i've seen a lot of drama in the fandom recently so i wanted to ask you personally- what are your opinions on otabek x yurio? do you ship it?
Oh, boy. I can already imagine the drama I’m going to create in doing this but here we go anyway.
I do ship Otabek and Yurio, I’m not going to lie.
HOWEVER, IN THEIR CANON STATES, I ONLY DO SO PLATONICALLY.
They are openly friends and they openly support each other. I honestly think that this is amazing as both characters can come off as certainly quite recluse- this friendship can only be beneficial in my eyes.
The thing is that I ship characters with other characters only if I see a strong connection between them over a prolonged period of time. I’ll pin it on being a demisexual as this is honestly the only way I know how to love someone- with a strong connection over time. With Viktor and Yuuri, for example, I believe it’s obvious how I see their connection and consequently why I openly ship it romantically; it’s fairly obvious I do so, no? Otabek and Yurio, however? Not so much. They have a connection, sure, but they simply haven’t known each other long enough for romance; not to mention Yurio is only fifteen. I’m not going to say the word explicit;y, but here is my allusion to it, and I will openly say that I do not condone it.
AGE THE CHARACTERS UP, THOUGH? Then I could see it; a potential relationship between the two. Despite how they don’t have much screen time together at all, I feel that their relationship, along with all of its inevitable ups and downs, can only truly go up.
Furthermore, they’re not like Viktor and Yuuri. They don’t live together, see each other daily, train with each other- that potential romance would take time, and with how stubborn we all now Yurio can be, I can honestly say that they would only get to a point that is romantic with each other by the time Yurio himself is into his adult years- that and they’re both likely to be too focused on their careers.
Another long response in which was unplanned and that I must apologise for. In summary, however, yes, I do, but only platonically until they have the deepness of their relationship and a mutual adulthood.
ps this is just my personal opinion i’m not going to bash you for yours if you ship it great if not equally great i’m just not on that boat- in return, i expect you not to bash me either
