of the dishes and walking back inside. Once they were in the kitchen, she placed her dishes first and took back the ones she gave to him. “Thank you again for tonight, Ryan. I’ll handle the rest. It’s just loading the dishwasher at this point.”

“Like torture, actually” he said with a smile, “You can still come to my bar though, don’t give my competitions any business that I could be getting” he said, before rolling his lips into a line when she said something about playing dirty, needing to resist from making a comment about it while there was a child in his arms. He’d gotten pretty good at censoring himself in front of kids because of Connor. He put Leighton down when Vienna came back in before putting his keys in his pocket and handing Leighton the gift. He smirked back at Vienna, “Oh I’m enjoying it, for sure. But it won’t be the last” he said, walking over and standing next to her before saying quietly so only Vienna could hear, “You have no idea how dirty I’m willing to get” he said with a wink before he looked back at Leighton. “You enjoy that present and I’m going to go start cleaning up” he said before smirking back at Vienna and walking over to where everyone had been earlier and starting to pick up garbage that was left behind.

When he came too close, alarm bells were already ringing in Vienna’s head but when he stopped next to her, she felt like she was practically frozen in her spot. Her eyes grew wide hearing his words and heat instantly travelled up her neck to her cheeks. The audacity this man had! She almost choked on thin air. Well, she had to admit, it was partially her own doing. A second goes by without any flirty remarks from him, she would test the dangerous waters but then he would just say something like this and leave her in the middle of her living room with a mouth hanging open. She snapped out of it quickly, however and gathered Leighton in her arms, muttering something about bedtime despite the little human’s objections. She came back out at the backyard once Leighton was asleep. While she was certainly caught a little bit off guard at first, she had a bit of time to recover and think of comebacks while she was with Leigh. So after silently piling up the dishes along side him, she stood in front of him and held them up for him to take. “So you like dirty, you were saying? We have a lot of dirty dishes to take care of,” she said with a sweet smile, only because she knew she wouldn’t let him actually do dishes in the first place.

Sarah set her jaw at the other girl’s words, trying not to overreact. “I am doing fine, actually. If I wanted to finish high school and go to some prissy school with prissy people in it then I could’ve, but I had other plans.” She took an overly large gulp from her bottle when she finished, wiping her mouth with her sleeve afterwards. “Trust me, Billy, I can handle my drink just fine. Been doing it since I was 14.” She laughed at Vienna’s reaction, “Jesus Christ, I was kidding. I don’t want your step-dad.”

Vienna could see that Sarah did not like her comments so just buried herself in her bottle, keeping quite. At some point her mind wandered off, how many shots she would have to take every time she insulted someone but she got back on the conversation when she heard her new nickname. Which she was yet to object to. “I know being American and all, your drinking age is too far in the future, but many of us Europeans don’t really boost about that kind of thing. I had my first beer when I was in 6th grade. I was twelve. And I guess from highschool on out I’ve been drinking. Just because I’m now a lame mum doesn’t mean I wasn’t cool once,” she scoffed. “See I told Ryan that too, he just dismissed. What is it with you people seeing me as some boring posh lady?” she said, now unreasonably upset a little. Oh Gosh, she was definitely getting drunk a lot quicker than she thought. “Also, what’s the point of me telling my name if you’re gonna keep calling me Billy. It’s a men’s name,” she said with a face that resembled her two year old toddler’s when she was throwing a fit. “Good. Don’t get near my step-dad. He’s a jerk.”
