For those who are interested, we have been very calculated when it comes to engineering our characters’ imperfections. The development process has a built in erosion mechanism: many stakeholders in many review meetings tend to trim away a characters humanizing flaws and oddities, leaving little more than “pretty” and “safe”. Strip and shave most game characters today and you’d be hard pressed to tell most of them apart. We’ve worked very hard on Inquisition to safeguard our characters from this erosion process. We want to give them more identity than just their clothes, hairstyle and makeup. It’s our hope that after you’ve spent some time with them, our characters will be as inseparable from their quirks, flaws and oddities as your own friends and family are from theirs.

I keep reading disappointed fans’ comments claiming female characters “aren’t pretty enough” for their liking. “Pretty” isn’t even a characteristic, it’s a reduction to how you think someone should look in order to be appreciated. It is a rather sexist standard and it gets old and boring -very- quickly.

Thoughts and theories: connections

- So, Mary Kirby revealed that Vivienne would become the First Enchanter in the Circle of Montsimmard, which was the Circle where the Grand Enchanter Fiona lived. So, what if Vivienne, in her childhood, knew Fiona? I cannot imagine a nice relationship between these two women. Wow, imagine how much fights they probably had! Fiona would be a Mage, or even still an older apprentice and Vivienne would be that stubborn and spoiled little girl from the nobility hating that elf for not bow to her will as everyone else. And what if she even grew to admire Fiona and remembers her when the Inquisitor talk about the explosion that caused the Breach and killed so much people, probably Fiona included? Maybe even missing her? So much feels!

- Also, Maevaris Tilani talks in Until We Sleep about a Mage exiled from the Imperium to the Anderfels, who had the ability to graft spirit onto flesh to restore life. And what if this magister is Dorian? We know he uses some kind of necromancy, probably derived from spirit school, and that he was exiled. Anderfels borders Orlais, nation that will be visited in Dragon Age Inquisition. Could Dorian chase the famous Inquisitor and encounter him/her on the road? Though by the way she talks, Maevaris probably does not knew that Mage personally, but what if they could, somehow, meet and become friends? I can see the personalities of both agreeing in some points (but also conflicting in another, like slavery). So, could Dorian be our spirit healer? I actually liked the spirit school in DAO, would be so nice to see all the potential it holds!

Really hoping for more insight about the mages when the Inquisition comes out! I’m so excited!

It's just me or they really put Vivienne's outfit with a different color in the Baroness? But even with my disappointment for the lack of uniqueness in this new character, I'm happy to think they are already working in these new models and maybe very soon we will have the Inquisition characters in HoDA!
