[ he very pointedly ignores kjell’s comment
about computers (because honestly, is he
supposed to know what those are?), and
moves to give the novel back until his
companion edges closer and suggests
that he’s scared. upon hearing this, he
retracts his hand and flips the book open
straight away, thumbing through the novel
until he reaches the pages in which frankenstein’s
creature is created. he hasn’t finished the
book yet, of course-- but he’s read a fair
portion of it so far, and he still wants to offer
up the thoughts that he has at the moment. ]
“It inspires a great deal of thought
about what it means to be human.”
[ turning to the section where frankenstein
and his creation meet for the second time,
he sucks his bottom lip between his teeth
and chews on it thoughtfully for a moment
as he scans through the page to refresh his
memory. ]
“The creature has feelings of anger
and rage, along with some sort of
strange appreciation of nature. He’s
eager to learn about the world, and
his anger is promoted by mankind’s
treatment toward him, which only
makes him seem more human. His
emotional changes from immense
loneliness, to rage, to appreciation,
show that he certainly has the moral
characteristics common to humans,
yet he is never classified as inherently
human. He certainly has human-like
tendencies, though-- he eats, he sleeps,
he thinks, he talks. Fire burns him, water
nourishes him.”
[ and yet, he’s not quite sure what his thoughts
are. perhaps he’ll have to finish the book before
he can attain a complete grasp on his viewpoint. ]
“Sometimes, he appears to be more of a
human than this Frankenstein fellow, but--
I suppose the same could be said in terms
of wizards and centaurs. Just because a
centaur acts like a human doesn’t mean
he is one. Frankenstein’s monster isn’t a
human in any technical terms... But,
perhaps his intellect is what fits him into
that category.”
[ he’s still looking down at the book. it’s quite
hard for him to stitch all of his words together
and turn them into discernible sentiments, so
lu soon chooses to take a break and turn the
casual interrogation on it’s head, instead.
propping his chin up on his hand, he inches
even closer to kjell, and fixes him with a
gaze that is just as challenging as the tone
of the brunette’s voice. ]
“And what are your thoughts?”
