(23/09/2025) Up until now, I've been unknowingly using AAVE vocabulary thinking that it was internet slang. I'm putting this out here because I don't feel comfortable saying nothing-- I'm posting on the internet and a couple of my posts get seen by others. I don't want to continuously propagate word appropriation that ends up harming minorities (black and black queer communities in this context).

I started learning about this thanks to Lani's lens and her video called "The Evolution of Vulture Culture" (I really recommend this video AND her channel) and then afterwards, Adam Aleksic/etymologynerd's book titled Algospeak, specifically the chapter "It's Giving Appropriation".

Also please let me know if I unknowingly use some phrases/words that I shouldn't be using, thank you!

I love this creator and just from this pitch alone I'm sold. He describes that he wanted to create a more slice-of-life animated comedy about a Black couple that really hinges on how much they love and respect each other, citing other hit shows like Bob's Burgers as part of the inspiration. This launch trailer shows the theme song (which is beautiful by the way) and the utterly adorable designs <3 The whole team is putting in 110% so PLEASE go check out the launch trailer, leave a nice comment, and maybe send some money to the Kickstarter if you're feeling generous.

We need more Black voices in the indie animation space, especially in the wake of spikes of anti-Blackness and racism cropping up. And again, it's a project made with a lot of love with some real talent behind it- so go check it out for that alone.

Hair update for Valerie :D I had intuition for the original drawing, that I can give credit to my old self, but it really made no sense ngl. This revision was kind of based on how I've been trying to deal with my hair nowadays, and I noticed that my hair would bend like that with hairclips. The hair that was behind my ears would also come forth which is also similar to Valerie's. + Finally coming up with something that I'm satisfied with for Kai ! Designing this guy was a lot of struggling because I would keep being hindered by the little details instead of focusing on the bigger picture.

I saw this online, and thought it was really cool because it really shows how Black Americans' way of speaking has always found its way into pop culture, even in the 1930s, that someone would have to make a list of words and definitions for understanding (and even that some are still the same or modified!) Which ones have you heard?
