“….Do you know what the date is, Scott?”

“Sure I do!” Scott grins cheerfully, “It’s someone’s birthday today, that’s what day it is. I’m not sure whose.” He squints at some smudged writing on the calendar, “But it’s not mine so I figured it must be yours.”

“Happy birthday to you!” Scott begins to sing. Loudly and enthusiastically.

And Virgil just looks unamused. “You’re pretty much two months too late for that, Scott.”

“It is someone’s birthday, but given they forgot mine too, I don’t see why I should remind anyone for them.”

Pokes her head around the door. "You're quiet."

“Hm? Have I? It happens sometimes,” Virgil answers with a shrug.

Conveniently forgetting it’s someone’s birthday? Possibly. Quite likely even. Maybe remember your brother’s birthday next year, John.

"Is your brother always that cocky?" There's a wet paper towel wrapped around the knuckles of her left hand, hiding the redness there. She's not even sorry.

Ah~ Well, well, well… so this must be who his brother pissed off. “Oh, I’d say about %95 of the time,” he responds with a grin. “What did he say to earn those shiners?”

“Oh Alan…” Virgil mutters, hand to his forehead. None of it is surprising, but… good grief.

“Heh… Well, thanks,” he responds with a grin. “You’ll be glad to find Alan doesn’t take after any of the rest of us. I couldn’t tell you where he even gets it from.”

                          « ♥ »  —— “Oh, he’ll have picked it up from somewhere, but don’t worry about it. I’m sure I’m not the first woman to give him a blackeye, and I don’t think I’ll be the last either.” She pauses, “Oh, um, it’s nice to meet you…?”

"Oh, I’m sure it won’t be. I just hope eventually one will knock at least some semblance of sense into him, but pigs might also one day fly.”

“Virgil Tracy,” he offers his name extending his hand. “And it’s lovely to meet you, miss...?”

                          « ♥ »  —— “Flirted. Attempted to bribe me with his father’s money. Called me pretty when I got angry. Proceeded to tell me he already had a girlfriend - though that was after I punched him the first time.” The corner of her mouth tilts up, “You seem nicer already, I like you.”

“Oh Alan...” Virgil mutters, hand to his forehead. None of it is surprising, but... good grief.

“Heh... Well, thanks,” he responds with a grin. “You’ll be glad to find Alan doesn’t take after any of the rest of us. I couldn’t tell you where he even gets it from.”

"So Kiddo..." Virgil greets enthusiastically, plopping a frozen bag of peas and a towel in front of his baby brother. An ever observant big brother couldn't help but notice those dual bruisers. "Who did you manage to piss off? ...Twice."

Alan grumbles at the peas and pounds at them with his fist to break them up a bit. “This crazy chick. I tried to pay her a compliment and she went berserk on me. Like girls are supposed to like compliments, having guys swoon at them and offer to buy them stuff and spend their dad’s money on them. This girl thought it was crazy stupid.  Must have escaped from some insane asylum.”

Virgil raises an eyebrow. “Uh huh. And just what sort of compliment was it you tried to give?” he asks, suspicious.

Alan covered his eyes with the peas. “I just said hi, offered to tell her about one of my amazing rescues, and offered to take her somewhere nice for dinner. Told her she looked pretty and that was it. I tell you Virg, she’s crazy!”

“Uh… huh.” Virgil isn’t entirely sure he believes all this, but he goes along with it, giving his brother’s shoulder a light pat. “Well, it can’t get any worse. You haven’t got any more eyes to bruise.”

He pauses, then adds, “…say, what are you going to tell Tin-Tin when she sees you?”

Alan just shrugged.  “I’ll just tell her the truth. I tried to be nice to some crazy woman and she punched me. Not like I was gonna punch a girl or anything in retaliation.”

“You flirted with some woman… and she punched you,” Virgil corrects, with a bit of a smirk.

“…Boy, good luck, Kiddo.”

“Trust me, that wasn’t flirting. If I had been flirting I’d be going on a–” Alan paused and looked up through his black eyes. “I am going on a date with her. HA! She actually did say yes! I’ve gotta go have Grandma make up a nice picnic and then call her and see when would be a good time to pick her up. Should I wear my black shirt, or the colorful one?”

“Huh? But…” Virgil’s lost now. One minute this girl was crazy, the next Alan was apparently actually going on a date with her? What?????

“You really are something else, Alan,” Virgil mutters, wondering where Tin-Tin is, because wow.

“You should see her Virg! Crazy or not she’s a beautiful blond haired angel! Plus it’s just a picnic. Nothing serious. Oh yeah, I told her I’d invite Tin-tin along as well. I bet go see that she’s free.”

“You what?” Oh. Oh Alan. Wow, is he ever about to make a bad situation worse. Perhaps some brothers would help him get out of the mess he’s about to create, but… He could use being brought down a peg or two…. or ten. Virgil isn’t helping with this mess--not Alan’s side of it, anyways. Tin-tin on the other hand…

“I think you’ll find she won’t be,” is the only warning he gives, making a note to go look find Tin-tin after Alan’s given her his invitation.
