i'll cut to the chase. you can't separate bell hooks from her spiritual beliefs (mahayana/vietnamese buddhism) and how that shaped a lot of her early 2000s writing. it's futile to expect her to be as strict and scathing as those feminist writers from the previous century.
In this conversation, bell hooks and Thich Nhat Hanh reflect on the enduring legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., and discuss how we can build
her last solo published book was over a decade ago; and having passed away 5 years ago, we don't have the chance now to discuss, challenge and even shed epiphany on newer perspectives for her.
that being said, the feminist thesis she published over twenty years ago were written from the perspective of an african american, reprimanding u.s patriarchy and trying to reach out towards black men with compassion. that, coupled with her adulation of buddism, is primarily why her books like The Will to Change leave a profoundly confusing impression upon most modern readers (foreigners esp).
Wanted to draw smth out of my comfort zone and to experiment with techniques more, (struggled a lot due to it) but really I just really liked looking and drawing Isabelle adjani :)
Hello 👋
I am a father of two children 👨👧👦 from Gaza 🇵🇸, currently living through extremely difficult humanitarian conditions after losing my home due to the war 💔, and I am now displaced far from my original place of residence.
Life here is filled with daily challenges 😔, especially when it comes to providing basic needs such as food 🍞, water 💧, and care for my children.
My children are everything I have in this life ❤️, and I am doing my best to provide them with the minimum level of safety and food, but the current situation is very hard, and sometimes I cannot even provide them with a proper meal during the day 🍽️.
I also want to be able to provide my children with their school needs 🎒, such as supplies, stationery ✏️, and basic materials that help them continue their education despite the difficult conditions 📚.
I am only writing this because I have reached a point where I can no longer manage on my own 😞. Therefore, I am asking for help from anyone who is able to support, even with a small amount 💵, as it may help feed my children or ease part of our suffering.
Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a big difference in our lives 🌱. And if you are unable to help financially, sharing this post 📢 could reach someone who can, and that would also be a great support for us.
I still believe there are kind hearts 🤍 that can help in times of need.
Thank you to everyone who read this post 🙏, and thank you to everyone who helps or shares the message.🥹👨👩👧👦

Oh snap!
“Nolan’s Odyssey lacks many of the elements that make the poem great. It has nothing convincing to say about time, memory, history, war, or about the relationship between one warrior’s glorious return and the lives of his family, adversaries, comrades, friends and neighbours. It lacks psychological, emotional, political and ethical depth. Its narrative structure is gimmicky. The writing is abysmal. None of the characters has convincing motivation for their actions or words. There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible.”

having reread all of wano arc, the need to compile my thoughts and observations in a substack post feels more appropriate.
the fact most of it was written during covid pandemic is what brings in the tragedy. the art style, the pacing, the umm lore.
honest to god, yamato is also one big can of worms here iwbh

The swords
One Piece chapter 1189! We've got the name of at least nine of the nineteen swords by the "empty throne".
Mythological references are fun, so I made a deep dive to find out what each of these weapons were named for!
怨魔剣 スティグマ ”Stigma”. A word meaning ”mark, spot, brand” in Greek. Possibly referring to the Christian concept of Stigmata (the wounds of Christ)? Meaning of kanji: ”Vengeful Magic Sword”
聖命槍 ロンギヌス ”Longinus”. The name of the Roman soldier who pierced Jesus’ side with a spear. It’s sometimes also used as the name of that spear. Meaning of kanji: ”Holy Life Spear”
混沌剣 トーフー ”Tohu”. Comes from the phrase ”tohu wa-bohu” in Genesis 1:2 of the Hebrew Bible. It describes the state of the world before Creation, and is hard to translate. A modern translation is ”formless and empty”. Meaning of kanji: ”Chaos Sword”
虚無剣 ボーフー ”Bohu”. Comes from the phrase ”tohu wa-bohu” in Genesis 1:2 of the Hebrew Bible. It describes the state of the world before Creation, and is hard to translate. A modern translation is ”formless and empty”. Meaning of kanji: ”Void Sword”
海神剣 フラガラッハ ”Fragarach”. The sea god Marannán’s sword in Irish mythology. Meaning of kanji: ”Sea God Sword”
憤怒剣 グラム ”Gram”. The hero Sigmund’s sword in Norse mythology. The name is etymologically related to ”grim”, and means ”angry”. (See latter-day Swedish ”gramse”) Meaning of kanji: ”Anger Sword”
天罰剣 ネメシス ”Nemesis”. The Goddess of divine retribution in Greek mythology. Meaning of kanji: ”Heavenly Retribution Sword”
村正 むらまさ ”Muramasa”. The name of a famous swordsmith in 16th century Japan. The name also refers to the swords he created. In pop culture, Muramasa swords are often depicted as cursed.
刑天の斧 けいてんのおの ”Xingtian’s axe”. Xingtian was a giant in Chinese mythology who fought against the supreme god. He’s mostly famous for fighting on even though he was decapitated. As such, he’s a symbol of the indomitable spirit to never give up no matter what.
I miss you spring…
Chinnamastā & the Lunar Nodes
there's a particular Devi in Hinduism who intrigues me. it's the sixth goddess from the 10 Mahāvidyas.
bhāsvanmaṇḍalamadhyagāṃ nijaśiraś chinnaṃ vikīrṇālakaṃsphārāsyaṃ prapibad galāt svarudhiraṃ vāme kare bibhratīm |yābhāsaktaratismaroparigatāṃ sakhyau nije ḍākinī -varṇinyau paridṛśya modakalitāṃ śrīchinnamastāṃ bhaje || 6.6 Mantramahodadhi
-a hymn to invoke and praise the beheaded goddess
My curiosity led me to discover how she has a predominant influence over the Nodes and what they represent. Detachment of the head from body included.
She is an intense deity to read about. Carrying her own head in her hands, she gleefully drinks her blood gushing out. The servants of the goddess are always seen drinking with her too. Interesting enough, this imagery is meant to be perceived as transcending physical reality.
Another key point is the overcoming or rather, conquering of sexual desire.
While I personally see much influence of Ketu over her, there's also a reasonable explanation as to how Rahu is appointed to her domain. Worshipping her helps in mitigating the malefic impression of Rahu over one, for she dispels illusions, confusion and deceptive energies.
Her head, while cut off, is still being clutched onto by one hand as she holds a sword in another.
The nodes are primary signifiers of the life-death cycle, which this goddess happens to potently symbolize. It should be noted that worshipping her is not for everyone and quite uneasy for some.
