Babe, you did the WRONG thing for the WRONG reason.
You can really tell who’s never experienced poverty and food insecurity when it comes to discussions around food costs and how unhealthy food is cheaper. Some fucker always comes in with the price of like… lettuce or… apples. And it’s like yeah bitch but can you work an 11 hour shift after eating some salad and an apple!?! Find me something cheaper, and more filling than the broke ass staples of boxed mac and cheese, hot dogs, noodles, bread, beans, and rice. I’ll wait.
It also ignores the mental toll that poverty takes like maybe your home made veggie filled recipe isn’t crazy expensive but it also involves prep time and cooking time and organization in terms of fresh food that a lotta poor people can’t manage.
Not to mention if you can only afford to get to the store once every couple weeks via bus or cab then you can’t keep fresh veg on deck.
But ya know.. poor people are just dumb and lazy.
The other tell (to me) that someone has never experienced poverty or food insecurity is when people are viscerally disgusted by the idea of eating anything past expiration date, God forbid food that was pulled out of the garbage.
I have probably eaten more free food than food I’ve paid for. Because I don’t care if it’s expired or from the trash, as long as it passes the look test, smell test, and taste test, it’s fine.
40% of food in this country literally just goes to landfills because it’s more profitable to destroy edible food that won’t sell than it is to give it away/heavily discount it before it goes out of date.
We could enormously cut down on both food waste and hunger if there were laws passed making extremely heavy discounts on nearly out of date food mandatory.

Another example of the writers blatant misunderstanding of Vi's core characteristics is calling her the "violent one" in opposition to Caitlyn's more cool headed temperament.
Strengh is Vi's greatest asset. It's what she uses to protect the people she cares about because in a place like Zaun, they have to utilize everything they have to survive. Vi by far, has the most fight scenes, but none of them are her acting on her temper and inflicting senseless violence. Throwing punches is not her knee-jerk reaction. Even during her first fight scene, where mind you, she's only 15, Vi only swings first because she knows her family is in danger.
Someone will come and argue that her fight with Sevika is her acting on emotions because she does literally knee her in the face, but it is still very much an equal fight. She doesn't strike when Sevika is down. Basic fighting etiquette still applies despite her personal feelings. The reason she searches for Sevika in the first place is because she wants information about Powder. Vi and Sevika are narrative foils (at least in season 1), Sevika stands in the way of all Vi is trying to achieve. Them clashing is not just out of Vi's want for revenge and the anger she holds.
Vi hitting Powder is the only non purposeful act of violence Vi inflicts, and it's only when she's faced with a very traumatic event.
When looking at both seasons as a whole, the contrast doesn't work, because who is the person who's shown prone to going to extremes, reacting with anger and violence as a response to being called out and opposed? Or just displaying unnecessary, unapologetic violence?
Yeah...
(Even though portraying Caitlyn as violent by the show is also a mischaracterization on writers part)
Looking at Vi as violent and hot tempered because "she fights a lot" is a very surface level way to look at her character, which is a reoccurring thing in the writing of season 2. Vi's display of violence is not brash and reckless. It's a tool. A tool she was taught to use because in Zaun, using everything in your disposal is a necessity. Even then, her fights are fair, often strategic. Vi doesn't just lash out on people as an emotional response, but seeing that required more than two second look at her character, which the writers apparently didn't wanna do.
People praising the show for giving Caitlyn an uncharacteristic dictator arc as if it didn't rob her of her actual characteristic detective skills. Arcane Cait is an awful detective. Let's take a look at some of her stellar performances:
1) She doesn't suspect Marcus of corruption even though he shut down the investigation into the Hexgate Shimmer smuggling and kept it a secret from Jayce. In fact, when Jayce shows confusion about the Hexgate smuggling incident, she responds with "keep up", instead of "Marcus didn't tell you, the creator of the Hexgate, about the smuggling operation that took place there? Strange." Later Ekko tells her point blank that enforcers are working for Silco and she refuses to even open her mind to the possibility, despite knowing of Marcus's shady behaviour. Marcus ominously blocks them on the bridge, Ekko tells her again no, and she once again ignores him, and signals him to show the gemstone to Marcus, which gets Ekko shot. Only when the gun is pointed directly at her face does she realize Marcus is corrupt. El Em Eff Ay Oh.
2) How about her investigation into Silco and Jinx? Let's see, Caitlyn goes to Stillwater to uncover the culprits behind the recent crimes in topside and... and... Vi just tells her point blank that it's Silco. Okay, but she still needs to actually find out the name Jinx right? What intelligent detective work does Caitlyn pull off? She... follows Vi around while Vi solves the case for her. Vi gets the lead from Jericho, Vi takes her to the brothel, then later Vi just. tells her the name she got from Sevika. Vi just tells Cait Jinx's name. Then proceeds to lead Caitlyn directly to Jinx. Ok. So Vi solved the Silco and Jinx case for Caitlyn. At least Caitlyn figured out that the Hexgate Shimmer smuggling and the Progress Day bombings were committed by the same person................. because Jinx kindly left her extremely distinctive graffiti everywhere at both crime scenes.
3) Okay but SURELY after realizing Marcus is corrupt, Caitlyn would connect the dots that he may have been lying all along about how Grayson died? You know, Grayson, her beloved mentor, who mysteriously died brutally in the Undercity, after which she was succeeded by her corrupt second-in-command who works for Shimmer kingpin Silco? Does Caitlyn put 2 and 2 together and realize that whatever account Marcus gave of Grayson's death was false? Nope, because the show completely forgets about Grayson.
4) Okay, now it's Season 2's turn. Renni attacks the supposedly highly secure memorial. The Councilors discuss how this could have happened and conclude that she must have had help from a traitor amongst their ranks who wants to stoke the flames of war. Caitlyn shows up boasting about being a decorated officer. And she doesn't suspect Ambessa, the Noxian warlord who is very invested in the militarization of Hextech and the person in the room who would benefit the most from all-out war between Piltover and Zaun. Caitlyn will end up as Ambessa's protégé for months after this and the memorial attack will never be mentioned again.
5) Caitlyn then gets seduced by Noxian spy Maddie and bangs her for months, never once suspecting her. I mean, maybe Maddie really is just that good, but I still find it hilarious that this is the SECOND time Caitlyn realizes one of the enforcers is corrupt only when they point a gun directly at her head. This you, Cait?
6) Caitlyn spends months enacting martial law in Zaun and relentlessly searching every nook and cranny for Jinx. MONTHS. And she is never able to find her despite Jinx spending her time playing bug battles at home. When Jinx is finally arrested, it's because she surrendered.
7) Well, at least she figured out that Singed summoned Warwick to the prison.................... because Singed kindly stayed behind in his cell to get caught. Man, all these criminals are so kind to do Caitlyn's job for her <3
The ONLY mystery she actually solves entirely on her own without getting the answers literally handed to her, is that Singed is Corin Reveck. And even with that she inherited half the information in her mother's archives. Arcane Cait has the shrewdness and cunning of a 12-year-old. Almost every single mystery she faces either gets forgotten about (who let Renni in the memorial, how did Grayson die), or gets solved by another character (Vi tells her about Silco and Jinx, Ekko tells her about Marcus). Almost all the criminals she faces willingly expose themselves to her (Marcus and Maddie), or willingly get caught (Singed and Jinx). The show strips Caitlyn of her canonical strength from the game (her sharp detective mind), to force her into an unnecessary dictator role that demands her brain be smooth enough to get easily manipulated by Ambessa.
"She deserves her Dyketator era" and does Dyketective mean nothing to you?
"Oh, you think having a wealth gap makes a couple inherently toxic? Sounds like YOU'RE the classist!"
That's a sentiment I see Caitvi superfans use a lot. It dulls down the discussion surrounding what makes Caitvi so unhealthy by the time the show's reached its end. But that's not where the criticism inherently comes from, so I kinda wanted to make a post about it to untangle the webs of what I believe makes Caitvi's "happy" ending ring hollow from a narrative standpoint, as well as why so many in the critical tags see it to be upholding an unhealthy power dynamic rooted in classism.
Babe, you did the WRONG thing for the WRONG reason.
im really annoyed with the lesbians who are like you couldnt even handle caitlyn kiramman and im like im SORRY I dont like the cop lesbian who used poisonous gas on poor people and called them animals and then said her girlfriend who is also one of those poor people was just like them. I dont fucking CARE that her mom died. it was a huge mask off moment and also im sick of lesbian cop characters in general also we can recognize shes a complex character and realize she is not actually *good* representation
she's privileged and classist and a damn cop who enacted a war crime on poor people and I dont CARE if "they were criminals" dont piss me off
vi baby find a better girlfriend. I'll treat you right 💔
it would have been BETTER to see her give up her badge after realizing how poorly the system actually treated the undercity
"you're not a real lesbian if you dont like caitvi" sorry I dont fuck with republicans even if they're women who eat box
lets talk about how caitlyn actually spit in the face of her mom's legacy by using the poison gas on the under city after her mom put those vents in place
and then she got away with it 😭💔
Watch this unhinged mongoose gaslight baby blue and the audience into believing their crimes are on the same level in real time.
caitivs: caitlyn sleeping with maddie isnt a big deal! people sleep around when they're upset all the time! and she's turned maddie into a faceless fleshlight and is thinking about vi the whole time anyway even though there's no indication that that's the case! also fuck maddie for being the one cait slept with i hope vi beats the shit out of her and...OOP whats this?? she died horribly??? yaaaay she deserved it for doing the same shit caitlyn did!!!
also caitvis: why are you shipping vi with another woman?? she only belongs with caitlyn! it makes her look so disloyal! i know its not canon but i still got my funky ass panties in a twist about it because i only see vi as cait's propertyyy!!!!
idk what people gain from defending vi for being written horribly...and telling people they "arent really fans of vi" for calling it out
i could never grow to hate her character and never will because i know it was written poorly and in the end she WAS turned into a lapdog for fuck sake did we not watch the same show??? they had her not say a single genuine word of care to her own fucking sister who's been locked up as long as she's been out, whos not been eating and who's dirty, not even having something as simple as a blanket or matress for comfort, and instead have her talk about helping the people that hurt and oppressed them...after her so called "lover" joined a warlord and oppressed their people for six months...you see how that shit makes no sense? having enough common sense to know thats bullshit isnt "being a fake fan" its actually giving a shit about vi's character and wanting better for her...she's ready to kill her own sister over a fucking crime against their oppressors but is ready to go down on the dictator who kept that oppression going??? DO YOU SEE HOW THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO DAMN SENSE???
and they always of course chock wanting her care for jinx to be consistent up to "you dont want her to do anything for herself!" mf jinx GREW UP! she doesnt have to baby her anymore and giving a fuck about your own kin doesnt mean you dont care about your own needs dear god...
there were no complexities to her character, she was reduced to a vehicle for a fucking ship, her trauma spat on reduced to DRAMA for said ship...yall are gonna stop acting like she wasnt done dirty and that people who wanted better for her character instead of giving her this shallow cheap writing are "fake".
lying to yourself and trying to bend over backwards for what is clearly lack of care and consideration for her writing is fake fan behavior more than anything...stop acting like her being metaphorically beat up and spat on by these centrist writers is something we should all be defending.
“Why is Caitlyn using the gray criticized but Jinx bombing the council isn’t?”
Because when you have all the socioeconomic power and resources there are worse implications from you using them. People in power SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD to prevent ABUSES OF POWER.
Again: Government officials and people put in charge of things should be held to a higher standard. That’s why a rich politician pocketing campaign funds is worse than a person struggling to feed their family shoplifting.
I think the thing I hate the most about Caitlyn is her stans. They preach about how people can’t handle morally gray characters but when someone points out something they didn’t like about Caitlyn they will bend over backwards to try and defend her. You say you don’t like how she gassed the chembarons or hit Vi and they will throw excess after excuse to show that she’s innocent or worse, just insult you or call you racism for having a different opinion. You can have a well-written morally gray character(and in my opinion, Season 2 Caitlyn isn’t) and still have people dislike them for valid reasons. I would legit have more respect for Caitlyn fans if they actually accept that yeah, Caitlyn did bad things and owned up to it instead of trying to examine every corner that she did no wrong. Because like the morally gray character you say she is, she did do things wrong.
SPEAK YOUR TRUTHHHHH!!!!
This only just came to mind, but I was scrolling on tiktok and found a vi edit, and her mother was in it.
And I found it quite disturbing that caitvi fans find the comparison of Vi's mother and Caitlyn who look similar, in which I sure as hell don't, to be somewhat "healthy" and cute for Vi and how it's only mentioned once in the entirety of their dynamic.
Why is is that Felicia, Vi's own mother, who was KILLED by the very oppressive system that Caitlyn works and represents, is being compared to the woman who's at the center of that very problem.
"Felicia and Connol would support Vi's relationship with Caitlyn and would adore her as their own!" ....Mother fucker be SOOOOOO fucking fr right now.
We can collectively agree that we can't say shit about HOW they would, because we don't even know that much about them or their personalities aside from the fact Felicia has more characteristics linked to Jinx, or that they fought in a war for change, FOR their daughters.
But I can sure as fuck say that they wouldn't like the fact that Vi is with an OPPRESSOR who literally embodies the very thing they fought against and DIED to. And it's quite sickening they take the opportunity to romanticise the fact they look alike.
"It's not that deep" I fear it is gng
The fact that Amanda has collectively made this narrative, THROUGH CAITLYN AND VI, that "oppressors are people too" and that it's okay to be a bootlicker if they strip you of eveything you are, your identity, your own dignity, etc, is nothing because the rich will give you everything you were robbed by, is actually fucking gross.
Vi shouldn't have to leave her home for the sake of Caitlyn's own consequences and "accoplishments" that she only preserved for herself.
So no, despite not even knowing much about Vi's own parents, I think we can all collectively agree that no the fuck they wouldn't like Caitlyn, nor how their little girl was treated by her.
