Let's Talk About Euphoria Season 2 - Everybody's Useless
I was waiting for the season to end before I said my mind. Now that it's done and dusted, I've got a couple of things I need to get off my chest.
Euphoria season 2 was the Cassie show with a side of Fez. Rue was only remembered later on because, why not. She's the "lead".
However, the entire season was about the stupidity that was Cassie and the disadvantage that was Fezco.
Cassie never learns. She was a lead character that made stupid decisions from the beginning to the end without learning a damn thing.
She was a bully who only had muscle for her family but was quieter than a corpse for others. What tripped me the most was why Levinson never dealt with Cassie's abortion.
Women don't just abort and move on; there's always pain and guilt there. But not Cassie, though: she just goes around being a psychotic bitch with zero consequences.
I want to know why Elliot is even in the show? He was grade A useless. All the things he did could have been done by Faye because:
a. he was not a love interest;
b. he didn't create a love triangle - they tried, but it fell flatter than a fresh pancake;
c. there was barely any school activity shown to justify why his character had to be a student.
I repeat, everything he did could have been done by Faye. We didn't need Jules to cheat to make the show more dramatic or be the reason why she found out about Rue's relapse.
We could have had Faye and Rue meet, become fast friends. Rue starts skipping school to do drugs - she almost overdoses one day, and Fez has to call Jules. Jules finds out and takes Rue home instead of her (Jules) house. Leslie finds out, and it becomes the thing that was episodes 4 and 5.
We didn't need Elliot - AT ALL.
This is for Mr Sam Levinson - why did you retire your format? Rue, giving us a brief/update on everybody was super brilliant.
Why did you have to fuck that up?
If you had kept that format, we would have had things like:
a. An episode on Jules detailing where she went to at the end of season 1. What she did and why she came back. It would have also explained how it affected her father, but instead, we got NOTHING.
b. An episode on Kat's relationship with Ethan and why she had become so bored of him. We get to find out all the things she wanted to experience, but Ethan didn't want to do and how that led to the breakdown of their relationship.
c. An episode on Cassie and how she dealt with her abortion. What it did to her relationship with Mckay and all the times she struggled to tell him but couldn't.
d. An episode on Gia, Maddie, Ali, Leslie, Cassie and Lexi's mom.
If you had stuck to your original format, the show would have been more engaging and cohesive. It wouldn't have needed to rely on nudity and shock to pull in the numbers.
Euphoria did the following characters dirty:
Even though Nate was everywhere in season 2, he felt like an appendage. Like he was just a device in someone else's story, unlike season 1, where he was truly part of the story - an important part.
Sidenote: they need to stop teasing Nate's sexuality because I don't care at this point.
Nate in season 1 had a presence. He had a story. He was proactive.
Nate in season 2 was just a dick without a cause. A dildo for Cassie. A memory for Maddy and an asshole to dad. He had no purpose - just a prop in different stories without an ounce of depth.
Why weren't plot points explored from her perspective?
Why didn't we learn about her trip?
Why weren't we told the reason why her father is now wary of Rue?
#Justicee4Kat because I have never seen a more USELESS main character in my entire life.
First of all, what the FUCK was with all those imaginary women talking to her?
Why weren't we briefed on the breakdown of her relationship with Ethan?
What happened to her cam girl career? Was she ever tempted to go back? What did she miss about it?
Kat basically replaced B.B. this season as all she did was cheer and hold on to Maddie whenever necessary.
Those are my thoughts on Euphoria season 2. If I didn't complain about something, then that means I enjoyed it - I guess.
