here's the thing, the very important thing, the cheese:

this was my very first drawing like this. before this one i'd alllllways say UGH you you'll never catch me drawing anything else than a character standing in a blank space. MAYBE two .

BUT I really wanted to draw a scene like this. I tried and it was immediately ass, just terrible. i'm too embarrassed to even show you. BBBBUT then I used references. and here we are!

references references references! they really are the stuff. don't be scared to use em! you'll learn from it.

for this one i spliced a bunch together and went to town. it's such a good tool for me as well because i rely a LOT on momentum when i draw, and it really allows me to hit the ground running. for a big piece like this, the moment i feel like i lose momentum or get stuck on something i move on and come back to it later.

I get my references on pinterest! always photos though, i never use anyone else's work, that'd feel a bit weird to me.

also worth noting, when i first started this piece it was gonna be so....so so much smaller.... like four characters tops. but then I kept adding people in, cause how do you choose?? and i really wanted to have the non main characters in there as well. i'm really happy with them, like they're just the kinda people i'd see in my classes.

and once i finished it i realised of course i had to draw everyone's ducks.... it was like four in the morning 🚬👴🏻 but i haddd to and it was really fun.

luffys drawing is actually how i normally do life drawing. i'm such a lil shit to have in class. i draw fast, don't do shading because i'm bad at it, get bored, draw it again and again. Meanwhile, robins drawing is more similar to my own art style. This whole thing i'm doing on here is really new to me! i normally do surrealist or impressionist shit! this whole thing has been a ride.
