Word of warning, these are just my opinions. You do not have to agree with them.
It kinda bothers me how some people seem to see Dominator as a “heroic feminist” and Hater as a guy who should “learn to take no for an answer”.
I mean, did Dominator even say “no” to Hater? Before “My Fair Hatey”, they barely even interacted, and the last time they did interact, Dominator straight up pretended to fall for Hater’s advances. If Hater’s stupid crush really bothered her that much, wouldn’t she have rejected him? I think at worst she was mildly annoyed by his crush, and at best, she found it absolutely hilarious.
Putting that aside, yes, Hater’s stereotyped beliefs were idiotic and VERY annoying, but that’s the whole point. A large part of his character development revolved around him growing out of his immature assumptions about girls and becoming less self-centered.
In his three-part musical number in “My Fair Hatey, Hater revealed his new found maturity and how serious he is about pursuing a romantic relationship with Dominator, as well as how much he genuinely cares for her. Heck, he even calls her “The Greatest in the Galaxy”, something he’s never said about anyone besides himself. It really goes to show how far he’s come just for her and how far he’s willing to go.
Then of course, Dominator comes swinging in with “I’m The Bad Guy” and tears that pillar to the flarping ground.
A lot of fans seem to latch onto the first three lines of her villain song.
I’m not the damsel in distress,
Or the frightened princess…
And yes, while these lines do give off a feminist vibe, it’s important to note that the song is not calling Wander and Hater out for stereotypical beliefs, it’s calling them out for believing that Dominator was a good person. Dominator’s not a feminist. She does not give a crap about equal rights or gender stereotypes, all she gives a crap about is genocide and having power over others. In other words, SHE’S THE BAD GUY.
