deltarune chapter 5 prediction (outdated)
deltarune chapter 5 is less than 4 days away (scary)
so heres my detailed theory/analysis on who i think the secret/crystal boss will be!
i originally posted this on twitter but it got NO traction whatsoever, so im posting it here now too. anyway enjoy!
lets talk about what even caused me to begin speculating on this to begin with. miss mizzle has some extremely interesting lines of dialogue during the first few turns of her fight that seem highly likely to be foreshadowing a character from chapter 5. if you chat with her about flowers, she says this:
this is the basis of my theory. i have no doubt in my mind that "the bluest flower" refers to a darkner based on the blue flower from asgores flower shop, flower king, and that we will meet this darkner, as well as the other flowers, in chapter 5's dark world. additionally, i believe the darkner based on the blue flower will be the secret boss of the chapter
i dont think i should have to argue my reasoning for why i think the next dark world will be in flower king. i mean, theres plant and flower imagery literally EVERYWHERE in the trailer. so, with this established, lets get into the more interesting stuff
lets answer some basic questions. first of all: how do we know this dialogue is specifically in reference the blue flower, and not some other character? well, these flowers are obvious parallels to the human souls from undertale, so its reasonable to believe the darkners based on them would have similar traits or personalities. in undertale, we learn that the human who owned the blue soul, the soul of integrity, was a ballet dancer. ballet is obviously an activity notorious for its elegance, and miss mizzle describes the bluest flower as elegant, and not camera shy, which both make perfect sense in this interpretation. the description of the bluest flower being "shy to no camera" is a particularly interesting phrasing hinting that this character may be a ballet dancer similar to the blue soul human. also, this could imply that we'll get a return of the blue soul mode! im not counting on it but it would be so awesome (please toby)
second question: how do miss mizzle and the blue flower know eachother? we can infer based off miss mizzles recruit description that shes the pitcher of water in alvins office, so if thats the case, how could she have ever met one of asgores flowers if the church is on the OPPOSITE side of town from flower king?
well, i think the connection is pretty obvious. miss mizzle was at one point used by asgore as a watering can to water the flowers in his shop, and thats how she was able to meet the blue flower. as for how how she ended up in the church is an answer i dont have at this moment, but i dont think it matters for the sake of this theory
now lets move on to some more speculation i have. as established by miss mizzles recruit description, she sees herself as royal and holy despite being just a simple pitcher of water. we know asgore has had trouble keeping his flowers alive in the past, and well, if my assumption is correct, it makes total sense why she would view herself this way. miss mizzle literally helped breathe life into asgores struggling flowers, and now she views herself almost as a god because of it. water has often been used to symbolize life or creation throughout history, and this depiction is certainly present in deltarune. after all, were all aware of the strong connections between water and darkness, and what are dark worlds if not imagination brought to life?
i think its likely that when we meet the flower darkners in ch5, or atleast the blue one, that theyll reference miss mizzle as a savior/mentor-like entity to them
with these assumptions in mind, lets finally ask an obvious question: what even is miss mizzles "speech" and what does she mean when she says that the bluest flower is a "disciple" of it? well, its pretty simple. i think her speech is literally just the dark world stand-in for her watering asgores flowers
think about it. we know that darkners do not just invent lore. everything they say happened to them actually did happen in some, way, shape, or form, even if its buried under layers of convoluted fantasy metaphors and flowery (ha) language. so with this in mind, what else would her speech even be? we know that the blue flower isnt the only disciple of miss mizzles speech. she specifically says "a" disciple, implying there are multiple. if the blue flower was the only one, she wouldve just said "the" disciple
is it possible that, in the dark world, the physical ailments experienced by the flowers translated instead to mental ailments, and miss mizzles speech was perhaps a sort of religious sermon she gave to the flowers to help improve their mental state? obviously this conclusion is mostly based on speculation, but i do think it makes a lot of sense! after all, what is the role of a mentor? to help their disciples grow, of course!
now, before i move on to some more of my evidence, i want to talk about the line "a specimen of elegance and kindness." this is very interesting wording; "specimen" is quite an unusual way to describe a person. it feels weirdly sterile and science-y, and it stood out quite a bit to me. so this got me thinking, does this word have any special meaning? lets look on merriam-webster and-
to me, these definitions immediately call back to one very important group of plants we see in deltarune. i think this wording is very intentional. theres no way this word was included without toby being aware of how it could be interpreted. these definitions quell pretty much any doubt i had that miss mizzles dialogue may be in reference to asgores flowers. especially the third definition, which outright mentions plants
now, im aware asgore doesnt really exhibit his flowers, but is it possible he may in chapter 5? we know he'll be selling flowers for the festival, so maybe he displays his colorful flowers in the front of his shop specifically for the festival? this is probably more speculation than its worth, but i figured i would mention it anyway
also, the second definition is interesting. it specifically mentions that the item in question differs from members of its group. this could be very subtle foreshadowing that the blue flower will be the only flower thats a secret boss, and this is the "distinguishing characteristic" in question. idk im just spitballing at this point
now, lets talk about this attack shown in the trailer. to me, this outright confirms that we will be battling each of the flowers in chapter 5. i believe that during this shot we're being shown a battle with the cyan flower, considering it uses the exact same bullet pattern as the cyan soul from undertale
now, why is kris alone in this battle? we know that every time theres a solo battle in this game, its part of a pivotal plot moment, so what could be happening in this case?
i think its possible that, at some point in the chapter, kris will be separated from the rest of the fun gang, and then they'll have to fight each of the flowers on their own, one being the blue flower who gives them the final shadow crystal. secret bosses have been becoming more and more intertwined with the central narrative as the chapters go on, so it would make sense if the final "secret" boss most likely ever was a required encounter to complete the chapter
finally, the last major piece of evidence for this theory. recently, the deltarune website was updated to show these very pretty graphics of...
... blue flowers?! these specifically seem to be blue roses, which is extremely interesting. blue roses dont occur naturally in the wild. the blue roses that get sold in flower shops have either been genetically modified, selectively bred, or dyed to be that color. hence, this specific choice of flower is very notable
blue roses symbolize the unattainable, achieving the impossible, the intersection of reality and fantasy, and most importantly for this discussion, they represent freedom. now obviously all of these themes are extremely secret boss-coded, ESPECIALLY the thing about freedom. you KNOW toby doesnt mess around when it comes to freedom, come on
one last random thing: toby recently made a tweet that pretty much immediately caught my attention
jumping... and spinning? like a ballerina?? blue soul mode??? is this more subtle foreshadowing????
yeahhhhh no i dont think this tweet is really quite as important as i originally thought, considering the japanese version of this same tweet says this:
its quite different from the english version... so this probably isnt foreshadowing at all. just toby being an excitable little dog ig
anyway thats my theory! hopefully if youre still reading you enjoyed what i had to say
before i end the post, i should probably acknowledge some questions i dont really have the answers to rn, and try to answer them to the best of my ability
first of all: why the blue flower in specific? what significance would this specific flower have, enough to be probably the final secret boss in all of deltarune? im not really sure. the color blue isnt exactly the most symbolically relevant color in deltarune, certainly not as much as pink & yellow or red, for example. it mainly symbolizes water, as well as ice/snow. its also the color of the pacify mechanic. theres also some evidence to suggest blue may occasionally represent electricity or holiness as well. as for what these themes mean for the blue flower, i dont think i can make a solid conclusion. regardless of what the blue flowers narrative significance is in the chapter, i feel pretty confident that theyll have some kind of past with kris or atleast the dreemurrs in general. i saw a pretty cool idea that the blue flower was toriels favorite of the seven flowers, and i thought that made a lot of sense (u can look at that post here btw if youre curious.) but yeah, im not sure why exactly the blue flower in specific would be the secret boss, i just feel like all the foreshadowing has to mean something, yknow?!
anyway, another question that feels obvious to ask: why would the blue flower have a shadow crystal? and yeah idk about this one either. i assume it would be given to them by the same character(s) that presumably gave the crystals to the other bosses, be it gaster or friend or the knight or any combination or variation thereof. however, as to the exact narrative reason why the blue flower would be chosen im not sure. it just remains to seen when the chapter drops
okay thats ACTUALLY everything now. im gonna go back to deltarotting until i can actually play the chapter and see if im right or not. oh also, i made a bingo card for myself using this persons template to play along with during the chapter, so i figured id share it here as well. feel free to use it
im fairly?? confident on most of these predictions? i mean, some im a little shaky on but theres nothing on here that i find genuinely unlikely or anything. also theres a space for my secret boss prediction yay
(also if you need elaboration on what any of these spaces entail ill be happy to explain in the comments)
also yes ik this post is long as fuck no im not adding a readmore. look at my theory oooo 🌀
