The Pilots of Last Halloween
Lately my mum got into contact with her old pen pale from when she was in primary school. Her pen pal lives in Germany and told her a story about her nephew who works as a delivery boy. Last Halloween he finished work early and was on his way home when he spotted two women by the side of the road, they looked lost, they were also dressed as pilots. Thinking they were on their way to a Halloween party, he stopped and asked if they'd like a lift. They just stared at him blankly, he then asked them where they wanted to go, with this they looked at their phones, waving impatiently for the signal to connect. After a while they showed him their phones, he looked and noticed that they had given him directions to a hotel in Cologne, which he knew well, so he let them in his car.
As they traveled, the women said nothing. They were dressed as pilots, complete with caps, and oversized trench coats. Hans, (the nephew), felt slightly uncomfortable, but didn't know why. There was a chill in the car, even though the heater was on.
After about 30 minutes, they got to the hotel, the women just got out without thanking him, feeling upset and frustrated that he had helped them and they didn't thank him, he began to drive home, then he noticed the caps and trench coats. He drove back to the hotel and handed them to the receptionist at the front.
The next day, the hotel called, saying that two men would like to speak to him. He headed back to the hotel were the men hand him back the caps and coats, the women were standing behind them crying. The men turned sadly to Hans, 'These belonged to our daughters, they were pilots. They were both killed in a plane crash last week, not far from here'. Hans looked at them in confusion, "But they're right there, behind you." he explained, but the women had gone.
