what some people need to realize is that scum villain is the best fandom for effective autism headcanon speedrun strats. first off is shen yuan. now that we've established hes autistic we move to shang qinghua, who is also autistic. and since hes autistic, we can effectively argue that he wrote every character in PIDW as autistic because he was projecting!! with that, the only characters left to headcanon as autistic are shen yuans unnamed siblings. this is the greatest percentage and speed of autism headcanons out of all three mxtx novels

i think its fun to make shen jiu be the only one aware that he exists in a fictional universe and so thats why hes a villain. for one thing the parallels with shen yuan--a fictional man who knows hes fictional and doesnt care about the fictional lives of anyone around him, versus a real man who does care. and for another thing i think that that kind of realization inherently leads to being cast as a villain, because if you deride your world as being fictional, your world will deride you back. i like the idea of shen jiu's villainy existing not just in the text that shen yuan reads, but also in a meta sense in shen jiu's world. because he knows that the world is not real, the world has to erase him in order to maintain its 'realness'--the villain always dies in the story. and thats why shen yuan 'succeeds' as shen qingqiu, because he believes in the world and the people in it. whereas shen jiu failed because he wasnt playing the part of shen qingqiu, who is a wise and noble master--shen jiu was playing a part that had been deleted from the script, and he was aware that the rest of the script could be just as easily erased, and so the script had to act first.

i think part of why shen jiu hates yue qi so much is because sj thinks yq would rather sj had died as an innocent and abused child slave, specifically so that yq could have the perfect cultivator backstory. like we know that yq doesnt believe that, and we know that yq doesnt want to have a special backstory, but i think that its fun for shen jiu [as a consummate actor] to think that everyone else is also obsessed with how other people see them.
