about me
i am 13 and my nickname is crazy, stealing sewing needles my mom never noticed. scratching parts of my skin that are harder to make bleed, the thicker the flesh, the more pressure you need. covered in jeans and jackets, no one will see. if they do, it was the cat, it wasn’t me. i am 14 and the boy i think i love calls me stupid for trying to kill myself. a rope and a tree isn’t enough when i don’t have the guts. next time i’ll do it, i’ll be ready. no if ands or buts. i am 15 and as empty as the beer bottles next to my father, i guess he looks for something at the bottom of them. kinda like i cut through my layers to find and kill the pain. neither of us have stopped searching, i do it in silence, he does it drinking, lurching. i am 16, young, and full of death.what’s there to live for when you’ve got nothing left? nothing’s got my attention to keep me awake, so i sleep, and sleep, to avoid the ache. i am 17 and sadness sits at the edge of my bed every night, we don’t argue anymore, i don’t put up the fight. i am 18 and not much has changed. but it will get better, i will get better…i can’t be this way forever, right? goddamn just tell me, get me through the sadness, the night.

three friends
I have three friends who have been raped, two friends who have been touched below the waist without their consent, one friend who went to the police and I am so afraid.
I have four friends who have been catcalled this week, three friends who had strangers touch them on the train in the last 3 days, two friends who were scared to go out at night yesterday one friend who just called called me on her way home because she didn’t want to walk alone and today I am so frustrated.
I have five friends who are boys, four of them are straight, three of them have sisters, who they had to defend at least once against violent men, two of them are worried about the safety of their girlfriends, one of them has been raped last summer and I am still so angry.
I have six friends who are feminists, five friends who work hard to change society, four friends who have been threatened because of their beliefs, three friends who didn’t have a choice about their first sexual experience, two friends who now fear any sexual contact, one friend who was supposed to have her first time with her first love she had a girlfriend at that time, but he didn't even care and I am so sad.
I have seven friends who deserve justice, six friends who shouldn’t be brave to leave the house at night, five friends who were supposed to be able to wear what they want, four friends who wouldn’t have made it without therapy, three friends that want their innocence back, two friends who would have deserved a choice about what happens with their bodies that night, one friend who could still be alive and I, i am so afraid.

why is it always the woman who has to see past the beast in the man? why does she always have to clean his wounds, even after he has damaged her beyond repair? why is it always the man who is worthy of forgiveness for being a monster? I want to see the beast in the beauty. the half smile, half snarl. the unapologetic anger. I would like to see the man forgive the monster. to see her, blood and all, and love her anyway.

1. push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise. 2. push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable. 3. get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else. 4. stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything. 5. buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice. 6. buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small. 7. strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full. 8. organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle. 9. have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck. 10. push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog. 11. message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through. 13. think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything. 14. become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends. 15. lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.

A self care list. I’ve been working on this. I promise it’s worth it.
(via sweetbloodsomalia)
this started as a blog post and then went downhill from there
Henni adressed this once (probably more often but i just remembered that one time) where she talked about how she feels like she gets bad at taking care of herself.
I never understood this when I was younger, like, why wouldn’t you feed yourself and drink and shower and go outside, those are the basic things, why would you force yourself not to do them?
The thing is, taking care of yourself means so much more. It means accepting yourself, telling yourself, that your feelings and moods are valid and that you are worth eating and taking up space. That crawling under your bed and starving yourself won’t help you with anything. Punishing yourself or just letting those basic needs slip away and ignoring your empty stomach shouldn’t be okay.
Right now I’m in one of those phase were I don’t feel like I’ve earned the right to be here, dressing myself seems like too much effort, I’m not important or worthy enough to make myself leave the bed and cook something for me.
Something my therapist told me, as I called her up a few hours ago - crying in the middle of the street, because I couldn’t make myself move anymore - was, that i never learned how to take care of myself.
Not in a i-cant-cook-or-live-on-my-own-kinda-way, but in terms of emotional care.
I never learned to hug myself, talk to myself nicely; I adopted a way of speaking to myself, that wasn’t healthy for me, because that’s how my parents spoke to me and my therapist assured me that that’s not the way you speak to a scared child.
I developed a lot of bad habits throughout the years because of how I thought I needed to treat myself, I got into abusive relationships, ate nothing or too much, forced myself to do certain stuff or to not do things I wanted to do and harmed myself in other ways.
Summarizing this text: I’m at this point in time not able to calm myself down or treat myself the way I should.
You know what makes everything so much worse? That nobody gives a fuck. or even better, they do care, but not about me, but about themselves.
Every time I got bad again, my mother just leaves for a few days or weeks. Without talking with us about it, without a trace, one or two days before she’ll call my dad at work, because she’s too scared to tell him face to face and just casually tells him, that she’ll be gone for a while, not sure for how long, not sure where, but she’ll come back soon. Furthermore she won’t tell me that herself, my dad will come home one day after work, extremely stressed and pissed off and rant about how he hates it when she does it, how their marriage means nothing to her and just how bad everything in their relationship is.
My brother will then spent most of his time at friend’s houses, my dad moves into his work place and here I am, once again, all by myself, kinda not able to survive.
But I’ll manage it somehow, my therapist will call almost every day to make sure that I’m still alive and breathing and I’ll get over it and on with that thing I call my life.
It’s actually not that bad. No one notices how much or how less I eat, or when, no one is disappointed, when I’m in my PJs for a week straight or when I take 3 naps a day.
No one gives me a bad look, when I sit in the bathroom at 2 am and crying and no one will be angry, when I do the same at 8 o’ clock in the morning on the kitchen floor.
I can be as destructive and self-harming as I like, no one’s there to stop me or to tell me that I should get my shit together.
It’s kind auf nice to be able just to let it out, whenever it needs to get out. at the same time no one’s there to try to calm me down, when I wake up in the middle of the night, screaming and scared to death, no one will look after me, when I sit next to toilette, sweaty and feeling sick, about to faint.
But then everybody will get back and start judging. my mother will be very mad at me for not living my life to my full potential, for spending my days in my bed and she will shout at me, when I tell her, crying and shaking, that I just can’t go to the supermarket because I’m drowning in panic and bad thoughts.
She will punish me for not leaving the house and “doing what a ‘normal person’ would do”, with not buying food and no cooking. I’ll just eat nothing, I didn’t care anyways.
Or I’ll drag myself outside, with this last piece of hope and go to the supermarket to pick up frozen pizza and bread and something for my upset stomach and I’ll cry all the way back to the house, because it was so exhausting and too much to handle and I just had 3 panic attacks in a little store with probably 6 people and had to leave and break down on the sidewalk hyperventilating, wander lost around the streets, maybe twice, just to gather enough strength to make it to the cashier.
My dad will look at me while I’m down, almost dying and tell me, sometimes louder than necessary that he didn’t do anything wrong. That he was the perfect dad and that it’s not his fault.
Just like I would stand beside a burning house, hearing the family inside scream and screaming back: I’m sorry, I can’t help, it’s not my fault, I didn’t set the fire!
My parents are in denial for years now and I don’t think anything will ever get through to them. I’ve been in 3 different clinics in the past 3 years, had multiple therapists and took prescriptive meds for and against basically everything and they still look at me in this certain way, like I’m a stranger, expecting me to snap out of it any second.
They don’t even bother to cover up the fact that they are so annoyed of me being me, so tired of everything being so hard to handle.
But they actually don’t handle anything.
Currently my brother has a cold and decided to stay home from school to recover.
Because I don’t have a job at the moment, and I’m the only one who’s at home during the day, it’s my duty to take care of him, make him food in the evening, make him tea in the morning, make sure he gets fresh air and enough tissues.
Whenever my father comes home, late at night or leaves early in the morning, he’ll see if I’m awake and ask how my brother is. Remember, it’s not even a stomach flu, just a cold with a running nose and headaches. I don’t want to minimize his struggle, but I could literally lay beside my 16-years-old brother, with my arms cut open and having a stroke from all the panic attacks and he would check my brothers temperature and ask me to make him tea.
It’s just so nerve-wrecking, being not able to exist in your own body, nevermind in your own head and then watching the people around you, who you should be able to trust and feel save with, treating you like you are nothing, emphasizing your own self-image in the worst way possible.
When I force myself out of bed in the late afternoon, to make myself eggs on toast and to keep myself a little longer alive, they will comment on my eating behavior, ask me if I gained weight again and if I don’t think that it’s inappropriate to eat now -
I just really can’t
I don’t remember what the whole point of this is, what I wanted to tell the world, what I want my friends to think of me, this should have been a blog post, but I’m too scared to post it on a website I know my parents are reading. I don’t know what I want to say with this. I could write it in a diary and in my mother tongue, but it seems to me that I need this language to establish a border between myself and what happens in my life.
Nobody knows what’s really going on in my life, I normally don’t talk about it or at least try not to spent too much time in the role of the poor little (big) girl that feels so sorry for herself, that wants attention and everyone to love her, I try to keep it bottled up, but the one’s of you, that actually met me once or twice or even almost every day for 8 years in a row, see through my internet personality, see the person behind peetapun and actually saw me sitting one the sidewalk not being able to breathe or watched me crying in public toilets. I know it’s never fun and games with me, I know I cancel more dates then I ever show up, I arrive too late and leave too early, I’m not a good talker, a bad listener and just in general actually not a likeable person.
I kinda lost my train of thoughts now…
Maybe I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows, that I’m still suffering, because all I seem to do is tweet not really funny and insinuating stuff or write a blog post convincing myself how deep and thoughtful and clever I am, when all I actually do is trying not to be me.
day 1, there’s something about hospital lights and how they make everything seem traslucent and unreal and i swear i don’t remember anything, but the feeling of unreality. you can’t be gone. no. things like that don’t really happen. not in real life anyway. day 3, i should have bought that black dress we saw when we we went to the pier. the one i have is too sexy. and you’re not around to tell me - there’s no such thing. day 4, i hate funerals. you’re not here to hold my hand. why did they close the casket? i wish i could see your face. day 7, my mother tells me i should eat something. day 8, is alcohol food? day 11, i haven’t slept in three days. i don’t want to ruin the smell of our bed. it still smells like you. like us. day 14, my mother washed the sheets while i was asleep on the couch. i kicked her out. i miss you. no, i don’t want to call her. yes, i will. day 15, the guy at the coffee shop asked me where you were today. i said you were on a trip, coming back in a week. it didn’t feel like a lie. day 21, our lease is almost up. i don’t know what to do. i can’t think. day 22, i’m keeping the apartment. day 23, i’m moving out. day 24, i can’t move out. it’s our apartment. day 28, i extended the lease. no name on it. it feels wrong. all of this feels wrong. come back. day 30, it’s been a month. i called your mother. she cried. your dad said to stop calling for a while. day 35, your parents want your things back. day 36, i can’t bring myself to empty your side of the closet. day 37, your shirts still smell like you. day 38, my therapist said to stop texting you. apparently it’s bad for me. i told her you dying was pretty crappy. she didn’t think it was funny. maybe i’m losing it. day 58, i still miss you every day. day 65, 500 days of summer came out. i don’t want to watch it without you. day 80, i watched it. you would have hated it. day 100, i hate christmas. day 101, i’m hungover. i miss you. i can’t stop crying. my head hurts. day 150, i met someone. i hate that i like him. i hate that he makes me laugh. i hate that you’d think he’s a great guy. day 170, we had sex. i cried after. day 200, he found a photo of us. said it’s about time i move on. we broke up. day 201, i still miss you. i don’t miss him. but you’re not here. day 270, i got a haircut. i hate it. i look like a chipmunk. day 271, maybe it’s not that bad. it works from some angles. day 302, happy anniversary baby. day 303, i’m a mess. i hate you for leaving me like this. day 304, i don’t hate you. i’m sorry. i love you. i miss you. day 350, i quit. i hated that place anyway. day 357, i asked for my job back. it wasn’t so bad. day 365, i spent the whole day on your bench. now i understand why families make them. day 370, i’m moving out. day 371, i’m moving in with him. i’m sorry. day 463, i still miss you, but sometimes i forget. day 500, i’m engaged. number disconnected
m.v., 500 days of grief. (via findingwordsforthoughts)
