Masterlist I Chapter 2
L O G U E T O W N.
Looking up at the platform, you couldn't believe the history. It makes your blood rush. This was really the end of the Pirate King.
You stared, trying to picture the infamous laugh before his last breath. Accounts said it was a booming laugh, unable to tell any fear or sadness. He seemed to die a man with no regrets.
5 seconds passed by.
âAlright.â You whispered to yourself. Adjusting your head wrap, you moved away, starting to walk back, ready for food, exhausted after a long morning of staring.
As you near a restaurant, you hear yelling. Rushing over to the noise, you see a young man. Eating a woman's bread that leaned out of her hand. She had eyes wide open and a mouth so wide it could catch flies. The boy in a red vest talked with his mouth full. â âOld piratesâ with the -tes making spit and food crumbs spray over the poor lady. You walked closer to them, tapping the boyâs shoulder.
He ignored you.
[âŠ]
More tapping, he continued to ignore. Or maybe didn't feel.
Continuing on about the age of Pi-rates. As the woman tried to edge away with her half-baguette.
âI can take you there.â
âMpmh!â
He blinked, staring.
âWho are you?â
You laughed. Pointing at yourself, eyes closing, giving a gentle smile.
âJust a fan of pirates!â
He brightened up.
âMe too! I'm gonna be king of the pirates.â
He said, bouncing on his feet, clutching his straw hat with a wide smile.
âLucky me then! I never met a king before!â
He smacked your shoulder as he laughed. The smacks made you wince and lean a bit, but your smile never left. Adjust your scarf again.
âShihihi! I like you. What's your name?â
â[Name]. And what is the name of the future king of pirates?â
âMonkey D. Luffy!â
Now you couldnât help but laugh. Holding it in for a while now. It was infectious with his attitude.
âWell, I should show a future king the history of a past king. To the scaffold?â
Throwing a fist in the air. "Oohh! Let's go!â He starts running ahead of you.
You turn to the woman who was âtalkingâ to Luffy before. Quickly grab your coin purse, taking out enough bells for bread. Handing it to the women, both of you almost dropping in a rush and awkward chuckles. âSorry.â You gave a small smile and head nod.
Hearing a loud âoi!â He was waving his hands for your attention. Yelling out âComing!â You run after Luffy, laughing.
â
Luffy slowed down to walk instead, not caring what was ahead of him, unafraid of walking into something or someone. Only looking at you.
âWhy are you hiding your face? You ugly or something?â
âHmm? Maybe I have a pirate eye patch?â
âWooo!â He moved in front of you before you could blink. Shoving his face in yours as you move back a bit. âLet me see!â You can see sparkle in his eyes; he seems to be gullible. Perfect for your mischievous nature.
âWell, alright, but I'll only show you in a private place. Just the two of us.â Holding two fingers up with a grin.
âEh, alright.â Turning back to move his arms behind his head. His mood changed quickly.
âTell me about your crew.â He started bouncing on his feet again.
âThere's Zoro! He's a cool swordsman and my first mate! Then there's Nami, she's our navigator, but a pretty good thief too! Usopp, shihihiâ Laughing by himself in what seems to be reminiscing in memories. âHe's a funny guy. And our sharpshooter. Oh! Sanji is our cook; he makes the best meat!"Â
For the first time, he slouched and seemed to be in a mood. Clutching his stomach. âI wish I had meat right now!â
You pat his back. âI'll invite you to eat out."
He straightened up in a flash. âHuh? Seriously? Let's go now!â Grabbing your wrist, but you stay still. unsure where he was going, chuckling, expecting his stop.
Why wasn't he stopping?
Why was his arm so long?
Why could you feel sweat drip down your face?
You bit your lip to keep your body and voice in control. Reminding you where you are.
You hear his shoes clicking away from you. As commotion from surprise starts to surround you. To get his attention, you pull hard on his arm.
âHuh? What's wrong?â shouting across the street.
âWhat do you think?â yell bystanders.
You didn't want to yell, but he was clearly occupied by the yells. Some were a bit frightened. You wanted his attention and did the only thing you thought. Opening his hand up.
Gently. âTickle, Tickle.â
âWahahaha!â Immediately, you felt his arm shaking. Walking forward, you observed the people were calmed now, mostly odded out. As you reach him, he was clutching his stomach from laughter and his legs swinging around.
Reaching him, you give a final âtickle, tickle.â Before letting go, staring at his stretched arm snapped back to normal. You get down to his level, cupping your scarfed face.
âLuffy, where do you want to go first? Food? Or the scaffold?â
He turned serious for a moment, leaning back on his hands, humming out.
Jumping up when he had an answer.
âI wanna see the scaffold!â
You grabbed his arm, now running.
âCome on then!â
â
Reaching the site, you stop far enough to see the whole view.
âThe execution scaffoldâŠâ
He stood still. âThat's it. That's where Gold Roger⊠was executed. The greatest pirate of all time died tight there.â
It felt like it was only him and that spot. In his own world.
âThis is where the great age of pirates began.â
The moment ended when Luffy turned to you. âLet's go see it closer!â
âMm, alright le-â a stretchy arm wrapped around your waist. Flinching in shock as a tear drops from your eye when you see him position himself.
âGum gum stretch.â
An arm whipped back before grabbing the top of the scaffold. People around you only gasped in shock as the two of you flew. Slouched over you only leave âeepâ from your lips.
Wind flew past you, flinging your head scarf off. Air left you from the pain of the awkward position Luffy left you in on top of the scaffold. Scrambling to reapply your scarf on your head and face.
âWow!â
Luffy lifted his hat from his neck to his head once again. Enjoying the view.
âSo this is what the king of pirates saw just before he died!â
Huffing out, you looked down as hundreds of people looked at the two of you.
A crackling noise of a megaphone appeared.
âHey, you two! Get down from there immediately!â
âWhy?â A deadpan Luffy said. He got a roar of laughter from the crowd.
âThat's the special execution scaffold! It's under the jurisdiction of the world government!! Come down right now!â
âLuffy.â You said in a gentle tone.
âHuh?â
âDid you have your fun? Should we go eat now? I'm getting hungry.â
He looked out for a moment more. Both of you are ignoring the yells and laughter from below. Once he had taken it in, he looked back at you.
âShihihi, youâre a handful. Let's go eat!â Again, wrapping his arm around you, he grabbed the edge of the scaffold, using it to swing you both down. The officer rushed over to scold you.
âDo you two have any idea how much trouble you're in? That's government property, you can't touch it!!â
âHuh? Who are you?â He turned over, picking his nose.
âPay attention!â
You giggle, moving in front of the officer.
âWe're sorry. We were just excited. We're fans of the history.â
He huffed.
âSorry doesn't excuse what you did.â
Luffy was walking away.
âHey! Come back!â
.
..
âŠ
He wasn't coming back.
âHEYY!â
You grabbed his hand, gripping it tightly as he turned around.
Bowing, holding the hands near your face.
âI'm sorry, we were just excited. Truly, I apologize, we won't do it again.â You started bowing, repeatedly going so fast you were becoming a blur.
The man, sweating, was stumbling back. You grip, keeping him there. He tried to pull his hand away. Your grip kept him there.
Finally, lifting your head up, you showed your best smile show with yours.
âPlease forgive us!â
âAlright, no problem!â Nodding with a bit of a blush. Once you let go, he stumbled back as you clapped your hands together, brightening. âThank you so much!â
The man mumbled out a response, but you were off after Luffy waved goodbye.
â
You ran for a bit, not seeing the straw hat or hearing the commotion before.
âBang, bangâ
âOi, [name]!â But it came muffled from the glass. Mostly from the meat in his mouth.
Entering the restaurant, you order a meal at the front and ask for no disturbance with an added tip. At Luffy's table, you see it was filled to the brim with food. Surprisingly empty plates as well.
âEnjoying the food, Luffy?â
âYeah, everything is delicious!â Stuffing his face, he paused face turned stern. âBut you can't have any.â Laughing as you picked a sweet up, bowing your head to eat it. âWasn't planning to.â Luffy continued. âHaha, good.â He stopped. âHey!â You laugh as a waiter brings your food. Picking the meat to put on Luffy's plate.
âHuh?â He quickly puts it in his mouth.
âForgiven?â
âYouâre forgiven.â
â
After eating in peace and watching Luffy turn into a balloon. You had paid the long tab, only left with your drinks.
âShihihi,â Lufy pats his stomach. âThanks [name]!â
âNo, problem!â You felt comfortable showing Luffy your face, leaning away from the window.
âHm?â He leaned in and then went over the table. âWow, you really do have an eye patch!â
You placed your chin on your fist
âHehehehi, I got a small cut above my eye.â
His eyes bulge out. âThat's so boring.â
âBut don't you wanna know how I got it?"
âHow?â
He leaned close
âFightingâŠâ
He crept closer.
âA bird.â
âWhoa, a monster bird?â
âNo, a seagull.â
âHuh! What a scam.â
âHehehehi,â covering your mouth to laugh. âTo be fair, seagulls are ferocious. You shouldn't underestimate them.â You sigh, slouching a bit. Cheek now lying on your hand. âA bird took me down so easily, but pirates I can fight easily.â Looking at him with a cheeky grin.
âSeriously?â
âMm, I'm entering the grand line alone, so I've got to protect myself.â
âWe're going to the Grand Line too!â
âAs expected of the future king.â You lean back, opening your bag, and grab a pack of cards.
âHow about I teach you something to play with your crew! When you're bored out at sea.â
âOhh, what is it?â
You take out the cards before you begin your explanation. A better way to capture Luffy's attention.
âIt's called Joker.â You started shuffling the deck before pulling tricks. Seeing Luffy clap and shout in amazement.
âSince itâs just us two well have half and half.â You easily straighten the deck pile from Luffy's clumsy grabs.
âYosh!â
âNow find 2 cards of the same color and number.â
âHaha,â he slammed two cards, a 2 hearts and 2 diamonds. He took the 2 thing seriously.
âI'm pretty good at this game!â
âThe game hasn't started.â
âWhat?â He blinked up from his cards as he made another pair.
âDid you find all your pairs?â
âIsn't that boring?â
âA bit, how about we see who's fastest?â
âYouâre on!â
Adjusting your scarf to cover your face again as Luffy slammed the cards, drawing attention.
It went by in a blur as people looked over at the noise; a few even clapped.
At the end, you won. Cheering as others clapped for you. While Luffy,
âDon't pout, Luffy.â
His face turned strange, his eyes no longer looked at you, and his lips took a duck beak-like shape.
âI'm not pouting.â His eyes went everywhere but on yours.
âAlright, I believe you. It's not like the game is over yet.â
He brightened up, you're not sure from the game not being over, you believing the lie, or both.
You pause, thinking of the shortest way to explain to Luffy.
âEach turn, you will pick one of my cards.â
Keeping the backside facing him, you move 2 cards from your deck. And two from the completed pair piles. Flipping them around your fingers to impress him.
âWow.â
You huffed in pride.
âTry to find a card that matches yours. You keep the card even if it doesn't.â
In ode to the dramatics, you stopped flipping the cards for the reveal.
âWhen the cards run out, the person with the Joker loses." You smile a sly grin.
âGot it?â
âYep, two cards, clown guy, you lose.â He looked at you with an earnest and serious face. Putting his all into the game. A childrenâs game. It made you fluster with excitement.
He stretched his arm to grab a card. He clearly didn't get what he wanted as he grumbled.
A few other things you noted, even if you knew you had the joker your could easily see when Luffy had gotten it from his shocked face. He easily showed when you hovered over his cards what the card was. He was down when you lingered over a regular card and quickly shifted to happiness over a joker.
You took the joker several times as he cheered and laughed at your misfortune.
Nearing the end of the game, two cards were left, and Luffy had the Joker.
You paused the game, which was fun, but Luffy was clearly a bad liar. And he was really into the game. Every time he made an annoyed face when your hand was over the Joker. His brightness was adorable. Should you let him win?
No.
You swiftly swipe the other card, forming the final pair. Voicing a small yay at your victory, as Luffy yelled out in despair.
Laughing, you picked up the cards to place back in the box as Luffy continued to wallow.
âLuffy here.â He looked, finding the deck of cards at his face.
âTo remember me by.â
He grabbed the deck. âEspecially how I kicked your butt twice.â Giving him a teasing face. Suprinsgly, he didnât make a comment at your taunt.
â[Name], join my crew.â
âAlright, why not?â
âHaha, yahoo!â
You got up, giving a hand to Luffy.
âShould we meet up with the crew, Captain?â
He grabbed your hand, lifting himself off his seat.
âShihihi, let's go!â
â
You took Luffy to the scaffold; it's what he told his crew he would be at. Leaving him to grab your things before heading off. Telling him you meet him and to ânot to get into any trouble, captain.â He laughed, saying he should be telling you that.
By the time you came out, the clouds had darkened as thunder rumbled in. You ran to the town center.
Entering on a Luffy trapped on the scaffold with Buggy, the clown holding a sword over his head.
You heard your name come from his lips, then his crew.
âSorry. I'm a goner.â
And he laughed.
He laughed.
Yells continued when lightning struck.
Unfortunately, it wasn't an idea. The scaffold was now on fire. Rain pouring. You see a straw hat flutter to the ground. Hearing whispers of âhe's alive?!â Then the clacking of sandals. You could finally see Luffy, his head swiveling around. âOi, [name]!â Two men appeared at his side. One with very green hair and three swords, the other with a cigarette and a suit.
âLuffy, we need to go!â
âNot without [name], she said should be here.â
âOi-
âWe can't leave a lady lost, mosshead.â
âYou don't even know her.â He yelled out As he clashed with the man in the suit despite pirates behind them.
You nudge through the crowd, shouting for your captain's name. He quickly turned to you. At what, this point felt for routine for you, stretching his hand out to grab you.
âYouâre here! Took you long enough.â
âOf course, captain.â
âWhat a cutie!â
âLet's get going, already!â
Now, you, your hand in your captain's, and your new crewmates run away. And Marines chasing you.
âThe winds are picking up.â The green-haired man said.
âThe guys sure are persistent. Wanna stop and fight âem?â
âWe don't have time! Nami told us to hurry back to the ship!â Somehow, he turned around running while his back was facing front. He clasped his hands near his face, and it seemed like heart eyes appeared.
âBut if the lovely lady would like me to carry her. I would be happy to! âĄâ
He looked at Luffy's and your hands intertwined.
âWhat are you doing?! Take your hands off her!â
âHuh? Why?â
You laughed, the man in the suit swooned, going on about your voice.
âYour friend is sweet, Luffy.â Shooting the man a finger heart.
Again, he swooned, as Luffy laughed, but the swordsmanâŠ
âOi, focus.â
âShut up, you oaf.â
The conversation stopped at the shouting of a swordswoman up ahead.
âRoronoa Zoro!â
âHey! âĄâ
âI could get jealous.â
He flustered, surprisingly turning a bit shy.
"Donât be jealous, my sweet!â
âMaster Chief Tashigi!â
You two had ignored what was happening around you.
âYou're Zoro! You didnât tell me you were a pirate! You were making fun of me! I won't stand for it.â
âWhat did you do to that girl!â
Zoro ignored him.
âWell, you never told me you were in the navy!â
âI'm going to take Wano Ichimonji away from you!â
You can hear his grin.
âLet's see you.â
They came into a clash. Luffy continued to run with you with the words from Zoro.
âGo ahead.â
âOkay.â
âHeâs attacking a girl!â
âCome on.â
Luffy grabbed Sanji by the collar neck making him continue to run. A man appeared at the far end of the road.
âHey! Who's that guy?â
âNot again.â
âSo it's you, Strawhat Luffy.â
âWho are you?â
âThe names Smoker.â
The cigar man moved to position himself to fight.
âCaptain Smoker of the Navy. And I'm not letting you get away!â
His arms changed to smoke, shooting out towards grabbing Luffy. The smoke grabbed Luffy as he yelled out in surprise.
The suit man ran towards Smoker.
âDarn you, you fiend.â
Kicking what would be Smokerâs face, but fell through his smoke body. As he was distracting Smoker, you pulled a long knife from your bag, slicing through the two smoke arms holding Luffy. Focusing on the movement of your bag around your body to swing as much air as it could. Forcing bits of smoke away as you pull Luffy away from Smoker to get some ground.
âYou alright, captain?â
He made a firm nod.
But the gentleman and your efforts seemed pointless as he was punched far away.
Luffy yelled out for his crewmate.
âSanji! Why youâŠâ He swung his arm back.
âGum-Gum pistol!â
It went through Smokerâs body. As the smoke traveled behind you two.
âYou're the one worth 30 million berries?â
He reappeared, clutching tightly to Luffy's head. Before you could think, another smoke arm blasted you away.
Damn, he packed a good punch. You didnât land far away; you rose quickly. Not moving when you saw a cloaked man over Smoker and Luffy.
You couldnât hear a single word over the pounding rain. And pelting you so hard it was hard to see the details of the face.
You did see him look up at you. Shouting out the words for you to see and hear. âWind blast!â
The wind was so strong that it quickly picked you up. Being hit by all sorts of objects.
âow" Smack âoowâ Smack, smack. Grabbing the nearest pole, flying like a flag. Finally, thinking you were safe. When a literal man smacked into you. âOKAY ENOUGH!â
It did.
So quickly.
Without a landing.
You could shed a tear.
You probably did.
Smack!
That really hurt, but you felt the gentleness of someone's hands picking you up. Looking up, you find Sanji looking down at you.
â[Name]-swan, I'll protect you!â He says kicking a man on the ground who was near you away.
You giggle fist covering your mouth. âMy knight in shining armor!â
He practically melts. His knees were buckling a bit before standing straight. With a wide smile, he starts running as Zoro grabs Luffy. Shouting out something you couldnât hear, and Sanji clearly wasn't listening to. Every once in a while, look at you, then return to looking up.
â
The four of you finally arrived at a ship with two people shouting at your group.
âLUFFY!â
A long-nosed man was holding tightly onto a rope connecting the boat to the port.
âHurry! Hurry! The rope won't hold much longer.â
âNami, I'm back!â Nami shouted back.
âYou slowplokes! Hurry and get on board, we're leaving!â
As your group got closer, they finally saw you in Sanjiâs arms. They squealed.
âWHO IS THAT!?!â
âDID YOU KIDNAP SOMEONE!?!â
Luffy laughed, stretching his arm to reach the rail.
âShe's my nakama!â
âHuh!!â The two looked at you.
Zoro jumped to the rail, getting on board. Sanji, as delicately as he could, moved you to one of his arms.
âHold on tigh-â You wrapped your arms around his neck. He stumbled a bit.
â[name]-swan! âĄâ It seemed you gave him a newfound energy as he used his legs to jump on the ship. Even as everyone was running around to sail, the storm was by no means kind. Sanji took his time to set you down in a way to not let the rocking ship make you fall. You patted his arm. âThank you, Sanji!â
âNo problem [Name]! You call upon me anytime!â
*âOi, cook. Stop flirting its pathetic.â
A shout stopped them from fighting.
âEnough! You shouldn't be shouting in front of our new crewmate like that.â
âIf she can't handle this, she shouldn't be here.â
Sanji took a swing at him with a kick.
âDONâT TALK ABOUT NAMI AND [NAME] LIKE THAT!â
You and Nami ignore the pair fighting. âI'm sorry your first experience on the ship is during this storm. There's nothing else for us to do but keep on sailing forward.â
You shrugged with an easy-going flow. âNo worries. What can be done?â
Usopp came up to you. He was shaking a bit from the nerves of being in the storm. âYou're pretty calm for this experience.â He rubbed his nose. âUnderstandable, being under Captain Usopp's presence.â
âHaha, I just think I have pretty good luck. Nothing to worry about.â Waving your hand in assurance.
A large fish came out of a roaring wave and slapped your head. Then a wave knocks you over. You groaned.
âYOU CLEARLY DONâT!â They shouted. Two out of the other three members laughed at your comedy show. While Sanji kicked the fish towards the open door of the ship to grill it. For, in his words, punishment for harming you. At the point you would assume he would have fought the wave too if not for his priority to help you up. Fretting over you.
âAre you alright [Name]?â Nami said.
âMhm, no need to worry, Nami.â
She giggled a bit at you.
Luffy moved to be next to you, wrapping an arm around you. For an official greeting.
âYosh! Meet [Name]! She's a handful but has cool tricks!â
Immediately, he got whacked on the head by Nami. And yelled at by the crew.
âLike you should talk!â
Nami huffed. The heated look melted away when she looked at you.
"It's nice to finally have another girl on the crew. Whatâs your position?â
âNo, clue! ~âżâ
âUh.â She stared back at you with wide eyes.
You heard the voice of Zoro calling out to your captain. âLuffy, there must have been a reason you asked her on the crew.â
âI told ya, she's pretty good at card tricks and games! She beat me!â
âThat's not an accomplishment for you!â
âThat's not what makes a pirate!â
Wham!
âPoor Luffy.â
âI assure you, Zoro, I am capable of taking care of myself."
He was quietly looking for you for a moment before giving a small smirk.
âNah, you can rely on us now.â
Your eyes widen seeing your crew⊠Your friends? All smiling at you.
In your culture, rain was a sign of your luck. You think you're starting to understand now. Of what your future looks like.
You remove the part of the scarf that was covering most of your face. Smiling at them. Luffy, surprise, surprise, laughs as he comments, âOh, that's what you look like.â Zoro is quiet but with a smile. Nami, Sanji, and Usopp give the biggest reaction. Nami and Usopp stare at you in shock, and a few comments about your beauty.
âWow, a goddess.â
Sanji was the biggest reaction. He stumbled back, hitting the shipâs rail, a cigarette falling out, before he went crashing down to his knees. Practically turning to stone. âYou're so beautiful!!!â
âWow, Sanji turned to stone.â
Now unfazed, Nami comes up to you, patting your shoulder.
âYou're pretty cute, [Name]! Why were you hiding your face?â
Shrugging a bit, you responded.
"Some people get a little weird over my looks. Too focused on it. It could get uncomfortable.â
A squiggly Sanji passes by. You focused on Nami. âSanji is an exception, of course.â
She shook her head. âIf he acts weird or a creep comes toward you, tell me, and I'll knock him straight for âya.â Showing you her fist with a wink and a sparkle.
Laughing with gratitude as you squeezed her hand as a quiet thank you. It did feel nice to be with another girl.
âAnyways, weâll find something for you to do! In the meantime, why did you want to come to Grand Line?â
âAre we seriously having this conversation in the middle of the storm!!â
Usopp yelled out.
âWhat else are we supposed to do?â Nami said.
Usopp was still thinking of an answer.
âJeez, be confident if your navigator. I've got this.â Returning to look at you sweetly to continue your conversation.
âI read a story from when I was a kid.â You gained their attention, surprising them with a vulnerability.
âIt was about a fairy leaving her home after feeling stuck in her homeland. Making friends with a human, they became adventurers. In the stories, they were always discovering new things, species, and people. I thought, what could I find out there?â
You looked up, letting the cold rain wash your face to cool you. Unable to face your crew in an admittedly childish dream.
âThe way the fairy spoke, how she felt alive in these adventures. The happiness was never-ending, especially with her friends. It was⊠magical. I couldnât understand that feeling, but I wanted to.â
Finally getting the courage to look at them. They had no ill listening intently with smiles. Now you wanted to look away again for a different reason.
âShihihi, see she's perfect! We're going to have so much fun!â
Suddenly, you notice a light on the waves sweeping over to the ship. Glancing over to its source.
âThe lighthouse.â You said.
Nami moved to the front of the ship.
âThat's the guiding light. Beyond that light is the entrance to the Grand Line.â
Turning towards you all. âSo, what's it gonna be?â
Sanji grabbed a barrel putting in the middle of everyone.
âOkay, let's launch this ship into the great ocean!!â
Once again, Usoppâs voice wobbled while spouting his worries.
âDo we have to do this in the middle of a storm?â
âALL RIGHT!â
Luffy shouted. Sanji kicks his leg for the heel of the shoe to land on top of the barrel.
âI'm going to find the All Blue.â
Luffy swung his leg next. Gritting his teeth.
âI'M GOING TO BE KING OF THE PIRATES!â
Zoro followed the lead of his captain.
âI'm going to be the greatest swordsman!â
Nami went next.
âI'm going to draw a map of the world!
Finally was Usopp.
âI'm going to become a great warrior of the sea.â
They were looking at you. You waved them in assurance. âI couldn't possibly. I just joined. This seems too personal.â
âNonsense, I've only joined the crew not that long ago.â Sanji have you a reassuring smile.
âYeah, [Name]. I wasn't even the crew officially until a few days ago.â
You raised a brow at that.
She giggled, sticking her tongue out with a wink. âI'll tell you later.â
Usopp pointed at himself with his thumb. âListen to your Captain and join in!â
âHey, I'm the captain here!â
Flailing his arms amazingly without falling.
Then he looked at you.
âWhatâs the problem [Name]?â
You couldnât come up with a response when they were so open in welcoming you.
Zoro sighed with a small smile.
âJust join in already. No use in fighting.â
You were feeling hot.
And so with the rain as your background, you walked closer. Finally, lift your leg to the barrel. With excited eyes on you as you let out a shout.
âI'm going to explore every inch of this world!â
They cheered for you. Another wave crashed into the ship when Luffy yelled.
âGRAND LINE, HERE WE COME!!â

Returning home in a tizzy. Despite being tired from the debut, being able to speak our minds freely caused excitement again for you, your sisters, and your mother.
âYou absolutely sparkled, sister!â
âCome now, I merely simpered and minced in a pretty dress like everyone else.â
Francesca pursed her lips, looking at everyone before stepping toward Eloise.
âNot exactly like everyone else.â
Eloise, who was sitting leaning back in her chair in her unladylike manner, with her lips slightly parted and furrowed brows written on her face, staring out the window.
âI shall need to go and visit with Penelope. Her presentation was anything but... What was it the Queen called you againââ
â--Flawless. Or some such thing.â Daphne was stepping out of her dress, vibrating with excitement.
âTrust I was astonished Her Majesty offered me, out of two hundred young ladies present, a most gracious remark.â Leave it to Daphne to seem graciously humble. But Daphne had a right to it. She had a quiet way where you didn't even realize you were enchanted by her. If only she wouldâŠ
"Yes, it was quite a distinction. And now two hundred young ladies have a common adversary. I wish you luck, sister."
Eloise frustratingly never seemed to let Daphne have the last word.
Everyone stopped for a moment to look between Eloise and Daphne. Even Hyacinth was only left tense, shuffling on her spot.
Daphne had no words, only staring thoughtfully at her sister.
Francesca wringing her hands on the dress, you worriedly detached her hands from the dress. It was no matter to her; she was still focused on the potential argument. Her voice called out with a slight sternness.
âEloiseâŠâ
Eloise with no falter
"What, it is true.â
Your eldest sister turned to Eloise, firm.
"My success on the marriage mart influences all of your prospects." Turning soft.
"We will all need to find love one day. Indeed, a love as pure as what dear mama and papa once shared, if we are so fortunate.â
She looked a bit dazed.
"I merely hope I am able to continue such a grand tradition.â
"Your dresses have arrived!" Suddenly, mother glided in, followed by a maid.
Daphne made a beeline for the gowns carried in by the maid.
"Oh, this one is quite ravishing."
"Mary Edgecombe wore a similar shade last season-"
"And secured three offers the very next day. One from an Earl."
Eloise butted in. âMary Edgecombe, now the Countess of Fulton, apparently spent the last year living in a cottage hundreds of miles away from her Earl. She is miserable.âShe smacked her hand against the pamphlet she was holding. âIt says it all here.â
âDo not tell me that is yet another scandal sheet. Eloise.â Mother slacked her shoulder in disappointment or exaggeration, you could not tell.
You wouldnât put much faith into the gossip until you heard Eloise say, âThis one is different. This one lists subjects by name. In full.â
Silence.
Everyone rushed for the pamphlet. Hyacinth, with a gleeful shout of let me see, reaches for the paper. Francesca had already grabbed it from Eloise's hands.
âLady Whistledown...â She looked up for an answer. âLady Whistledown?â You heard Daphne say next to you as you look at Eloise in confusion*.
She shrugged, arms crossed, only responding, âThe author.â
âDo we know a Lady Whistledown?â
âSurely Lady Whistledown cannot be her true name...â Francesca said to mother before Daphne snatched the paper from her hands. Skimming through the words, making a worrying face.
âWhat does it say, dearest?â
âShe loathes the fact we have been named alphabetically, oldest to youngest...â
She was taken aback.âYour father and I found it orderly.â
Daphne continued on spitting the pamphlets' snippy comments, âLady Whistledown finds banality.â She stopped taking a glance at you before continuing. âShe says the sixth Bridgerton, the ward," You and Eloise scoffed. "must be grateful to not have been initiated, in polite terms, another kind of colourlessness tradition.â
Finally, you had had enough. You huffed."I don't even want to hear it from someone called Whistledown.â You moved back and forth on your feet. This Whistledown was making your blood boil. âWhat does that even mean?"
"Who knows, dear." Feeling a hand on your back from your mother was, unfortunately, little comfort.
Eloise broke through your thoughts. âThe papers were distributed across
town today without charge-â
âWithout charge! What kind of pamphlet-â
Mother moved away from you to take the pamphlet from Daphne. Her expression, from the furrow of brows to the gentle hand on her heart.
âWell, at least she has something right. She has named Daphne the season's Incomparable. She calls you a... diamond of the first water. How lovely.â Eloise rolled her eyes, moving to stand next to you; gently nudging your shoulder in camaraderie. The rest of your family was smiling at Daphneâs success. But you and Eloise were outsiders with very different reasons.
After the triumph of the day, it was finally the night of the first ball. You only had one plan: to help your sister. Knocking on her door, then, without waiting, entering Daphneâs room. Surprisingly, she was alone. She whirled around in her vanity chair.
âI do not believe I said enter [Name].â
You moved quickly to be by her side.
âDaphne, how are you feeling?â
She laughed in a bit of annoyance, turning back at the vanity, moving on from your entrance with a wide smile. âExcited sister, it's the start of a new future.â
âYou will tell me everything tomorrow before your line of suitors arrive.â
âA line?â She hummed out, neither humbly nor shyly.
âSo modest.â
âI haven't the faintest idea what you mean.â
Squinting at her in disbelief. Still, it pulled a smile from you.
You go towards her, picking at the options, feeling the different textures. Before Daphne âlightlyâ slapped your hand away, you huffed. You were only touching it, not as if you were going to mess with it.
Daphne's hand hovers over the row of necklaces, going through it once and twice before nodding to herself, choosing a delicate and thin silver necklace in front of her, ready to clasp it around her neck. Even though you know despite the fact that she had already planned everything months ago. You grab the ends of her necklace, accidentally tugging too hard, causing a very unladylike noise out of her. Snickering a bit as you pretended to avoid the pointed look she gave you from the mirror before looking back at herself in the mirror. Her head moved back and forth.
âWhat kind of suitor are you looking for?â
She paused, turning, confused. âI did not realize you were a romantic.â She clasped your hand. The warm feeling was swept away.
Wincing, this is not the route you wanted to go.
âNo, merely in your business.â Unimpressed, your sister rose for her gloves. Time was slipping past as it was almost time for her to leave. And before her maid would arrive. Why would she be alone? Preparing by herself? Your sister was usually one of the more collected of the siblings. Was she nervous?
âWell, I suppose it is time.â
She was vibrating with nerves and excitement. You wanted to help her, and you couldnât. It hurt a bit. Rushing over to hug her. Stumbling from the force, Daphne composed herself, wrapping her arms around you. Normally, it was comforting and warm. Now it felt tight and overwhelming, grasping at each other to avoid tears. Letting go almost felt like you were a child saying goodbye to her father, headed off to war. Maybe in a way you were, and you could only watch.
Don't forget to reblog and heart to let me know you want more!
I'm happy for Season 5 but I'm worried we won't see enough Michaela yearning before Francesca realizes. I feel we only got the tip of it in season 4.
Also, I was 100% confident Eloise was season 5 but now I'm happy its not. The set up in season 4 was mostly shit with few exceptions, Eloise and Hyacinth, and that Benedict kicked out of the treehouse or whatever it was. Eloise will mostly be pushed up to a more active role with a bigger storyline like Francesca. My worry is that will only be the letters and not something outside of romance lead up.
Also, Also, thank god its not focusing on trauma of being a queer person. Thank god.
I'm curious what they mean with Michaela and the estate. Are women getting pushed to lord duties slowly? Also we need Michaela and Eloise to talk.
I need the couples to talk to each other. I need the coupls to do something as a couple that isn't fighting. More active role.
I also worry that they won't build up how truly sad Francesca is/was after john. Or any john crumbs. New setting thank god. Also I need them to never put Michaela in something like that hood outfit with silvery color when she drove the carriage ever again. That and Kate's Indian blue inspired dress in season 3. It was neither a fantasy regency dress and not even properly attempting to be a Indian inspired dress. I have a lot of hate for the fabric choices, and silhouettes the show choses. With execptions of course. But Those two outfits are the bane of my existence anf NOT the object of all my desires.
What is going on with Whistledown?
Also in celebration I'll be posting another chapter soon. Not featuring Francesca unfortunately. :( I'll get there.
You're a Bridgerton, I presume? [Female Reader Insert] CH. 4
I Accidentally posted this early. Enjoy my draft. I'm screaming in my head right now.
Masterlist | Chapter 3 | Chapter 5
Once the presentations were done, everyone gathered in the gardens for the celebration, during which your family was reunited with Daphne and Mother. "Daphne, my dear, you were radiant. The entire room was watching you."
Daphne looked relieved and delighted but a bit overwhelmed. "Thank you, Mama. I can hardly believe it!"
"You did well, sister. Though I must admit, I was keeping an eye on a few overly eager suitors. Iâll have to meet each of them personally, of course." said a proud Anthony.
Butting in with encouraging words for your sister, Eloise rolled her eyes, "Oh, please. Must we always focus on marriage the second after the debut? Maybe sheâd rather enjoy herself without being auctioned off." Usually fine with her spirited quips, it frustrated you at the moment. Luckily, Benedictâs laugh cut through the negativity. "Sheâll have enough dances to worry about without Anthony breathing down their necks. Iâm sure theyâll be too afraid to ask for her hand." Anthony scoffed with a laugh, eyes crinkling at Benedict as he teasingly raised his hands at the eldest in a 'don't hurt me' manner.
Daphne only laughed lightly. "Itâs only the first event. No oneâs proposing yet, Benedict."
"You handled everything perfectly, Daphne. The way you charmed the Duchess of Somersetâeveryone noticed." The softer voice, at least compared to the other Bridgertons, of Francesca rang through.
Wanting to continue encouraging Daphne, with a spirited voice. "You didnât just charm them; you captivated them! I heard- I believe a Duchess! Spreading praise for you because of Queen."
She looked grateful, from the reassurance and compliments.
"Weâll need to prepare for more invitations. The season has only begun, and I imagine the suitors will come flocking. But for now, weâll focus on celebrating tonightâs success." You could already see your Mother planning how many more treats to buy and ways to help create conversations for her many suitors.
The excited voice of Hyacinth cut through all the planning. "Does that mean more parties? Oh, I canât wait! Daphne, I want to be like you when I debut!" Gregory grinned at her. Oh dear. You only hoped that if they fought, they wouldnât do it so loudly. "Youâll have to grow first, Hyacinth." She furrowed her brows. Daphne leans down to Hyacinth, "Donât rush it, little sister. I'm sure youâll be even more dazzling when your time comes."
Leaving your siblings to banter, you glanced at Mother, sensing her mix of pride and anxiety. "It went well tonight. But we should keep an eye on who takes an interest in her. Not everyone will have good intentions." She nods thoughtfully, "Youâre right. I trust youâll help me watch out for her." You nod, itâs not like you could help her during balls as you had yet to debut, but you believe you could watch over her during the day. You knew you could trust her, but wanted to at least help her at the beginning. While you were younger, you were less naive than Daphne. For unfortunate reasons.
As the conversation turned into laughter, Daphne caught her breath, now visibly more relaxed. Before the conversation could continue, you heard a loud yell of âBridgertons!â Everyone looked over to see a group of men looking at them, with one waving his arm in a âcome hither motion.â You looked back at your family, figuring they were talking to your brothers.
âWho are they?â Hyacinth said before Mother could speak a word.
âThey are gentlemen, we know from the club.â answered Anthony, always ready to answer his family.
âGentlemen? Not friends?â You raised an eyebrow in curiosity and concern, wondering if these were people your brothers did not like.
âCan gentlemen not be friends?â Colin quipped back with a smile. You relaxed, knowing Colin would not lie to you.
âWell, it looks like you three are being called off. The girls and I will mingle.â
Eloise huffed, having no desire to mingle. Gregory was a bit insulted that he was not named in any group. Anthony furrowed his brows, not liking the idea of leaving his family, especially a freshly debuted Daphne, without his guide.
You wanted to ease his worries. âDo not fret; while you three are gone, we still have a protector, Gregory.â He became alert at his name and new position; you think he even puffed his chest slightly. Everyone smiled at him except for Eloise and Hyacinth, where you softly shook your head at Eloise, signaling not to tease him. She only crossed her arms with a soft smirk. And knowing Hyacinth, you quickly but as subtly as you could wrap your arm around her in a âwarm gestureâ and promptly cover her mouth when she opened it, not taking the chance that she would tease Gregory at his moment. She struggled a bit like a fish out of the water before she stilled, as well as someone like Hyacinth could, not very much. You took this as her understanding and dropped your hand from her mouth, but not from your âwarm gestureâ before something awful happened, such as Hyacinth licking your hand in protest.
For someone who greatly desired to be a lady, she had many âunladylikeâ behaviors.
You could see the thoughts rushing through Anthony's head. He was not convinced to leave his family but found a way to gently let down the offer, having no desire to hurt his little brother's feelings. âNo- No. It is quite alright. I frankly have no desire to be in others' company.â
Seeing the excitement die down in Gregory's eyes as he looked away. Anthony quickly focused on comforting him, âPerhaps-â eyes darting around a bit, looking for an answer. Gregory looked up at him with curiosity. âI will⊠need help.â Everyone looked at him curiously, in the amusement of how he would get out of the situation, and others were in utter confusion. Take a guess who was in what group. Anthony looked around and lit it up with assurance. âYes! While Benedict and Colin are gone, I could use help with attending to our sisters while I focus on Daphne.â Daphne and Mother looked confused, Eloise miffed, Francesca a moment away from laughing, Benedict in his signature hands-on-hip stance and smile, Colin with a quirked eyebrow, Gregory looked excited once again, and Hyacinth- âWhat? What would he-!â You quickly covered her mouth; a bit panicked, you looked at Anthony. âWhat a wonderful idea, Anthony!â
You could feel her squirming a bit, wanting freedom. Focusing on protecting your brother's dignity, you hit Colin as gently as possible but with difficulty and no grace, with Hyacinth struggling in your arms. You felt your face burn in awkwardness. Colin was already looking at you, just strangely now; you only looked at him with wide eyes and signaled at Hyacinth. He understood, at least, you hoped he did. He moved closer to you. âCome now.â As quickly as you two could, you let go, and Colin promptly wrapped her with âaffection,â but not before she could squeal out, âBUT-â âHush.â He told her she only stomped her foot. You look back at Gregory, who was disheartened again; you couldnât let that happen.
âI'm feeling a bit overwhelmed,â your family looked at you, alarmed. Anthony was already looking for an exit. So, you quickly spoke, grabbing their attention again. âI would like a drink, but I do not wish for anyone to speak to me for some peace.â You turned fully to Gregory. âWould you help me with any unwanted attention, Gregory?â He looked at you, surprised, but nodded quickly, the signal you needed to move away from the group. As you two walk away, Anthony tells you two to stick together. You think he trusted you enough not to worry about you and to take care of Gregory. And for the genuine fact that your family knows you could only take so much socializing before tiring yourself. As you left, with the noise of your family behind, hearing the sound of Colin and Benedict leaving and conversing with each other, Eloise, Francesca, and Hyacinth were squabbling with each other. And you're sure Daphne, Mother, and Anthony are probably quietly speaking of their âbattle plan,â as we jokingly say, while you were thinking of yours.
As you and Gregory stood near the refreshment table, quietly observing the party, you noticed a few curious glances thrown your way. It was as if the ton hadnât expected you to stand on the sidelines, or perhaps they were intrigued by the sibling duo. With Gregory puffed up, clearly enjoying his newfound role as protector, but you kept your gaze moving, scanning for any signs of trouble. You similarly looked around to observe everyone.
You could see Benedict and Colin with a group of gentlemen. Many women were eyeing the group, and more likely, your brothers. They probably didn't approach the men for fear of appearing too eager.
Farther away, you could see your sisters surrounding Penelope, in a spirited conversation. 'Iâm glad.â you hoped Penelope would feel better in the company of your sisters.
You found the last of your family surrounded by a large group filled mostly with, much to Anthony's chagrin, you're sure, debutantes.
Anthony's face had turned cold; you detest it when he looks like that. Instead, you turned your attention towards Daphne, and she looked a bit overwhelmed but otherwise happy. âGood.â
Gregory was doing his best to act as your protector, glancing around for trouble.
"I think we're doing a good job. No oneâs dared to approach us yet."
You smiled at his words and a bit bashful. Happy to be reminded how important you are to your brother. "I see that man over there eyeing us. Do you think he's a threat?" Looking up to the mentioned man, you saw he was looking your direction, but he didnât seem distrustful. He was most likely looking at Gregoryâs odd behavior. Instead of looking antsy to play or already playing, he was staying still. It would certainly look weird, but better to be skeptical. "I doubt it, Gregory. Heâs probably just curious. But if he approaches, I'll let you handle him.â
Just as you were about to respond, the man you were speaking of started walking towards you two. He was tall and elegantly dressed, with an air of confidence that immediately caught your attention. Gregory stiffened beside you, ready to act.
"How do you do?"
"We Are well, and you sir"
"Lord Brome, excuse the improper introductions, but as an acquaintance of your brother, I couldnât help but say hello." Fussily messing with his front jacket.
You and Gregory look at each other, still unsure of his intentions.
"How is your family?"
"Well, as we can be. Happy for our dear sister."
He brightened.
"Ah, yes. Your sister, Diana, was it?"
âDaphne, sir.â
He had the manner to look flustered before spurting out his next words.
âYes- Well, you see my hearing isn't the best. After serving, you know.â Happy to find a out in his blunder.
âYou were a soldier!â An excited shout from Gregory surprised the man, but he no doubt didnât mind it.
âYes! Why, I even worked closely with the general.â What general? Which battle? What on earth is this man talking about?
âAmazing! Did-â he cut off Gregory, and the little part of you wanting to help him died. âYes, he even complimented me on my aim! Said I was such a good shot it would be the same as shooting at night.â Oh. Oh.
"How accomplished you are, good sir! You say you were close to the general?â He nodded eagerly, almost childishly. âHow close? Did he call on you often? For your mind?â You could see the air from how big he huffed in pride.
âWhy yes! Even the other Soldiers themselves would tell me how often he talked of me, and I brought such emotion to him!â
âWith a sigh alone! They knew he was thinking of me!â Once again, you and Gregory looked at each other, and once again, he had some confusion on his face.
âMy! Such an accomplished soldier, your wife must be very proud.â His face fell a bit. âAlas, I have not found someone yet. In good faith, I must admit that I have come to acquire about your sister.â Gods, you should have realized how much Daphne's popularity would affect you. âIn what way, good sir?â You moved your hands behind your back, rubbing them. Was it your whole body or just your hands? You hope it was only your hands. He looked older than Daphne, but not enough that you immediately reject him. But in the few moments you learned he was not the kindest, had terrible manners, did little research, was a bit of a coward, had little wit, lied, and had few connections, let alone good ones. He would make a fool of us in front of everyone.
âFor-for courtship, of course.â
âI can give no permission nor advice, good sir. You will have to look at my brother for that.â Before you can motion to your brothers, âWhy, he must only be 5!â
âTwelve, sir. I'm twelve.â
He dabbed his forehead before looking at Gregory. âWellâŠmy lord.â Gregory straightened. Ready to take his new position. âYes?â
âWith your sister and you taking your position so young, I imagine your family is eager for help, and I could provide. I am of a noble family, with soldier past, so I will be able to protect well-â Gregory grew that mischievous look in his eye. âDo you play marbles?â
âUh-no, I don't believe-â Gregory faked a nonchalant look as well as a child could.
âBut- I can!â âHmmm, I don't know,â He squinted at him, scrutinizing him, and you were trying to keep a straight face as possible. "I learn quickly! The next time you see me, I will be a master- not quite like you, my lord!â âMm, well, I wish you luck, good sir, but it is time my brother gets back to his duties, don't you think so, brother?â He nodded like he held all the wisdom of the world. âIt is time I go, good sir.â âOf course, Viscount,â he bowed before walking off.
Once he was out of view, you both fell into laughter. âWhat a strange man!â âYes, a foolish, silly one.â
âSilly?â
The one you feel Pity for.â You laughed, muttering to yourself. "Gods, what a fool."
Gregory continued, âAll wrong for Daphne.â Even he could tell right away.
Approaching you two instead of your brothers, ignoring Gregory, his boastfulness, underprepared, and- AND he didnât even know Daphneâs name! In no way would he challenge Daphne intellectually.
âSo many lies! Do not do that, Gregory!â Pointing at him, he swatted your finger away as he huffed a bit at the obvious scolding and rule.
âHe was silly but not a bad man.â
"But you're making fun of him."
"Well," You didnât have a retort. In one sentence, you felt shame wash over you. Not realizing your snippy comment was heard. You didn't want to show Gregory that this was okay or a cruel side of you. Knowing you could've said worse. Never even gave the man the benefit of the doubt, even if he was an idiot. The Bridgertons were kind, your family is kind, why...
What were you thinking?
You only mumble out an apology. "Wasn't nice of me." Playing with your glass of lemonade, avoiding Gregoryâs innocent eyes.
Gregory tried a friendly push to assure everything was alright. It was no use; the kindness made you feel worse. You ended the morning with Gregory right by your side, talking by himself, you in silence, and your mind replaying the events.

Don't forget to reblog and heart to let me know you want more!
Also serious question when you read 'blood rushing to my face' don't you think of blushing or the feeling it gives. Like physically feeling the blushing not necessarily the appearance. I want to make sure this fic is inclusive so be so to tell me if there is a sentence or word that isn't!
NOT ONCE AGAIN A PARENT FROM THE GRAVE USING JEWELRY TO HELP TWO IDIOTS IN LOVE.
I had to pause and laugh. I was getting flashbacks from S2. Imagine being exhausted watching your child and lover almost fumble that you have to give them a push saying 'let go of any guilt be happy.'
Standing next to Francesca, you couldnât help feeling anxious for the girls; anyone could feel the tension in the room. How much this moment mattered. You wish it were less severe. At least for people to smile at these poor girls, all you could see around the room were deadpan stares and haughty smiles. Somehow, people found something to gossip and nitpick already, and no one had even come out yet. You donât even want to look at the queen, already knowing of her boredom. When she came into the room, she didnât even acknowledge her audience, only sat down with a huff, and ever since then, the room only filled with whispers. You needed to stop thinking instead focusing on something positive or anything but this. Eventually, you snapped out of your thoughts when you heard your name in a not-so-quiet way in a hushed room.
â[Name]!âÂ
It was Hyacinth who turned a bit away from the front to touch your arm. A couple of people turned around to see who would speak so âloudlyâ. You stayed quiet for a few moments, waiting for people to lose interest in you and Hyacinth. You only smiled at her, and oftentimes, that was enough for her, just knowing she had your attention. When you thought enough moments had passed, you leaned a bit closer, as did she, giggling quietly, before softly whispering to her.
âDid you find something interesting, Hyacinth?â
âOnly everything!â
You smiled, having turned slightly bigger, only wanting to encourage her more. You told her, âThe debutantes should be coming out soon. Tell me the best styles that you think would fit my debut.â Her eyes turned wide with a bigger smile, if that was possible, not that it mattered to you. And with a few nods, she turned back, looking straight at the door with intensity. Not wanting to miss any of the dresses.Â
Youâre always glad to have Hyacinth; she could always grab your focus, bring some cheer while distracting you from your worries. You only wonder where she got her energy, not thinking it is something that will only last in her childhood. Either way, you were glad for the distraction and for making your sister happy. Gregory definitely couldnât. At the moment, he was too focused on trying not to doze off; the excitement at being at a castle seemed to wear off quickly for him. Before you could gently nudge him awake, the voice of the announcer set his back straight and eyes wide open before drooping at the noise of his siblings laughing at him.
âPRESENTING Miss Prudence Featherington,â That grabbed the familyâs attention, âMiss Philipa Featherington,â because it would mean one thing.
âAnd... Miss Penelope Featherington.âÂ
The announcer did not look happy announcing so many names at once, â All presented by their mother. The Right Honourable, Lady Featherington.âÂ
The door opened, and you could see Penelope. She looked beautiful, but squished when she and her sisters tried passing through the door. Still, you were happy for her and wished her all the luck and support, as all your siblings were too. Even if it was quite strange as to why Lady Featherington decided to debut all three daughters at once. How on earth will she be able to put that much effort into three matches? Let alone the troubles if a younger daughter matched before the eldest. It was too bad Penelope wouldnât debut with Eloise next season; she would have thought it more bearable. As the family walked down, you saw Penelope look around at the grand room before her mother lightly hit her arm to focus. Subtle, there's only more reason why you didnât like Lady Featherington. They bowed; at least two of them did; Prudence wasnât doing a very good job. It was a bold move even for them, perhaps a small sign of defiance against the queen? Then you saw their mother go towards Prudence, trying to push her down more, but the queen did not care for them and waved them off. Right, thought too much of it. Still, while you didnât like the Featheringtons, Penelope excluded, it was still quite rude for the queen to write off their effort. Before you knew it, there was a THUMP and gasps coming from all around you. Â
The eldest had fainted.
You would have to make sure to give Eloise treats, or a book, perhaps both, would be better in this case, the next time she visits Penelope to help raise her spirits from this disaster. As Prudence was helped up. You tried to help the family by whispering to your siblings, âLook away, for their dignity.â Most of them still looked âFor Penelope.â Everyone looked away and started talking amongst each other, which grabbed the attention of those next to them. Always wanting a Bridgertonâs opinion. Luckily, your eldest brothers didnât look against talking with them; instead, they directed them, or in Benedictâs case, charming them, into a new focus. Thank goodness.
Minutes after that, unfortunate disaster, you heard Daphne and Motherâs name. âPRESENTING MISS DAPHNE BRIDGERTON,â The doors opened you saw Daphne with that feeling of pride once again. Smiling for her in case she needed to see a friendly face. âPRESENTED BY LADY DOWAGER VIOLET BRIDGERTON.â She walked slowly, looking straight on with confidence and an elegant smile. You linger at the edge, watching as your sister Daphne takes her place in front of the queen, bowing as the picture of elegance and poise before her. You grew nervous and even a bit angry at the queen. The way she dismissed the Featheringtons was cold; did they, do we, truly matter so little to her? It made you uncomfortable knowing there was nothing that you could do to help Daphne. She was on her own.Â
A harsh reality for you. Before you went deeper into your mind, you were reminded to focus on your sister as the queen stood up and gently grabbed Daphneâs chin to look at her. Finally, a small smile appeared on her face. âFlawless, my dear.â ending with a kiss on her head. Thank goodness, you knew she would excel, but you could feel your body relax knowing of a very positive outcome; you think even Anthony must have relaxed a little. As Daphne and Mother walked away, you saw Daphne make a quick comment to Mother. You continued to watch her until you could no longer see her, before you looked at the rest of the court. Everyone looked impressed while talking amongst each other, but you could hear no snide comments, even though you knew there was always someone. You looked back towards your family, Colin, and Benedict, noticing you. Both give you different expressions. Benedict raised his eyebrows with an expression of exaggerated wow, and Colin with a bit of a cheeky smirk. It seemed few of your family members were troubled over Daphne. You wished you were as relaxed as they were.
You turned back around, happy and giggling. You thought everything went well, but furrowed your brows a bit when you saw the Queen's expression turning to boredom again, only less so than before. The slumping of your shoulders and a soft, weary sigh were left to comfort you.  Â
Thank you, guys, for the support! I'm so happy people enjoy my writing. Just wanted to let you know the third chapter is almost done. It turned out way longer than I expected. Then I had a math exam pop up :( :( .
Anyways, thanks again for the support. Don't forget to reblog, and don't feel shy to comment. I'm nice, I promise đ.
Exiting the house in a rush with your family, servants, and all the noise, you barely noticed the Featherington Family exiting their home, only giving them a glance and well wishes to Penelope. You could not tell where everyone was, only Daphne. Most everyone circled her, rearranging her tiara and adjusting her hair and gloves while one of the maids held her train. You wanted to help but didnât want to make a mistake or accidentally overwhelm your sister; you only stuck by her side, more like beside the head maid who was adjusting her hair, as a sign of support, ready to help if she called to you. As your sisters and mother climb into the carriage, with your mother and Daphne entering last, you couldnât help but feel slightly anxious for herânot wanting your shoes to touch her train accidentally and for her introduction to the queen or why your mother looked slightly peeved when she entered the carriage but returned to smiling when she saw you looking at her, or where on earth Anthony was. While Daphne looked a bit nervous, she still looked confident and ready. You donât know how she made it look easy, even though you knew of the years she prepared for this moment; she made it look effortless, and she would make it look effortless; you just knew it. Thatâs why you thought it best not to voice your worries; while you did not have confidence in yourself, you did in your sister.
Unfortunately, that confidence did not come with the confidence of a comfortable ride. You were surprised Eloise was not saying something about feeling cramped and how we had not yet gotten a slightly larger carriage after all these years. But when you turned to look at her, you saw her reading something; you think you saw a few names but moved on in case you were invading her privacy. You did not even know where she had picked up the pamphlet. You decided to wait until she told you or someone asked, typically by lovely but nosy Hyacinth, but she was too giddy about seeing the ladies' debut even to notice. Francesca was enjoying her moment of peace.
You looked at Daphne, and as if sensing your stare, she looked up at you with a small smile and softened eyes. You felt yourself giving a small smile back to her, worries slowly fading away and being overturned by pride when you looked at her.
âHow are you feeling?â
âIâm alright. Anxious as any other debutante, but that is normal. Do not worry for me, [name].â She gently knocked her foot against yours to assure and calm you. You thought it funny that she was calming you down when it should have been the other way around, but she knew you were always more anxious than the rest of the family. Your mother gave a gentle smile at the moment between you and Daphne before speaking. âYes, do not worry, [name],â she said as she leaned over, touching your hand and the other over Daphneâs. âYou have seen how ready Daphne is. She will do exceptionally well.â Then, turning her head to look only at Daphne, âBut no matter what happens, know I will always be proud of you,â She moves her head to look at all of us, âAll of you.â It made you feel nice, and you could see it did the same with your sisters, except for Eloise, who still focused on reading the pamphlet. When your mother saw this, she couldnât help but furrow her brows. Not wanting a tense atmosphere to appear, you did what Bridgertons did best: make fun.
"Well, after all the practice I've given you, Daphne, I trust you won't be as clumsy as our brothers when they think theyâre charming!â Daphne smiled, a knowing glint in her eye as she continued, âCertainly not, with how much practice Iâve had with Your Majesty.â Your other sisters giggled, and your mother began to smile again at what Daphne was referring to.
During Daphneâs practice sessions, Mother thought it was best to recreate what a debut would look like, which meant she needed a queen. Francesca often helped as a stand-in but couldnât replicate the queenâs commanding presence. Francesca was too gentle for that, while Mother was either too gentle or too afraid to be more specific. Either way, Francesca eventually wanted to return to her music. Hyacinth played the role of the queen for a while; she had the confidence, loved the spotlight, had no problem commanding, and enjoyed anything about the debutantes and royalty. However, she was still a child and often got bored when the rehearsals became too serious for her. So, it was Eloiseâs turnâor, she would put it, the new victim. She certainly had no problem speaking her thoughts or giving a poker face, or maybe it was just her off in her thoughts. Her sharp wit often made Daphne laugh and relieved the stress of preparing for the debut. But, as we all suspected, it lasted the shortest with Eloise. She already disliked the idea of the debut, and her frustration toward it led her to make snippy remarks; she was quickly removed from her duty to avoid further tension.
Thatâs when it became your turn. You did not think you could act as the queen; instead, you chose to help Daphne in other ways, like helping her select her dress and hairstyle.
Otherwise, you tried to avoid the rehearsals with your studies when they were looking for their new queen. The thought of embarrassing yourself in front of your family was too daunting, even though a part of you knew that your mother nor Daphne would tease you when they saw how anxious you were. That is why, when Eloise saw how you were, she offered herself up for the role because she enjoyed the idea of ordering Daphne around. The temporary replacement was Hycainthâs old plush toy, and while Daphne was doing a good job, not even she could take the plush seriously. That was when you offered yourself before they could ask. Once you saw how funny it was to see Daphne bowing to an animal plush, you decided to read stories about queens and articles about Queen Charlotte. She was certainly something. Regardless, you felt prepared for your role. To the surprise of Daphne and your mother, you were immersed in your role, even with your shaky start. It was the only time you saw Daphne stumble when she witnessed your confidence. You quickly fell out of character, worried about your sister and embarrassed by yourself. She rushed toward you, followed closely by your mother when they showered you with compliments. Word quickly spread around the house about your performance. Everyone teasingly called you âYour Majestyâ or quipped, âMove out of the way for her Majesty.â Even Anthony once bowed and called you âYour Majesty,â joking that perhaps you should be the head of the household instead of him.
Your sisters began teasing you in the carriage, and Eloise finally looked up, joining the conversation. She was always ready to make fun of a sibling, and she and your sisters joked, âOh, Iâm sorry I forgot I was in the queen's presence,â or with an exaggerated, âYouurrr Majesty.â
When the teasing began to quiet down, we neared the castle, and everyone except Mother was leaning forward in awe. As the carriage came to a stop, everyone moved out with the help of the footmen. Looking around, you suddenly felt overwhelmed by how large everything was, the sheer number of people, and how much noise there was. You turned around, quickly moving toward Francesca and wrapping your arm around hers. She looked at you, placed a comforting hand atop yours, and gave a reassuring nod and smile. You knew she understood what you were feeling; she was one of the best people to comfort you in moments like this.
As your family paused, waiting for everyone to gather and to move only when Daphne would, you heard her exclaim in surprise, âAnthony! You are here.â You looked over to see a breathless Anthony approach everyone. Finally! You were relieved he was alright and would be at this special moment. You hoped to move closer to him in the castle for a comforting arm. While Francesca provided understanding and comfort, if you wanted to leave, you knew your brother would be there to help, defend you from any whispering voices, and do his best to comfort you even if he didnât fully understand. You always felt more confident when Anthony was by your side.
âOf course, Iâm here, sister. I would never miss such an important day for you and our family,â
He replied. Mother hummed with a look that was ready to scold. âNo, you would just be late for it.â
While Benedict and Colin snickered at their brother being scolded, Anthony and Mother exchanged glances, having a conversation you didnât understand. Only knowing it was causing tension, you quickly moved close to them, whispering and shaking your head, slightly frantic. Your voice tinged slightly with nerves, worried they would attract negative attention on Daphneâs big day. âUh... Not the time.â They glanced at you before turning back to the front. Anthony offered his arm to Daphne to hold. âShall we?â She nodded, and as they began to walk forward, she looked back at you, giving a kind smile to thank you and reassure you of the day ahead.
You're a Bridgerton, I presume? [Female Reader Insert] Ch. 1
Masterlist | Chapter 2
Often, while growing up, you've heard of what a prime family looked like. Strong family line, beauty, poise, kindness, sociability, wealth. Your family was often considered the definition.
Which was idiotic, as you could name numerous times your family was the opposite. But that never stopped you from holding the Bridgerton name or your family proudly.
â
The lively sounds of everyone rushing around downstairs filled the air as you calmly descended the stairs with your sisters. Eloise led the group, Francesca beside her, while Hyacinth walked closely beside you.
Eloise fidgeted in her dress, tugging at the fabric as discomfort spread across her face. âI'm already roasting!â she exclaimed.
Francesca huffed, amused at her sister. âAre you to complain the entire day, Eloise?â
You couldnât help but giggle and lean forward, ready to tease Eloise. âIt is the only thing she knows how to do!â
Eloise turned and shot a sarcastic smile at you before addressing Francesca.
âSurely, I cannot be expected to bear these fashions the entire day.â Hyacinth rushed forward, leaving you behind as she moved next to Eloise.âI feel like a princess. Do I look like one?â Hyacinthâs infectious energy made you smile. Eloise attempted to suppress her sarcasm in response to her younger sister, but given her displeasure with the day, she struggled to hide her true feelings.
âDo you truly wish to know what I think you look like?â
âEloiseâŠâ you said, your tone warning as she glanced behind you with an âI know, I knowâ expression.
Hearing rushing footsteps behind you, you smiled again, knowing that at the speed of those steps, it was always Hyacinth, or in this case Gregory, but often both.
âOn your left!â
Gregory rushed past you and your sisters, zooming past Hyacinth, where he suddenly snatched her hair ribbon.
âGregory!!â
She shrieked before she started chasing after him. You don't know how he did it, but Hyacinth always saw a challenge in Gregory, even without saying a word, and he never grew tired of playing around with her.
You couldnât think much when you're fumbling with your shoe. At the ends of the stairs. You swear you can feel something in there, annoyingly unable to get it out, no matter how much you turn the shoe. It was either a pesky pebble or your never-ending prank war with Gregory and Colin has taken a new approach.
Eventually, you turned your gaze away from them to see Benedict and Colin approaching you and your sisters. âIs our dear sister still not ready?â Benedict asked his expression a mix of confusion and concern. Francesca playfully raised her hands with a slight grin on her face. âSheâs only been readying herself the entire night!â she exclaimed, her tone light and teasing. Eloise scoffed. âYou mean her entire life?â
You chuckled while nodding along. Eloise looks around, confused, before asking,
âWhere is Anthony?â
Suddenly realizing your elder brother was not there, you start looking around, as do your other siblings, except for a slightly grimacing Benedict, with Hyacinth and Gregory still chasing each other. You stilled, waiting to hear his fast steps storming down the hall, ready to command or brood, but you could find nothing.
Looking back at your siblings, specifically Benedict, you couldnât help but worryingly exclaim,
âWhere is he? Is he alright?â
Benedict didnât look like he knew how to reply, only causing you to grow more anxious by the second, worrying that something had happened to him. Colin, looking as if he did not worry about Anthony, at least to you. Focused on a different person, the debutante.
âI shall run up and hasten her along.â
But you and Eloise were still focused on Anthony for very different reasons. Eloise leaned in, her brow furrowing. âIs he not attending?â
Benedict swiftly turned his head to look away from you and Eloise, moving quickly toward Colin. He stretched out his arm to stop him, but Colin didnât; he only slowed down. As you and Eloise moved toward them, hobbling a bit before taking your shoe off, neither of you finished asking your questions. âColin, wait. I will do it.â
Colin faced Benedict with a look that clearly said he did not think he would do as good a job as he would. He turned back around with what you would call a slightly smug expression. Or maybe that was just what you thought; most of the faces youâve seen on your brothers were smug and mischievous.
âShe likes me much better than you, Benedict.â
âDid she say that?â
Benedict couldnât help but show a slightly confused and offended look. You reached behind him to give a slight pat on the back. He glanced at you before turning back toward Colin.
âEveryone says that.â
âAww.â
You couldnât help but tease your older brother, gently patting him on the back and offering mock sympathy.
Eloise only looked more and more done with everyone as the seconds passed and quickly spoke before someone else said another word.
âIf our eldest brother is not bothering to attend, then why must Iââ
You stopped teasing Benedict, looking back at Eloise with some sympathy as she crossed her arms. You were also an introvert, someone going out of your comfort zone, but the wish to support your eldest sister was too strong to argue with Eloise.
Benedict only knew that if Eloise continued, she might argue with everyone or worseâwin. Quickly shutting her down with a knowing tone and a look that said, âYou know we are going there to support our sister.â
âEloise. Quiet.â
Throwing her head back in frustration, she grumbled.
âOh, has that ever worked?â
You giggled and looked at Colin, who looked at you, also looking amused. Planning to comfort your sister later on, you moved to the plush bench. Kneeling by it, smacking the shoe against the bench arm. The loud bangs were a wonderful melody against the cheerful yells and loud argument. Hearing the huffing and puffing from Eloise, you must try to calm her after this shoe would just work with you, but it was too late.
Fed up with everyone, she unfolded her arms and marched past you and towards the stairs, yelling,
âDAPHNE! YOU MUST MAKE HASTE!!â
The thundering of her voice had you lose your balance, falling face-first into the plush with a small grunt. Holding the shoe over your head. It was clear in the battle that the shoe was standing tall. As you lift yourself, you hear the satisfied voice of your sister speak.
âShould you think she heard me?â
You couldnât help but laugh. A perfect family, you all were.
