The guy that plays my boyfriend, Evan Williams, became sort of my partner in crime, we both committed to their love for each other, and we went for it. […] The two show runners, Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft, came up to me very early on and said, “The truest relationship in this whole series is the one between Philippe and Chevalier”, Louis has a relationship with six/seven women in the show, and they are either driven through religion, duty, passion, lust, but it is never based on love. And we needed to make sure to portray this relationship between these two guys, and needed to make sure it was love that we showcased.
“So loved and so, so missed.”

The way their relationship is dealt with is one of the things I'm most proud of. The only relationship based on true love is the one between Philippe and Chevalier. We show the rise and fall of that relationship, the hearthbreak, then them getting back together. The reason I'm so proud of this is that not once do other characters mention that the two of them are gay. It's dealt with in a beautiful, raw way.

“ We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are. ”
