So I've been seeing some anti-hate on my all time favorite Krumione tag lately and thought I'd shimmy on in and clear up a few things up for you guys because if I'm gunna have antis on my dash- they might at least be well informed.
As many people know, Viktor Krum is 18 years old in the goblet of fire. Hermione Granger is 15.
- So what does this mean?
It means that these are two characters with different ages in an innocent piece of fiction that JK Rowling wrote in a children's book.
- Come on, lots of children's stories had disgusting/dark relationships! This is obviously pedophilia!
Well kids, here's a fun fact:
1. Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children. Although girls typically begin the process of puberty at age 10 or 11, and boys at age 11 or 12, criteria for pedophilia extend the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13.
So unless Hermione traveled back to the age of thirteen when she met Viktor, we can check this one off as non applicable.
- But Viktor is still 18 years old for crying out loud! This is still obviously illegal!
Yay! Fun fact number two:
2. The ages of consent [sexual relations] vary by jurisdiction across Europe. The vast majority of countries set their ages in the range of 14 to 16; only five countries, Cyprus, Ireland, Malta, Turkey and Vatican, do not fit into this pattern.
So even though our dear Hermione and Viktor only danced a night at the ball and studied together as a couple, we now know the law could have entitled her to more, depending on Scotland's laws! *cue cheerful glittering rainbow here* The More You Know. *end glittering rainbow.*
- This is still disgusting. In America this is illegal and looked down upon.
