Felicity: Find Kitten

Once Roxy had explained to her what exactly a cat garden was and what it entailed, Felicity nodded eagerly. “Okay! I can do that!” She agreed, looking from Roxy to the kitten and back again.

“What are we going to name it? I don’t know if it’s male or female, so I haven’t thought of anything.” The sophomore explained with her phone app, scratching the kitten’s chin gently. It was just too cute, and Felicity was glad they were going to keep it!

“Hmmm, this cat looks to me like a Slinus Marlevort, don’t you think?” Roxy knelt down beside the bed, putting herself in eye level with the kitten. “Marlie for short!”

She pokes Marlie at the hip and watches them leap around and meow at the offending finger. “Once you’ve got a good spot, hit me up alright.” Roxy winks, and buries her face in the makeshift cat bed. “This is gonna be good!”

D nods.” I’ve had some good stuff before. But that’s not that point.” He says and sets the cabinet down. He begins to pour some of the booze out into the sink,wolf whistling when he reads some of the bottles. Holy shit, there was some good shit in the cabinet. But he could get his own when he wanted some and he had to make sure that it was all gone.

D smiles softly and turns to the girl.” That’s great, I’m proud of you.”

The swirling scent of the booze going down was enough to ignite memories of being lightheaded and distant. But Roxy knew this was for the best. She tried to snap out of it, there were more than enough shelves of booze at home that she might accidentally find herself conjuring up if she didn't.

"Yeah, tell that to my mom." Roxy's chest ached at the thought of anyone being proud of her over this. "Alright, pretend I didn't say that. Shit. But I mean. Thanks."

D smirks and shakes his head.” I dont want it in my room. I want it down the drain.” He says, wondering if he should start doing more routine checks of her room-making sure that she wasnt going to get any more booze from out of thin air. 

D raises an eyebrow when he notices how hard she was pushing the cabinet. Holy shit, there had to be a lot of booze in there or the girl wasnt very strong in her upper body. D waits for the girl to ask him to help before he begins to push the cabinet towards his room, there was a sink in there and he really didnt want to pour this much booze down the shared bathrooms sink. 

“I believe you. Just dont let me see this in your room again.” He says.

"Some of this swill is like half a decade old, but suit yaself." Roxy lifted the cabinet from one side and let D help her awkwardly carry it down to his room. She wondered what would happen once they all went home and had to deal with her mom finding an empty space in the lounge where this cabinet once was. She'd hopefully be calm enough to vanish it back home soon enough, but also didn't really want to think of it at all after this.

"Trust me, I don't even wanna see this in my room again."

D stumbles a little bit when he felt the girl bolt into her room, not expecting her to be this anxious to get back into her room. The thought that she really wanted to get back to something made D tempted to stay around longer and take a closer look around the room, just in case something was going on here. 

When the white couch appears into the room, D takes a step back and slides his shades up-rubbing his eyes. He knew that he should get more sleep but there was no way that he could start seeing things just because he was a little sleep deprived. That didn’t happen, right? 

D slides his shades back down and he looks around the room, no longer really caring about the white couch. He had a feeling that Roxy had brought it into the room. But he hears the sound of something small rusting around the room he looks back to the couch and his mouth drops slightly. Those were cats. But it wasn’t like having cats on campus were that big of a deal, there was a cat girl that was a student. 

But what did catch D’s eye was the liquor cabinet, he shakes his head and bites his lip. The fact that it was half full made him worry more.” I can forget about the cats. But you are going to have to hand over the booze.” He says. He could ignore some of the rules-but not all of them.

"Please, be my guest. Take it all! I will personally hand-deliver the invitations for a staff party in your fuckin’ office with this finely aged shit, because I sure as hell don't want it!"

Roxy let's herself back into the room and starts dragging the cabinet toward the door. It was heavier than she thought. "You want this in your room or something, let's go for it, right now!" Roxy huffed over the giant hunk of polished wood and glass. She just wanted it gone and fast. "Just don't invite my mom over or nothing. Pretty sure she bought this in France and would recognize it in a heartbeat. Also a lil help here?"

She looks him in the eyes and stops her frenzy for a moment. "I promise I didn't mean for this to happen."

D nods.” I would be pretty freaked out if I was able to pull shit out of nothing. Though I would try to see how much random shit I could get for myself.” He says and leans against the wall, watching her own hands. He assumed that she was still trying to get her card back. So he wasn’t going to talk, not wanting to break her focus. 

He takes the card into his hand and swipes it, the door light glowed green and there was the sound of the lock unlocking. He opens the door and pokes his head in. “Well, thats a room.” He says, not really wanting to give her a inspection. She looked like she had a rough day.

Roxy sighs in relief when he gets the door open, finally. He takes a quick look inside, first, and something inside of her shifts. Relief turns bittersweet as she thinks of how it wasn't home, but it would have to do. But as soon as that thought struck her, goosebumps ran through her. Roxy suddenly knew the day was just about to get longer.

She shoves past D just as he's turning around to see the room for herself. Her mind was in too frazzled a state to be longing for the comfort of homes without consequence. The first thing Roxy sees when she leaps into the room is a giant white couch blinking into existence in the middle of her dorm room, one she recognized from the living room back home. A tiny cat - fuck, three tiny cats - make themselves known by climbing out from behind the furniture. And at the edge of her desk now sits a small liquor cabinet, stocked at least half-full from what she could tell.

Oh damn she'd really done it this time.

She backs away and slams the door shut in her own face, not willing to see the mess she'd just gotten herself into. She would will it all away right this moment if only her thoughts we're racing far too fast to concentrate. The RA is still behind her, and she turns around and gives him a sheepish smile. "You... didn't see any of that, did you?"

D sighs. “A guy can hope.” He says and starts to wonder what this girl was going to do in order to get his card back if she didn’t have a tracker on the card. D raises an eyebrow and nods. “Yeah. This counts as an emergency. You get a free pass.” He says, and moves to her side, covering whatever the hell she was doing from students in the common room. 

He watches what happens and his eyes widen when he sees the card in her hand.” Holy fu-freaking su-shit.” He says. He was trying to clean up his language. He was a teacher and should at least talk like one. “ How did you do that?”

"Holy fucking shit, I know right? That's what I thought when this junk all started happening." Roxy smiled to herself. This guy was more nonchalant than she thought, he didn't seem to know anything about her. It was refreshing, being the kid of one of the teachers. Most faculty wouldn't get off her back about this weird thing of hers, and here he was is awe over it like one of the freshmen.

Roxy hoped the card she'd gotten was actually his. It probably was. She could always check later. Right now she was waiting for the moments when the card flickered back into existence to swipe it. Damn she was letting herself get rusty.

"Here," she shoved the card into his hands. "I'm obviously having issues, and this is yours anyway." She absenlty tugged on the tips of her hair and hoped he could get the door open so she could finally just lie down already.

D takes his hands out of his pockets and runs his fingers through his hair while nervously chewing on his lip, trying to remember where he saw his key last. He could have sworn that it was in his pockets. He tries to calm the look of panic when two other students walk down the hall. They didn’t need to know what was going down. 

He raises an eyebrow when the girl says that she knew what he was looking for. Part of him wondering if she had seen it on the floor-if the card had fallen out of his pocket while he was walking out of the dorm this morning. If it had, he had a feeling that he wasnt going to get it back. There were a few students on campus that liked to take things. 

“You can? How? Do you have a tracker on it or something?” He asks and nods.” I’m sure.”

"You think I'm one of them kids? Nah I aint got no tracker on it, damn." She laughed at that. She realized she hadn't laughed in a while, and how nice it was. That was good. She needed to be in a better state of mind to be able to do this right.

Roxy maneuvers herself a bit so that what she's doing is hidden behind their bodies. "I'm not reeeally supposed to just do this kind of thing all willy nilly. Least not at school. But this counts as an emergency, yeah?"

She rubbed her hands together and held them before herself in a ball. She mostly just did this for effect, because it made her feel like some kind of cool wizard or something. But she would swear to anyone that it really did help the process along. Roxy closed her eyes to mentally seek out the key card - wherever the fuck it is - and concentrated on feeling the contours of it with her mind. Eventually the feeling she imagined of the card in her hand solidified itself as a reality, and she opened her eyes.

It was flickering a bit, but there was the card in her palm . "Sweet."

D watches the girl try to get into her room again and he crosses his arms over his chest. The girl did have her card with her. It was just that the card wasn’t fully there. It was weird and the card seemed to go in and out of this demension. 

He shakes his head and reaches into his pocket, getting ready to pull out his copy of the master card to the senior building. He had it just in case something bad was going down and he had to get into a students room. “You were just what?” He asks and chuckles.” I guess you got that going for you.” He says. 

When D doesn’t feel the card in his right pocket, his heart drops and he frowns. He moves his hand into his left one and searches around. His skin paling when he didn’t feel the card in that pocket. He couldn’t have lost it. He knew that it was in his pocket. It had to be.

Realization dawned upon her that the look of mild panic on his face is that of one who has lost something. This was unsettling for a few reasons, one being that D was notoriously chill for faculty and yet here he was sweating a little. Apparently there was something inside of Roxy conspiring to keep her out of her dorm room today. "Shit, I know exactly what you are looking for. Shit." It was a key card that allowed him into any dorm in the senior building. She'd seen it before; it looked like any other card, only with a bigger logo on it as though that got across the vip vibes better or something. Maybe she could actually do this... "Okay wait we might be able to get it back. I mean, I might be able to. But, uh, first I gotta know. Do you think you lost it? Or you do think maybe... I lost it?"

D Strider was walking up and down the halls of the senior dorm room. He was making his rounds, making sure that students rooms where clean enough to see the floor. He runs his fingers through his hair as he climbs the stairs, getting ready to see the messes that were on the 3rd floor of the building. He had noticed that the higher the floor, the less that the students payed attention to their dorms. 

He walks into the common room, making sure that there werent any students that were hanging out here in order to try and hide from room inspection. When he didnt find any, he turns and starts to knock on the doors. He would peek his head into the room and if he could see the floor, he would nod and let the student close the door. If he couldn’t see the floor, then he would tell the kid to clean it up and he would be back the next day. 

Once he was done with one side of the room, he turns and starts to walk towards the other side. He raises an eyebrow when he sees a girl standing in front of her dorm room, looking down at what seemed to her empty hand even though her fingers were curled around the air-like there was something in her hand. 

He makes his way over to the girl and clears his throat.” You having some trouble getting into your room?” He asks.

“Uuuuuuhhh.” Roxy whipped around to see the senior dorm RA had been behind her. Right now Roxy really wished she could just be done with today. She wished she could be home in her own room listening to Rose read to her about wizards. She wished she’d never gotten this strange ability that accidentally vanished cats and couches from her life on occasion. And she wished she didn’t want a drink right now.

But Roxy liked to look on the bright side of things. At least this particular D guy never seemed to make a huge riot out of things as an RA. “Nope, I got it! It’s all cool I was just. Hrm.” Her mouth twisted into a funny little grimace. She swiped the sliver of card one last time, before turning back to him and holding it up for him to see.

“At least it’s still blinkin’, right?”

Three students and a faculty member offered hello's to her on her way to her dorm, but polite absent-eyed waves aside, Roxy's mind was elsewhere. She'd always been a good student, but with her thoughts preoccupied Roxy had allowed the books to pile sky high. The workload teetered on a fragile foundation of sisterly concern over her robotic sibling, a deep-seated compulsion to avoid her mother, and an ever-growing lack of self preservation; it all threatened to come tumbling down upon her at any moment. Now was the time when escape into the void at the bottom of the bottle felt the most appropriate.

Roxy reached her dorm door and sighed, knocking her head against it in defeat. Her hand searched around in her pocket for her student card. It took longer than it should for her to feel only a small sliver of something and she paled. "Fuck nah, not today please."

Roxy made things vanish accidentally all the time. Big fuckin deal. But making things disappear in pieces was where it got tricky. Getting them back was even trickier. She looked at the half-existing, half-faded-away-into-some-mysterious-oblivion card in her hand and groaned. All that was left of it in this plane of existence was the scan strip, the edges of it gently fading away into perceived nothingness.

Roxy swiped what she had left of the card into the lock on her dorm room door. It blinked, and rejected her.

"Aw man. This has gotta be a fuckin joke."

Damn, Rosie was on a roll today. Roxy felt a pang of guilt at the thought of an actual normal family dinner. She would have loved an excuse to hear Rose tell about her day. It would be nice, probably, if they could get away with regular ole familial junk like that, though Roxy didn’t allow herself to think about it too often. She could give her mom credit for trying. And boy did she try. But the disconnect just felt too wide sometimes.

“Yeah, mom, besides it’s the first day of school. I’m sure you’re busy as hell, right! We can try to catch up… another time, maybe?”

Roxanna drooped. She could offer but she couldn’t make her daughters want to spend time with her. “Alright,” she let go, “I’ll be moving into the freshman dorms tonight, so you can stop by the RA room if you want to talk.”

She started packing up her papers, and added, “I have to stop by a store to get a few things for my new room. Do either of you need anything?” With a little hop she got off her stool and onto her feet, tucking the portfolio under her arm. The scientist was making no effort to hide her sad puppy feelings.

Rose rolled her eyes as hard as she could. Really, mother? Rose turned to give her sister a look before returning her gaze to her mother. “I suppose that anything would be better than cafeteria food.”

She gave an halfhearted shrug and pointedly looked away again, trying her best to look as malcontent about it as possible.

Roxy: Get Ready For School

Roxy left the west building with her ginormous bag bouncing behind her. Damn, she forgot how annoying it could be carrying junk around like this. But she was a strong kiddo, and today she’d deal with it because her excitement was enough to outweigh any petty annoyances.

Roxy thought it was too bad that the senior building were adjacent to Rose’s own. Rose knew Roxy would want to come see her before the day began, and she’d have spotted her right as Roxy left the building. Roxy liked making a game out of sneaking up on her. Rose was just too quick. But Roxy had the advantage sometimes, when willing her hands to disappear right before wrapping them around Rose from behind, or vanishing a book Rose was reading to distract her before pouncing next to her on the couch. Rose was never startled by it, and was probably just humoring Roxy, if she was honest with herself. But that was just another cute thing Rosie did.

Knowing she could be seen, although she hadn’t spotted Rose herself yet, Roxy threw her hands up and waved at Rose. She wiggled her hips in a little dance and then started running. When she saw Rose, poised as ever upon the freshmen building steps, Roxy beamed. She plopped herself down beside her and wrapped her arms around Rose’s shoulders.

“Rosie, good morniiing! I wish I could follow you around on your very first day. You know I’d tell you all the secrets you need to know about shady teachers and all them ominous lookin’ lunch items. Ick!” Roxy sighed. “But I’m really glad you’re here, anyway.”

A sly grin spread across Rose’s lips as she spotted her sister. She knew Roxy knew she could see her. She squirmed in her seat as she waited for her to reach her, then let herself be pulled into a hug. “I was starting to think you wouldn’t make it. Overslept again?” Despite herself, she had a soft smile on her lips. 

“At least you can rest safe in the knowledge that I won’t get food poisoning.” She weakly struggled against her arms, putting in just enough fight that she wouldn’t have to admit she liked it. “Plus, I’m not sure if I want to know any secrets, considering what I’ve already heard about the less wonderful things this school contains. Remember, if interrogated, you know nothing.” She was quiet for a bit. “I’m glad you’re here too.”

She got up and stretched, feeling her joints and bearings shift out of place, then back with satisfying pops. “Do you want to take a walk before class? I’ve yet had the time to properly explore this place, and I’d appreciate your company.”

“A cat garden?”

Felicity tilted her head in a cat-like manner, watching Roxy drop the kitten into the comfy pile they made for it. She took a seat beside the nest and pet the kitten, looking up at Roxy while she did.

“What do you mean by that? Your roommate likes dogs, doesn’t she? Dogs are stinky and scary.” Felicity typed, grimacing at the robotic voice coming from her phone speaker. It never conveyed emotion in the way she wanted it to.

“I feel that, cats are just so chill,” Roxy cooed, even as the kitten was biting at her hand and meowing up a tiny storm. “She’s a dog person all the way, though.”

“But oh yeah, a lil cat garden is just what we need! I’ll tell you what. I’ll take care of our precious munchkin here for a few days, if you go scoutin around for a sweet lil kitty paradise spot outside. Once we’ve got the most perf location, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to show ya.” Roxy gave the younger student a melodramatic wink.

Felicity grinned when Roxy accepted the kitten and pulled her back to her dorm room. She was certain that the senior was the right choice when it came to giving the kitten a home, and she was eager to help. She caught the blankets and began to make a nest for the black kitten; only pausing when Roxy asked who she was.

“Oh! I’m Felicity Rivers! I’m a sophomore.” She typed, letting the robotic voice on her phone introduce her.

“Well Felicity, my reputation probs proceeds me but you’ve def come to the right gal. Damn, cats are awesome.” Roxy just kind of stared for a moment while the cat squirmed around on her desk, Felicity busy with the blankets. Maybe she should actually help the kid.

Roxy fluffed up some pillows. “I gotta say,” she hummed, glancing over at her Jade’s bed, “my roommate isn’t so much of a cat person. I can probably keep this lil munchkin for a few days, but you know what we really need?“ Roxy lifted the kitten and plopped them into the cozy little pile they’d just created. The kitten meowed, and clumsily found their place amidst the fleece and cotton mess. “A cat garden!”

Lalondes: Attempt to Eat Dinner and Buy Dorm Supplies

Of all the talents Lalonde ladies possessed, Roxy knew conventional family interaction was not among them. Having Rose around made her feel more “normal” than she ever had, in a house with disappearing cats and light fixtures and, occasionally, mothers. Half the reason behind Roxy’s current march to the freshmen dorms was her ever-present need to dote on Rose, at least a little bit. But they both knew Roxy would need Rose just as much tonight.

Family dinners out were supposed to be a bit fancy, Roxy knew. Instead of dressing up, however, she had changed into a t-shirt and beat up glittery flats. Might as well be comfortable while trying to navigate casual conversation tonight.

Roxy hadn’t planned with Rose that she would show up now, and yet here she was anyway knocking on her dorm room door. There was half a chance Rose was expecting her, anyway.

She released a sight at the sight of her sister, blowing her bangs out of her face. Roxy reached for Roses arm, “and we thought chemistry was gonna be the worst we had to get through today.” She flashed Rose a smile that was miraculously genuine amidst the dread and nerves. “C’mon, let’s go.”

The skedaddle failed, and Mom called out over the other student, “Roxy, minha linda, come here. I have a question for you. Rose too.”

She didn’t even wait for her daughters to come closer before she launched into Portuguese, [I wanna buy you girls dinner tonight. Is there anywhere you wanna go?] A nice family dinner seemed so easy to Roxanna. I mean, that’s what normal families do, right? Maybe if she started sending out the olive branch Roxy would forgive her one day.

Rose didn’t seem to find this as amusing as Roxy did. She shoved the candy in her bag and stayed quiet for the rest of the class. 

She was about to let herself be lead out of the classroom, but she knew it wouldn’t work. Their mother wouldn’t just let them leave like that. At the sound of her voice, Rose rolled her eyes and turned back, looking as displeased as she possibly could.

“Thank you for the offer, mother, but I’d much prefer to go back to my sterile, barren room and wonder what I could have possibly done to deserve this fate. Unless you need to show me off some more?”

Felicity looked up at the person she bumped into, her expression immediately brightening. She scrambled to pull out her notebook and pen, but found it impossible to do with a kitten in her arms.

“Roxy! You’re Roxy, right? I found this kitten and I don’t know what to do! Are seniors allowed to keep pets?” The robotic voice of the text-to voice application on her phone droned on while she pet the squirming kitten in her arms.

Roxy grinned from ear to ear as she gently took the kitten from the younger student. “Hell yeah I’m Roxy Lalonde, and hell nope I aint allowed to have pets up in here.” She scratched the itty bitty animal in her hands behind the ear and it purred. “Anyway, come help me make a lil bed for the lil cutie!” She grabbed the other student by the wrist and pulled her along back into her dorm room.

Roxy playfully tosses a handful of blankets at the student and laughs. “So you know who I am already I guess! Now do tell, who are you?”
