Okay, the linked tweet encapsulated exactly something I wanted to say so I'm putting it in picture format. The abilities of The Devil and The Angel literally mirror each other. It would explain some of the strange occurances that The Knight/The Devil would be responsible for imo.
I went off about this in a previous post but I thought a fun infographic could help explain my thoughts.
this clip absolutely popped off on twitter, so ill put it here too
was watching mollystars's most recent deltarune stream and she pointed something out about friend that i havent seen a single other person in the deltarune theory sphere mention yet
i edited down this clip to only include the most important parts, but the full unedited clip can be viewed here (timestamped)
this implication is fucking TERRIFYING. if friend can physically edit the map and mess with meta elements/the device layer itself, then our potential future encounter with them is going to be SCARY AS FUCK. everyone start getting afraid
(btw if you cant see the friend face in the darkness click the readmore for a zoomed in image)
its extremely hard to see especially bc this clip is already quite low quality, but there is indeed a completely blacked out IMAGE_FRIEND sprite barely visible in the ripples
I don't know whether to call this theory or speculation, so maybe it's a third word? Hypothesis?
I don't know if this is device theory, gaster theory, fiction theory or whatever the fuck theory it is. This is what I think, or rather it's an idea that's come to me, but isn't set in stone yet. A lot of the ideas aren't concrete yet, and this post is messy and all over the place, so I am sorry for that. But here's the gist of it.
There's nothing on the other side of the lake, or at least maybe there isn't supposed to be.
Just like if you were to go out of bounds in some of the earlier chapters, you couldn't see what was on the other side of the lake because there was nothing there.
You can't see past the horizon, because there wasn't meant to be anything past the horizon.
There's nowhere outside of Hometown. There is no college for Asriel to go to. Maybe there isn't even an Asriel, and only the memories of him, same with December. Hell, maybe all December was 'made' for was to incentivise the Idea that somewhere, just out of view, was the place she went.
But the fact is, outside of everything in the game, there is Nothing. Because there is no code for it.
So when the 2 of You decide to go out and push that boundary, decide to see just what is there beyond the horizon? It breaks. There was no accounting for this possibility.
Now what that means for Chapters 6? I'm not sure. Maybe somehow Chapter 6 will also have us being wherever Breaking the simulation leads. But instead of having it happen in Chapter 6, you just. Did it early. You broke the game early...
But maybe that's a good thing?
Maybe this is one way of fulfilling the goal of "Accomplishing that which is impossible"?
If this whole "experiment", "connection", whatever you wanna call it, was conducted by Gaster, then maybe this is a favorable outcome.
You were Determined to push the boundaries, and you manage to spread that "Determination" to a Monster! You did it ! You have shown that it is possible to give Monsters that "Determination"! You won!
And in the grand scheme of things, how much did it truly cost Hometown? The lives of a couple of inanimate objects, and one child. That is all that was lost... and we already know that Hometown is no stranger to Lost Children, don't we?
...But besides all of this. Besides the theories about what this could all be, the purpose it could serve, and why such a thing is possible?
I have to give it to Toby Fox, because this shot, right here?
While Noelle in this segment deserves her own post, Kris here, too, deserves one(which I may make). Because this shot of them, more than any other shot in the game before this, drives home that Kris is not You. Kris is a child. A child whose friend you have driven to this point. A child that had nothing when this story began, and somehow lost everything else they didn't know they had.
They were a child with a best friend they'd lost. And you took their bond, their connection, and warped it into an old, mangled rope that dragged the both of them down into the depths of absurdity and despair.
All for the chance, the wonder at the idea, the possibility, that things could be different. And now, faced with the fact that things will be different. I have to wonder.
Will it be worth it? Could it possibly be worth it?
Oh my god. The weird route noise is just, like, an error noise aimed at whoever is using the DEVICE, isn't it. Like "hey you just did something wrong, it's not bad enough to crash everything but it was still a bad input"
Oh my god. Wow. A third part of me talking about Chapter 5 Snowgrave! I’m sorry, but there is so much to talk about is crazy! As per usual, BIG CHAPTER 5 WEIRD ROUTE SPOILERS AHEAD!!! DONT READ IF YOU DIDNT PLAY IT YET OR DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENS YET!!!
Alllllllright, here we are again! I thought I was done with the weird route, but I noticed some very, very interesting things that I really wanted to share with you! So, first on the list:
The punch card! I couldn’t find a picture from the Weird Route, but Susie draws the punch card in the weird route also! Sans tells her to draw ‘you and your friends, so I can remember you’. Keep that in mind. So she draws (in the Weird Route) Kris, herself, and Ralsei. Then hands it to him. And now, I don’t know if you remember this, but this appears in Sans’s lab in Undertale!!!!!!!!
“Don’t Forget”?!?!?!? “So I can remember you”?!?!?!?!?!
I genuinely didn’t see anyone else talking about this! So either I’m under a rock or I’m the first to figure this out! Oh my god! It’s crazy! AHHHHH!!! This is an actual, almost completely solid connection to Undertale and not just a parallel!
Now, to the oh so famous Lake Scene, as I like to call it. Noelle says the following:
Makes sense within the scene, right? But this word being highlighted reminded me of one particular thing from Undertale… specifically…
ENTRY 17! I’m sure you haven’t heard this name in a while! I know it seems a bit far-fetched connecting the two from the word ‘interesting’, but bear with me! We treated entry 17 like Gaster was talking about UNDERTALE, and that the darkness comments were about him getting ripped apart in the core or whatever, BUT
BUT
IF WE SWITCH THE LENS OVER TO DELTARUNE
THE DARKNESS IS THE DARK FOUNTAINS
DARK DARKER YET DARKER
“WHAT IF YOU COULD GO DARKER THAN DARK” RALSEI IN CHAPTER THREE SAYS IT HIMSELF
AND NOW THAT WE THINK OF THE EXPERIMENT AS KRIS DELTARUNE, DEVICE THEORY STYLE
HE CALLS KRIS VERY, VERY INTERESTING
NOELLE CALLS KRIS INTERESTING
THE LAST LINE IS “WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK”
HE COULD VERY EASILY MEAN KRIS AND NOELLE
AND
IN THE THANK YOU SURVEY IF YOU ANSWERED “THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE” TO THE LAST QUESTION OF “WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE”
THERES A SPECIAL MESSAGE
ABOUT TWO HOURS AFTER THE GAME RELEASED
ITS SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF
“So? What did you think?”
WHAT DID YOU THINK
WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK
ALSO AND I JUST LOOKED THIS UP
OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE THANK YOU SURVEY AND MAKE IT TO THE LAST QUESTION
