Hello!!!! It is 3 am so I apologize if my writing skills aren't as sharp right now lmao I'm really jetlagged 😭
Humans are space orcs: Monks/Nuns
I always found the concept of these people who devoted their life to religion and cut themselves off from pleasures really weird. I have never been religious myself, but it seems so strange. You don't know if this thing is real. You just... Believe? I find it weird. There isn't scientific reasoning, and it hurts your body physically. If a fellow human and many others like them found it weird, how do you think aliens would feel about it?
Now, I have no doubt that aliens have all of their own strange and particular religions, so the concept isn't foreign to them, but maybe monks and nuns aren't as common. A lot of specific monks have insane physical strength and one of the largest concepts behind both nuns and monks is patience and devotion. They are a weird kind of human, you could say. So patient and devoted to a point that it's alien even to us. Maybe aliens have their own concept of monks or nuns?
But also if we think about it historically, a lot of people (especially nuns) didn't choose to be that way. Women who refused to marry were whisked off to convents and monasteries, never to indulge in their mortal desires openly. There was also a less known sect of these sorts of people (which isn't just monks and nuns but also people like ascetics) called Mendicants. They lived off of begging for money and food off the street. They did this voluntarily, even if it was a far harder life. How strange would that be to outer species, let alone our own?
