Hey who remembers this guy? Been awhile since we saw Spurling! Trying out some ideas for his non-surgical outfit. It turned out a little more military-esque than I meant, but perhaps this is extra formal. Tomorrow I'll work on Holland.

Laura ref! At least until I decide if she's going to have a prominent second outfit haha. Might do a second pass at this-- I kind of like the idea of drawing her upper torso more circular as a stylization thing, but unsure if it'll read her weight properly. And I'm keeping the Joiner surname for now-- if Owen's parents or grandparents moved to the mainland Empery and chose a Stelligan surname, it still works.

Isaiah and Abigail! I have not figured out the name of the country their dad's heritage is from, but it's equivalent to India or at least a section of it. Got more research to do! I also haven't decided if I'm changing the Joiner surname... If I say Laura lost Owen's surname when he died but the kids retained it, then Travis becomes Travis Joiner again, which I'm not opposed to. But I'm not sure it makes sense?? Hmmm.

Updated Mitchell ref! I really didn't change much for him-- since I've always drawn him with short grey hair the only thing that needed to be adjusted there was the underlying hue. He's now half Metzcualcatl on his father's side, though some people (read: Balthazar) still only refer to him by his Stelligan surname.

The Metzcualco Empire covers most of the equivalent-Americas, with a few treaties that allow colonies from other empires to exist (such as the Swathe of Avis established by the Stelliger Empery). While the lands closer to the capital generally remain stable, the farther out you go the more common it is for territories to shift in and out of empirical control, though this is usually a bloodless process. The Integritas movement that swept the southwest of the Swathe, particularly Greenmarsh, has destabilized the treaty created by the former Empress Avila, and Metzualco is moving to reabsorb control of the area in hopes of stopping the movement.

Heads up, I'm probably going to be redesigning a couple of characters. To be frank, I haven't done a very good job making a diverse cast, and I want to do better. Admittedly, I'm trepidatious about screwing up. But it's a necessary risk, and I feel I should be transparent.

Finished (I think) reference sheet for Irène! She's a scientist-nun from Pays de Cerfs, a smaller country currently independent from imperial control. I currently have her penciled in as a mineralogist focusing on the Volitrea, the purple crystals that keep the Volitantia afloat, but I may adjust this as I figure out her role in the story more!

Just a WIP, because I haven't decided if her habit and non-work outfits are going to feature enough to warrant full illustrations... I might just do colored sketches. They still need to be designed anyway. But I felt like posting something!

It's been slow progress as I haven't been feeling the best lately, but I just got this done! It's Travis! Everybody boo!

Edit: I edited this a tad-- made his hair more of a reddish auburn, changed the style of his hair's lower portion (I wanted a messier profile), and redrew the back of his shoes.
