What do you guys think? I liked my glass painting, but it was hard to get clean edges. I did not paint her skin because I kept putting her in different walls so she would be different colors. Also I had painted one of the scientist that helped develop the covid vaccine. I wanted to end on a hopeful note. This semester was nice. I hope my color theory is better. It was kind of bad before but now I think I improved even if it was a little.

*Sigh* its kinda surreal looking back on the progress made during this semester. I learned A LOT in this class, and I'm looking forward to further developing my creativity. I can't to have another class with you, Professor, and I hope to see many of my other classmates in Painting II as well.
omg your plexiglass painting looks soooo goooood. It is so clean!! my lines were so messy. I really like the colors too. Also the waves remind me of that one japonese painting heheh
Week 13: Discordant
I really enjoyed using the masking technique to really capture crisp clean lines. I plan on using this technique sometime in the future. I did notice, depending on the lighting, depends how the photo turns out in white and black and also how the color dries is a factor.

Suellen Roca
Suellen Roca was one of the original members from the Hairy Who. The first time they ever exhibited together was in 1966 ( omg the year my mom was born). She actually was an art professor in Elmhurst college and a curator there too. I just read that 2020 took her in March 😔😔😔. Her artwork presents a lot of things she liked and dislikes, her experience as a newlywed and mother.
It personally caught my eye because it looks messy and I liked how she used dull complementary colors to have a subtle contrast and composition
I am terrified to paint on it I don't want to mess it up 😭😭

Discord Colors in process
I use transparent green as my background color. The main object is an abstract giraffe. However the work is unfinished, and I am thinking about how to make the whole painting more interesting. I mean just a giraffe in the center of the painting is odd.
Really cute painting so far, can’t wait to see when it’s done the colors look great so far
I think adding different shapes on the giraffe that mimic the spots would work, maybe geometric hair or even adding a sun/tree

So I kinda hate this painting not gonna like. I feel like I made the colors too dark because I wanted rick values but since acrylic dries so dark. It make it extra darkkkkkkk. I want to redo with different colors. Also the masking technique was working for me in the beggining towards the end I do not how it started messing up so my edges were not as clean.
These was my color palettle in the begging. I was using a black and white camera to check if the colors had the same gray. That's how I ended up with blue, green and purple

I feel like I made a mistake the minute I put this blue down. Hahaha. It dried so dark. Now I had to figure what colors could be dissonant with this one.
Abstract con Discordant
4 layers of gesso, 2 coats of my base paint, and 2 sets of discordant colours LATER..
Also, I really appreciated everyone’s input on my collage options. But after seeing the instructions for the painting, I switched up Option 4 and combining it with the flow of Option 1-3. Option 4 didn’t have a lot of touching pieces, whereas Option 1-3 almost everything was connected. I noticed this after Professor picked 1-3 over 4. This is what I decided on. I even assigned the pieces to colours already.
Nice I like that you put your paints in little containers, one mistake I do all the time is that I make too little and then I have to try to make the same tint of the color again. Most of the time I am slightly off and it bothers me so I cover the whole thing lol.
Geometric Collage Exercise
Here’s different arrangements I came up with for the collage from the first to the last. The last one was more for fun as the image came to me with the shapes (I know we weren’t really suppose to make it a “thing” but I had to as I couldn’t unsee it). For me I’m kind of liking the third one the best of all, perhaps even the fourth. It was a cool exercise overall, it’ll be nice to paint.
I love these colors together! I like the 2nd and 3rd ones the most. Something about the arrangement is pleasing to me. And I like your abstract human man!! Lol. He reminds me of a lego Johnny Bravo, the cartoon show from Cartoon Network.
I love the 5th one cause it looks like a little cartoon character haha

For this week I would like to introduce you to a not very well known artist. His name is Luigi Tarini and he creates digital collages from old historical paintings and modern celebrities. I honestly was amazed at well he matches the poses pf the pictures. I really like this style like I do not know how to describe it but it makes sense when you look at it.

I wish I could tell you more about his life but since he is kind of small in the art world not much of his life is out there.

This is My collage.
I was cutting a bunch of random shapes and at the end I ended up deciding in these. What do you think. My boyfriend likes the yellow one because he thinks it looks like a bird haha. I did not even mean to do that lol
Colored Paper Collage
I was inspired by Jean Arp’s artwork so I went forth making these organic and bubbly shapes. After cutting them out, I liked how the shapes seem to complement each others forms (like a puzzle). So I played with that idea on the top two compositions. The right one is separated by color. The bottom right has the shapes touching each other and the shapes look as though they are circulating around the little yellow circle. The bottom left explores symmetry. I believe all of these compositions has a flowy movement to them. But the composition I’ll paint is this one:
I chose this one because it looks like the face of a dog in an abstract way, reminiscent to the style of cubism. Also, I think that the interaction of the shapes work well.
Do you guy’s agree or think another variation works better?
I like your shapes!!! I think the one you like the most, works well and I do see the dog face. I also like the one that looks like a man with a hat and four arms! 😌 That’s my favourite!! Also, I’m impressed that you got this from being inspired by Hans Arp.

This is my progress post for my collage painting so far. This may just be my favorite assignment yet and I’m having a great time creating this piece. So far I only worked on establishing my color palette and painting my background. I was very interested in using the colors tinted with the white because the lighter tints caught my eye more while creating the color wheel and I think they do a good job at emphasizing the mood I wanted the background to portray. I’m going to work on finishing up the astronaut with the medieval helmet this upcoming week.
I love the colors you’re using for the background so far. It’s like a dessert sunset. Can’t wait to see the rest!
