Kazan Metro was the seventh opened in Russia, and the fifteenth in the former Soviet Union region. Opened on August 27, 2005, it is the newest system in Russia.

Its design is gradient of two different attitudes to the issue of 'what is the modern Kazan about?'. From the peripheral stations to the stations in the central part you can see changes of their design - from the 'technological modernity' to 'pseudo-historicism' and back.
