And he actually winked at Kite. Kite used the motion it took to put on his coat to try and hide his face. He was worried he was blushing. "I'm not that scary," he said to no one in particular as he did up the buttons.

After everything, a hot shower was the best thing he had ever experienced. He stepped out of the cage and watched the dust slough off and spiral towards the drain. When it was over, he felt like a person again. He wrapped a deep blue towel around his waist and stepped out of the bathroom. Gale was standing in the entranceway, obviously in the middle of dropping off a borrowed set of clothes. They froze, eyes traveling slowly over his bare chest, his arms, the mole under his collarbone, the trail of dark hair leading down his stomach. They swallowed. He was suddenly acutely aware that he wasn't in his cage. They were tracking his movements so closely, he knew he must have startled them badly. “Oh my God,” January said, backing away. “I am so sorry, I didn’t think you’d be—” “No, that’s my fault,” they said, setting a bundle of clothes down and turning their back at top speed. “I didn’t think you’d be done yet. I’ve brought you a change of clothes. They’ll be too big, obviously, but hopefully it will do for tonight. Sorry.”
