Watch the First Episode of Comedy Central's 'Drunk History' Two Weeks Early
by Bradford Evans@ 11:40 am
Comedy Central's newest series, Drunk History, isn't debuting until July 9th, but the network has added the first episode to its website, where it's viewable right now. The show is based on the popular Funny or Die web series of the same name from Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner, in which comedians get drunk and explain historical events while actors act them out. The premiere episode covers the Watergate scandal, John Wilkes Booth, and Elvis meeting Nixon with Bob Odenkirk, Adam Scott, Will Forte, Nathan Fielder, Stephen Merchant, Jack Black, Fred Willard, Jonathan Ames, Jack McBrayer, and Dave Grohl guest starring.
Adam Scott as John Wilkes Booth(!) - with Will Forte as his older, more accomplished brother, Edwin Booth. (Starts at around 7:50.)
Things I learned from this video:Ā 1) the assassination of Abraham Lincoln was the result of not-very-well-suppressed sibling rivalry. 2) Even as a disturbed murderer (with really odd facial hair), Adam Scott is adorable. 3) Even when they're being paid to be funny, drunk people are 3 parts annoying to 1 part funny.
Highly-acclaimed comedy āParks and Recreationā will launch its sixth season with an hourlong episode at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 that takes the show to London.

...London?
āAs a teenager for some reason I connected to it, for whatever reason I was really really intoĀ Thirtysomething. I think also I wanted to dress like Ken Olin and wanted to be a sensitive dad. And I remember they played āAngel of Harlemā in an episode and Melanie Mayron invited someone to go see U2, and I remember thinking, āYeah, theyāre not touring right now but thatās cute and I appreciate them using āAngel of Harlem.ā They did not tour behind āRattle & Hum,ā at least not in the US, but I understand what youāre trying to do and I appreciate it.ā
Adam Scott really does belong on tumblr.
I canāt begin to explain how much it delights me that Adam was into thirtysomething when he was a teenager.Ā I loved thirtysomething when I was in high school - though I missed the original run by a couple of years.Ā I think I caught it when it was syndicated on Lifetime in the late 90s.Ā Melissa was my fave.
The overlap between his list and my list is pretty close to perfect. Except I would have put Family Ties on there somewhere. AndĀ thirtysomething was so amazing. There are episodes I still think about - getting out of the cab and walking the last few blocks from the hospital. Discovering a new loverās hip tattoo, which is delightful even if youāre married to someone else and this is a bad idea. All the messy kitchens.Ā
I think the episode that's stuck with me the most - oddly because I have no real frame of reference for this - was Hope's miscarriage.Ā Just the tone of that episode coupled with the imagery of the first-birthday-that-would-never-be - ugh, just so beautifully done.Ā I'd really love to revisit the series now that I actually am a 30-something.Ā

wheeeere have you been? i was just talking with some people about how we haven't heard from you since before the season ended!
Awww, thatās so nice to hear!Ā I didnāt think anyone had noticed that Iād āgone.āĀ Actually I didnāt really go anywhere, I was out of town for a little over a week and missed watching both Swing Vote and the Finale live.Ā For some reason when I got back and caught up I just never got back in the swing of posting.Ā Iām a lurker at heart, and honestly sometimes it takes some effort to goad myself into posting something.Ā But (other than the beginning of May) Iāve been hear, just silently watching behind the scenes.Ā I have a really busy summer ahead of me so Iām probably going to stay fairly quiet, but Iām always up for chatting/answering questions, etc.Ā Seriously, feel free to nudge me anytime!
(And incidentally, since I never did get the chance to comment, Iāll just leave this here:Ā I am so, so glad that I was wrong about the finale and so, so glad that it turned out the way it did.Ā Iām feeling really optimistic about the next season.)
āI remember like a year ago after we had finished the previous season, Amy and I were kind of talking about, we would love to see them get married and we didnāt even know if that was going to happen or not,ā Scott laughed. āBut we were talking about how we would love to see them married and happy and talking about them like they were real, separate people, and we caught ourselves like, Jesus Christ, weāre a little too involved in these imaginary lives.ā
-Adam Scott, who should never be ashamed of his inner fanboy. (x)

::Sigh::Ā I really feel as though I don't even need to watch the finale now.
But really, I enjoy this show 10X more when Ben and Leslie interact.Ā They make me so happy.
Such good episodes.
Guys, I am so season one Leslie Knope these days.Ā
::sigh::
(Minus the ambition.Ā Plus raging insecurities.)
Confidential to Galentines:
I'm really hoping that your source is right!Ā But at this point I'm a little wary about trusting any "unofficial" spoiler reports.Ā If the person has actually seen the full script, I might be persuaded, but barring that...
Parks spoilers but really speculation re: season finale spoilers:
Please let me be wrong here!Ā I really don't what an April/Andy baby right now.Ā (I'm on board with a Leslie/Ben baby and even an Ann-as-a-single-mom baby, but April and Andy procreating (right now) is really... not what I want.Ā And I was really miffed last year when I was able to basically predict the season finale developments beat-for-beat*.Ā I don't want that to be the case this year.Ā
(*and quite grudgingly at that.Ā I didn't want the Washington/long distance relationship storyline when the possibility first came to light, and I ultimately wasn't fond of how it played out.Ā I worry that history might be repeating itself here.)
But.... WHY?Ā
I'm not going to argue about whether or not Amy Poehler actually "looks older" than Adam Scott; that's an issue of perception and isn't reconcilable nor worth the discussion.Ā But why would it bother you that she looks older?Ā Why would that affect your viewing experience or your enjoyment of them as a couple?Ā Why are women not allowed to look older (or, ::gasp:: be older) than their male partners?
It may be that Stockholm Syndrome is setting in, but I'm starting to becoming quite fond of Adam Scott the golfer.
Brief thoughts on Parks
Yet another episode of three completely separate, non-intersecting plots.Ā (This obviously bothers me less if Ben and Leslie are in the same story, but Iām starting to get really sick of the feast-or-famine-ness of their interactions.)
The Ron+Ann and Ben+Tom+Andy stories were sweet and fun, but ultimately a little slight.Ā Thatās not necessarily a bad thing, but I think there could have been a little more heft to the Ron+Ann story in particular.
I have very complicated feelings about April, which this episode really brought to the surface in a big way.Ā Iāve liked her development this season, and I often find her amusing, but I also find her very difficult to like.Ā I donāt quite āgetā her, I guess, and it frustrates me.Ā And for some reason there was something about this storyline - or more specifically April in this storyline (I loved Leslieās interactions with her fellow City Councilors) - that rubbed me the wrong way.Ā I started to write up a whole explanation as to why I think I have a difficult time with April, but my thoughts are all over the place tonight, so Iām just going to leave it there for now, I think.Ā I need to process some more.
I know I'm oversensitive when it comes to Leslie/Ben, but I really didn't appreciate the April's divorce "joke."Ā I might have reacted differently if it had been delivered in a different way or Leslie/Amy's response had been more comedic in nature, but as it was I think it really fell flat.
Chris works so much better for me when he's the supporting character/small presence in other character's storylines.Ā For me at least, Chris Traeger is best appreciated in small doses.
Bottom line:Ā I found Animal Control to be enjoyable but not amazing.Ā A perfectly fine episode with some really fun moments, but ultimately not that exciting or memorable.
Lesson for the day:
If you make the effort to put on makeup, your friends will call to cancel just as you're walking out the door.
