Now THAT is a comfort to my dysphoric little heart. I'm 2 years, 2 months on T.
Two days until 2 years on T! It’s been a wild journey, but I’m glad I’ve stuck it out 💪
1 month on T to almost 2 years. What a difference time can make ☺️
High school freshman me vs college senior me, 1 year 9 ½ months on HRT
March is Women’s History Month and March 31st happens to be this years’ Transgender Day of Visibility, so what better way to celebrate than with a list.
Tall Lady Pictures writes:
Lili Elbe
Elbe was a Danish artist and illustrator and one of the first trans women to undergo gender confirmation surgery. […]
Her case became a sensation in both Germany and Denmark and a Danish court invalidated her marriage to Gottlieb. She was able to get her sex and name legally changed.
Elbe began a relationship with French art dealer Claude Lejeune, with whom she wanted to marry and have children, and was looking forward to her final surgery involving a uterus transplant, so that they could one day have children.
With no medication to prevent organ rejection, she did not recover from her final operation and died September 13, 1931 […] Elbe’s life is the subject of the 2015 Oscar nominated film “The Danish Girl”.
Wendy Carlos
Wendy Carlos is an Americn Composer and keyboardist best known her electronic music and film scores. Carlos help oversee the development of the Moog synthesizer, and help to popularize the instrument by recording an album of music by Johann Sebastian Bach called Switched-On Bach which won her three Grammy Awards. She also composed the scores for both, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining as well as Disney’s Tron.
Tracy Norman
Tracey “Africa” Norman was the first black trans fashion model, though she hid the secret of her gender identity as she rose through the industry in the 1970s. Norman was recruited for the Italian version of Vogue and quickly became a model, appearing in magazines and advertisements for such brands as Avon and Clairol. Norman said that she only went into modeling to avoid sex work, which she thought of as the only other outlet for a black trans woman from Newark, New Jersey, who had just begun taking hormones.
Around 1980, an assistant on an Essence magazine photo shoot who recognized her from Newark exposed her secret, and Norman stopped getting modeling work after that. She worked abroad in Paris and Milan before moving back to Newark, and only decided this year to tell her true story.
Sally Mursi
In 1988, Egyptian Sally Mursi sent a shockwave through the Muslim World when she changed her sex from male to female in Egypt. The case led to such a crisis in the country that the Grand Mufti was asked to decide on it. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawy, the Grand Mufti, released a fatwa, making it spiritually legal for a transgendered individual to change to his or her appropriate gender.
Martine Rothblatt
Martine Rothblatt is a lawyer, author and entrepreneur. She also happens to be the highest paid female executive in the US, and for good reason. She was a leading proponent of satellite communications, as well as former CEO of the Geostar Corporation and founder of Sirius Satellite Radio.
Kim Coco Iwamoto
In 2006 Iwamoto was elected to a position on Hawaii’s state Board of Education and became (at the time) the highest-elected openly transgender official in the United States. She ran for re-election in 2010 and won. See a video of Iwamoto discussing her support of an anti-bullying bill in Hawaii by clicking here.
Fallon Fox
Fallon Fox is the only out trans mixed martial arts fighter and the subject of the documentary Game Face. She has used her influence outside of the ring to bring attention to issues affecting trans youth, like ending conversion therapy.
Sadie Switchblade of G.L.O.S.S.
Sadie is the badass frontwoman of G.L.O.S.S. (Girls Living Outside Society’s Shit), a hardcore punk band out of Olympia, Washington. G.L.O.S.S. is crucial listening for punks who are hungry for music that vocalizes queer and trans experiences with brutal honesty Check out their bandcamp here: (https://girlslivingoutsidesocietysshit.bandcamp.com/releases)
Landa Lakes
Landa Lakes is a Native American two-spirit individual from the Chicasaw Tribal Community in Oklahoma, and an activist and drag performer. Regarding their self-chosen name, Landa said, “It’s a tongue-in-cheek reference for the famous butter mascot because I like to point out that even in today’s world we’re still using native people as mascots.”

Things they don’t tell you about top surgery
- Talk to the surgeon about the size you want your new areolas/nipples (don’t be afraid to ask)
- Numbness. No one talks about this for guys who are about to have surgery. You’re going to be numb all in your chest area, especially where the incisions were. They cut nerves as they pass along your chest, and it can take up to a year to regenerate those nerves. Still, feels super foreign for the first two weeks
- Make your bed into a pillow chair, body pillow, two on each side, and two for your head.
- Sleep alone. I tried to sleep with my girlfriend and it was miserable. You really do need the entire bed for yourself
- Go on Groupon, & get yourself a 10 foot lightning cable iPhone charger, BEST THING EVER, can reach from wherever you are
- Don’t take a week off from work, take two. You will regret the one week, and love the extra time
- When they say “don’t move too much, even after the first week”. LISTEN. I moved way too much and got so sore super quickly.
- Drink lots of water & eat if your taking the pain medication, otherwise your stomach feels super funky.
- Get stool softeners, & don’t be afraid to take those babies. Don’t wait a week to poop. you’ll surely regret it.
- The drains are scary & they may hurt while draining or rewrapping your dressings, but once they come out, the second they do, its no more pain, its crazy.
i hope this helps someone, because i wish i knew all of this when i was having mine a month ago. Looking back its like everyone forgets all the real negatives, its a great experience, & i healed very well & quick compared to most, but the first few days are crazy. They hurt, suck but it gets better.
To the few guys I know having surgery this week!
-the headache you get a couple days after the surgery because the anesthesia is leaving your body hurts 200 times more than the surgery itself. And even that isn’t too bad.
-after a week or, you ITCH. It’s awful. Try not to touch your stitches too much. An ice pack will help.
ATTENTION EVERYONE LOOKING TO RECEIVE FTM TOP SURGERY FROM DR HARTLEY IN BOULDER, CO
Myself, along with CSU LGBT Resource Center Director Aaric Guerriero can confirm that multiple students have been scammed by this doctor, who is changing the medical codes for the surgery post-op. This is resulting in $30,000 medical fees that should have been covered by insurances and were not agreed upon. He (Dr. Hartley) is taking advantage of the fight we have with the legal system to get covered by insurances and scamming trans individuals seeking care in the Colorado area. Please be safe and spread this information!!!
Guys seriously please spread this, we were almost affected by this. The front desk staff at his clinic in Boulder were so kind we had no idea. I saved up for so long to get this surgery I can’t imagine other guys loosing it all to this asshat
That’s Dr. Winfield Hartley of Boulder Plastic Surgery & IV Seasons Skin Care. Yelp link.
he puts up flys are places outside of Boulder, too
many lgbt youth groups ive been to have had his flyers outside or around the meeting area
please stay safe
Pre-T to 1 year 3 months on T! (he/him)
For future reference for any ftm boys wondering how to measure their chest. You measure over the nipple for chest/breast size and if it asks for rib cage size it’s underneath the breast 🙂
(P.S. You can use a piece of string if you do not have a clothing measuring tape just be sure to mark the string to be able to line it up with a ruler or other measurement tool)
Voice Deepening for Transgender People
Being transgender, your voice tends to give away who you are and so here is some advice to deepen your voice to pass better.
1. Slow down whilst you talk. It has been shown that when you talk slower than normal, your voice tends to drop. And it has been shown that with a slower speaking voice, you look more confident than others. Whenever you talk very fast, it shows that you’re less confident in yourself and your voice becomes higher. So try to make a conscious decision to slow when you talk.
2. Record your voice. When you hear how your voice sounds through your phone, it simulates what other people hear. So with that, you should record your voice to better understand how to deepen it a little bit better. Then with that, practice with your deeper voice so it isn’t straining whenever you talk to someone.
3. Play with your voice. Try going high and low all together to better understand your voice. With that information, you can learn if your voice is naturally high or low and work from there.
4. Experiment with your deepened voice. With voices, you need to practice with it in order to make it more natural. And with practicing, you must practice slowly with your new voice. You don’t want your voice to strain your throat and the way you can figure that out is by projecting your voice a little bit and see if it’s comfortable or not.
5. If you can afford it, take speech or voice acting lessons. With these classes, you can see as to how to speak properly to people. Your instructor will know how to exercise your voice a more professional way to do it.
If I have left something out, please do not hesitate to drop an ask to tell me what I left out. I hope this helps out my fellow transfolk out there.
