Jaune let out a sigh of relief once Pyrrha had cheered up. He gave her his best smile next. True, he was in a bit of a rough spot, but he hadnât seen Pyrrha in person in over a year! Meeting up with her was cause enough to celebrate as far as he was concerned.
âIâm glad youâre here too Pyr. Iâm really looking forward to seeing you more often; I mean, youâve always been important to me, but you were so far. Seeing you over the scroll just isnât quite the same. I can hardly wait to actually to start class now!â His grin grew brighter as he spoke as he heard the truth in his own words and grew more excited.Â
He nearly hugged her for a moment, before thinking better of it; he simply didnât know if Pyrrha would enjoy it like he would or feel uncomfortable. He wouldnât want to ruin their reunion because he was thoughtless, so he held himself back.
Then his smile dimmed. He was going to be behind the class. Very, very far behind the class, even if he both survived and passed the test tomorrow. Pyrrha on the other hand was a prodigy. Jaune had watched her in all her tournaments, cheering for his friend, though she couldnât hear him. And she had always won.
He tried to shake the thought away, but it was persistent. Surely she wouldnât throw him away, just because he couldnât fight, right? It didnât change the person he was, and she hadn never cared about his lack of skill before⌠But then again, youâve never lied your way into an academy before, have you? His mind replied smoothly.Â
He realized heâd been frowning, and rubbing at the back of his head nervously; it was a habit of his. He forced himself to stop, and tried to exchange his worry back for the joy heâd had before the thought had occurred to him.Â
âWhy donât we go for a walk first? Itâs really pretty night, you know? Itâd be a shame not to look at the stars for at least a little bit more.â He suggested, his mind still racing around everything that could go wrong in the coming days.
Pyrrha nodded. Itâs too bad that Vale and Mistral are so far apart, or else Iâd have tried to visit more often. But it was a long flight from Mistral to Vale, and more than that, it could be expensive depending on when you were going, so her parents hadnât wanted to spend the money if it was going to be a shorter trip. Since sheâd be staying here in Vale for the next four years, it had definitely been worth the money.
I hear the teachers here are supposed to be very good, she added, hoping to encourage him. Iâve never met any of them personally, but I think weâll be in good hands. The Beacon website hadnât mentioned a lot on the faculty and staff, but most had seemed like relatively well-renowned Huntresses and Huntsmen, and just because she hadnât recognized some of the names, didnât mean the teachers werenât any good.Â
The red-haired girl wasnât sure if she had prepared enough--sometimes, she knew professors liked you to read ahead on different subjects, but she hadnât seen anything like that thus far. And Beacon was a very prestigious academy, so their academic standards were probably decently high. Although, it was true that it was the only second-level academy in the region, so perhaps the teachers wouldnât be quite so ruthless?Â
She returned her attention to Jaune once she realized sheâd been getting lost in her own thoughts. At this point, it wouldnât matter how prepared she was--initiation was tomorrow, so sheâd just have to wait and see what it was like. Hopefully it would be a simple trial, but the universe could always prove her wrong.
Sure! She flashed a bright smile. A walk sounds like a lovely idea, and itâd be good to stretch a bit. And we can catch up on how things have been over the years! I think I saw a walking path that way, over on the other side of the fountain. She pointed just past the fountain, where a little path could be seen snaking away from the cobblestones of the main pathway.Â
