“yeah? you know, huh? what do you think it is?” he hardly doubted that she knew it was a vampire, unless she was one himself. hopefully not the mate of the one on the pyre at the moment. next time he would have to figure something different to help lessen the body count. “hmm. i don’t know. despite the angelic face you don’t seem to have the demeanor of a good girl to me.”
she was becoming annoyed & it was extremely evident. “stop beating around the bush & tell me why you’re burning a vampire,” she hissed, not wanting to play his games anymore. jane wasn’t an incredibly patient person, so it was no surprise that she was becoming agitated without much effort on his part. “believe me when i tell you that you better think good & hard about your answer to that question,” she warned, arms crossing over her chest as she eyed the other. “because i can do plenty of damage without even touching you.”
“don’t you have some blatantly murdering vampires to track down and axe while trying to keep your own murdering of innocents under wraps to go do? rather than vaguely threatening me.” she wondered how many of them were in town but she didn’t trust that she would get an honest answer out of one of the more younger looking ones. if she remembered correctly the twins had serious power that she couldn’t escape. “what made you so curious to fight past my stench anyway?”
of course she knew that she needed to find whoever it was killing people, but that didn’t stop her from rolling her eyes at her comment. “yes, well believe it or not -- whoever’s doing this is quite good at covering their tracks. & as for what i do in my free time -- that’s truly none of your concern. however, i assure you -- murdering innocents is not something i’ve made a habit of.” jane knew better & she knew very well if she were to go around murdering innocents -- she’d be next on the volturi’s chopping block. “boredom,” she commented with a wicked smile.
regardless of how formal a creature was , the archangel took no chances . she had been to purgatory one too many times to not watch her back . this woman reeked of death and power . impressive though , azrael wasn’t allowing it to be known . after all , she was a monster and angels didn’t exactly see eye to eye with anything not of heaven . an eyebrow raised as she watched the other step backwards . “ reaping . “ azrael replied , with a slight shrug . “ you know , someone has to collect souls . and there’s been an increase in murders lately . death himself isn’t too pleased with those being killed before their clock is up . i hope – you aren’t the one doing it . “
jane wasn’t quite sure what to make of this unknown woman standing before her. of course she’d heard stories of other kinds of supernatural creatures that wandered the earth. however, until thus far, she’d never had the pleasure of meeting anything aside from a vampire or werewolf. “reaping,” she repeated the word, letting what the woman said next sink in as she continued to eye the stranger before her. “no -- i can assure you i’m not the one who’s running around killing people, if that’s what you’re insinuating.” there was no way in hell she was about to allow this stranger pin the blame for the murders in town on her. absolutely no way in hell.
“nothing but the back of the heads of the people that killed her. right in the middle of the day. isn’t that crazy?” very nondescript, she didn’t think they would be able to pin down any suspects without witness tips and it appeared there were none. not to mention, cops would be walking into a death trap all of their own if they had gotten a good lead on who had done it. it was her job and whatever other hunters had dared to venture here to get rid of the problem residents. “as for the others? animal attacks are usually used as their reasoning, despite coyotes tending to shy away from any sign of a human.”
“interesting.” that was the only word that came to mind upon hearing the other speak. there wasn’t a lot to go off of & truthfully, it didn’t really surprise her or the rest of the volturi. whatever supernatural creature & or creatures were killing these people had enough common sense to cover their tracks -- very successfully, clearly. not that she figured the devil hills police department was equipped with the right tools to take on whatever kind of creature was committing the murders. “suppose that’s the best story they can come up with, given the lack of witnesses & whatnot.”
the disgusting stench filling the town was hard to get away with and her mind was elsewhere, so she hadn’t noticed that her company had been of the vampire kind. taking a moment to fully take in the form of her company, the woman looked familiar. leah was pretty good with faces and could place her as a member of the volturi, however, no name came to mind. her mind had been focused on other matters during the confrontation, primarily the safety of seth and the pups in sam’s pack.
“’course not. my apologies. afraid. don’t think a live fish would have enough blood to feed you, either.” the smart path in this scenario would have been to play dumb, but leah wasn’t about to play nice with a member of the fang gang.
jane couldn’t help but chuckle at the other female’s comment, merely shaking her head. after everything that had happened with the cullen’s & the wolf packs, she couldn’t really blame the other in disliking her -- not that she truly cared. jane wasn’t typically a very likable person -- not as a human & definitely not as a vampire. the vampire merely shrugged her shoulders, nose crinkling up in disgust. “you’re not wrong,” chuckling again. “although, i’d suggest you refrain from making any more comments -- considering you’re a little outmatched.”
he had a feeling that this wasn’t going to end well, but he had put himself in this position and made it out of a few worse positions… so he wasn’t ready to beg for his life yet. “depends. what do you think i’m burning, sweetheart?” with lots of bodies dropping, he had no idea how to explain that he was cremating one a few miles outside of the city. there was an idea. maybe he could see if any of the local vet clinics offered the service of horse cremation and break in at night. “no matter how it looks i can assure you i’m one of the good guys.”
“i know what you’re burning -- so i suggest you tell me why.” jane was in no mood to play games & answer his stupid questions. “& i suggest you not try anything stupid, as i assure you it will not end well for you.” her eyes flickered back to the burning vampire momentarily before fixating on the male before her. “one of the good guys, huh? i’ll be the judge of that.”
she could hear the piercing cries coming from the man . and his cries sounded as if death itself was nearing . she followed the sound , almost being drawn to it just like a moth to light . just as she was turning the corner , her hands reached out to keep the other from hitting her head on . “ you’re forgiven and i know . “ the archangel replied . this creature in front of her was still so young physically and she couldn’t help but sense the darkness and power coming from her . it was strong . “ i do hope you’re not planning on making my job a lot harder than it will be . “ she couldn’t resist making the comment . after all , she was already on edge given the circumstances and the fact that all of her siblings were thrown out of heaven .
“wouldn’t dream of it.” the vampire took a few steps backward, hands raised to show she meant no harm. she’d already caused enough harm for the night & if the other members of the volturi knew what she’d just done -- she’d be in a great deal of trouble. “i’m sorry -- what job exactly are you speaking of?” jane couldn’t help but be curious, given the way she had said it. it was almost as though she knew what she’d just done to that man.
just her presence alone was starting to annoy him . they never did see eye to eye . not the strix nor the volturi . they both had separate agendas and the last thing tristan wanted was some little girl ruining what he had planned . “ i see . “ his eyebrows raised as he took note of her snark . “ well , one can’t help that they got word of certain events faster than others . “ the strix leader replied . “ besides , i have my very own private jet . it’s fast . “ he couldn’t resist tossing a bit of arrogance back towards the other ancient .
“ ah . let me guess – the balance of vampires are being disrupted by a newer breed of vamps or – could it be because of me ? i’m flattered . really but – i’m not here to fight you . it’s all business . and it’s my own personal . “ tristan stood up from where he sat , towering over the other . the corner of his lips curled into a smirk . “ i don’t answer to you , love . “ he replied , giving her a wink before setting fifty dollars on the table for the bartender .
“ order whatever you want . it’s already on me . “
this man was far more aggravating that what she’d expected. the stories she’d heard of him definitely portrayed him as being arrogant, but they just didn’t truly do him justice. jane could feel herself growing more & more irritated by the minute -- & while she was typically a highly irritable person, nothing had succeeded in making her this irritated. “i don’t care about your private jet,” rolling her eyes at his words. if he was trying to push her buttons, he was doing a damn good job.
“the volturi’s agenda is none of your concern.” it was situations like this that caused the very well put together façade she put on to fumble & that immense amount of power she held within her to slip. jane was rarely alone, so she always had someone to pull back on the reigns & bring her back to reality -- however, now she was alone. the person that had to pull back on the reigns was herself & she didn’t know if she held enough trust within herself to do so. “stop,” she instructed, rising to her own feet as she eyed the other vampire. “either you sit & we have ourselves a nice little chat -- or this will end very poorly for you.”
jane was angry & frustrated. as much as she adored aro & the other members of the volturi, she couldn’t help but have mixed feelings about being sent here alone. they knew her & how out of control she could be at times -- surely they had to have known she’d crumble under the pressure at some point. surely it wasn’t a surprise that she lost control -- allowing herself to succumb to the power she housed within her, bringing a complete stranger to their knees in complete agony. having realized what she’d done, the vampire fled the scene -- hurrying away from her victim & damn near colliding with another person. “my apologies -- that man back there’s screaming for who knows what & i’ll admit, it’s a bit terrifying.”
he knew very well of her but never has he met the young volturi . they came from two different types of vampire . while she was more of a descendant from a god , his own sire was the product of dark magic . both so similar in many ways . but he was arrogant . prideful even . his ego had a habit of outshining everything else about him . her voice caught his attention even more than just her mere presence which – he tried to ignore . just when he was going to claim this town as his own . tristan straightened up, chin tilting up to meet her gaze .
“ and you must be the admirable jane from the volturi . “ he replied , lips forming into a slight smirk . “ i don’t believe i’ve had the pleasure and forgive me for not introducing myself sooner . i’d expect you and the others to show up but not this soon . “ he rose from where he sat , grabbing his drink . “ what do i owe the pleasure this fine dark evening ? “
her first instinct was always to instill fear in others by using her power, but now hardly seemed like the time. “the pleasure is all yours, i’m sure,” came her snarky reply, rolling her eyes -- clearly already beyond annoyed with this interaction. “i’m not certain we showed up soon enough -- all things considered.” jane had heard whispers of what was happening within the city’s limits, & she was certain those that still remained in volterra had as well.
“must you ask? i’m sure you are well aware of why i’m here.” it was no secret that the strix & the volturi didn’t see eye to eye -- & she was certain it wasn’t a surprise that the volturi would send one of their guard members to keep watch over them. “& if you know what’s good for you, you will tell me what i want to know. do you understand?”
“I’m starting to get the feeling that I should have stayed far away from here.” Optimism was one of Raisa’s strong suits, but the town seemed as if the only thing that could resolve all of its issues was an army of hunters. Certainly, there weren’t enough around to keep all of the vampires, werewolves, demons, angels, and God knew what else roaming the streets. “Did you hear they found a body in the mall yesterday? And twelve others all over town. ”
while the volturi were incredibly interested in the strix & whatever it was they were doing, they were also quite intrigued with the city of devil hills itself & whatever was happening within it. jane hadn’t heard much except hushed whispers from time to time about whatever it was that was happening, so this was a treat. “no -- do they have any idea who or what could have killed them?” of course she had her own ideas, but she needed to know more & perhaps this girl would be able to give her more information.
Burning a vampire body in the trees a few miles past Rock Creek was risky, he knew. But he couldn’t leave a beheaded body with fangs in an alley downtown either. Cursing under his breath when the snap of a branch indicated he was no longer alone Asa forced his best charming smile onto his face. “Not exactly a public bonfire, I’m afraid.”
that smell -- the same smell she’d encountered countless times before. the same smell that always left the same burning sensation within her nostrils. someone, somewhere was burning a vampire -- & she intended to know why. it didn’t take her long to move through the woods, darting between trees rather graciously. soon enough she came to a clearing, brows furrowing at the male’s words. “i will ask you this once, & i suggest you give your answer a great deal of thought before blurting it out,” the vampire warned, not having the time or patience to give him many chances. “what are you burning & why?”
It didn’t take long for Leah to realize she was in far over her head by coming here. Certainly, she wouldn’t be able to put a dent in the obvious monster problem in the town without help. Yet, she had completely kept to herself since her arrival, fishing on the pond at Rock Creek and eating her dad’s recipe for fish fry or getting takeout from one of the various restaurants around. The forest surrounding Devil Hills was comforting, but she also couldn’t help but miss the ocean and cliffs that she constituted home, despite not having been there for a few months.
Hearing the approach of another and realizing that she was no longer alone, Leah cast her line back out into the small pond and popped another piece of crispy fish into her mouth. “If you’re hungry you could catch a few? And maybe I would consider making you a batch back at my cabin. I’m pretty ravenous myself.” It didn’t phase Leah that she would come off as rude since there was a large plate of the fried fish sitting on the dock rail beside where she was standing. Truthfully, it was unlikely that she would pass on the opportunity to let her dad’s genius spice blend grace the tastebuds of someone new… but she was going to make them work for it.
jane couldn’t remember a time she’d felt so out of place. she missed volterra & despite what others may believe, she missed the rest of the volturi. this place was so peculiar & different, she wasn’t certain she liked it just yet. the woods had proved to be a good escape thus far & the vampire appreciated it. the getaway was much needed, as she found herself struggling to not make people crumble in agony -- she’d gotten so used to tormenting people with her power that not being able to do so was driving the vampire mad.
the sight of the other girl & the stench that followed was enough to bring the brunette to a halt. this girl -- while she seemed oddly familiar, jane couldn’t put a name to her face. “not really my thing,” giving a shake of her head.
she’d like this place better if the whole possible end of the world wasn’t happening. there were so many beings she’d never come across here. and humans, of course. fari would put money on those who smelled like metal being hunters. it got her hackles up enough to finally drag herself out of the rented cabin for a drink. ultimately, the tipsy vixen seemed like the one place to not find someone normal. she’d taken a table in the back with an order of whiskey and a burger. the music in the background was distracting enough from the rest of the world that she could drink in peace, safe in short heels and a thick leather jacket that hid her chest. until of course someone else’s chair rammed into her’s spilling the liquid all over the table. and the subsequent lucky person passing by to get alcohol on their pants. she bares her teeth at the offending party, halfheartedly passing over a napkin to the wet stranger. “fuck-sorry.”
being alone & in a public setting was a completely different than what jane was used to. volterra was incredibly different than devil hills, & while the change was somewhat welcomed -- adjusting to the change was more difficult than she’d imagined. jane had watched the whole situation unfold & while she typically wasn’t the forgiving type -- always one to make people suffer for wronging her or her brother, she knew this wasn’t the girl’s fault. “do not fret,” she mumbled, a sort of sadistic smile appearing upon the brunette’s features.
“you are not the one to blame.” while the tipsy vixen was known to be generally filled to the brim with supernatural creatures of all kinds, the volturi held their own to a certain standard -- & with those standards came strict guidelines. jane wouldn’t make this person suffer now, but she’d be damned if they got away completely unharmed.
the tipsy vixen was quiet around this time , hours before the crowds set in to start all the fun . while he enjoyed the amusement , it was the quietness and the slow time of day that he enjoyed the most . he wouldn’t dare be caught around during the later evening fun . not without a cause . his gaze remained downward as he looked at the newspaper before him , a pint of beer resting in front and towards the right . if anyone was sitting next to him , he was ignoring them . after all , he was somewhat closed of towards beings that he didn’t know . especially in this new place . a place he was just settling in with the rest of the strix . still though , one can only be curious as to why so many different beings seemed to crowd this place . tristan continued reading until his eyes glanced up and over towards the tv screen .
jane wasn’t used to being alone -- typically wherever she went, various other members of the volturi followed. & while she was more than capable of taking care of herself, it was rare that she was ever left to truly fend for herself. since arriving in devil hills, she’d mostly kept to the shadows, choosing to remain hidden & only make her presence known when absolutely necessary. aro had given her the task of eyeing the strix, & while she wasn’t thrilled with the task he’d given her, jane was never one to turn down anything the man said.
she wasn’t certain she’d ever met the esteemed leader of the strix face to face -- & if she had, he hadn’t left a decent impression, clearly. jane had, however, been given all the information she needed about a certain tristan de martel, & she couldn’t say she was impressed. it didn’t take much effort to find him & as she entered the tipsy vixen, making her presence in town known for the first time upon arriving, her petite frame graciously crossed the room, settling into the seat beside him. “tristan de martel -- i do not believe we have met. & if we have, you will have to remind me, as i have forgotten.”
( maia mitchell, 18/unknown, female, she/her ) well if it isn't jane. rumor is that they’re a(n) vampire from twilight and they found their way to devil hills, ks 2 days ago. they can be a bit cruel & impulsive, but some of that is made up by their tendency to be intelligent & cunning. one of their top played songs is you should see me in a crown by billie eilish. some sights and sounds that embody them are black silk robes, clenched fists, blood stained clothes & a deep rage hidden by a sweet face.. hopefully they pick the right side of things or stay out of the way.

ʙɪᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ
jane was born in england around 800 a.d. to an anglo-saxon woman and a frankish soldier. she was born just a few minutes before her fraternal twin brother, alec. even as humans, both twins displayed strong physic abilities.
aro wanted to add both twins to the guard at a rather young age, however the volturi had already instated their strict guidelines on turning children -- therefore, he had to wait until they were old enough to turn. their talents had not yet taken a focused shape, however those who wronged either twin typically had bad things happen to them, while those who showed the twins kindness found themselves in their good graces.
eventually both twins were found too frightening to endure and were accused of being witches, condemned to be burned at the stake. upon hearing the news, aro hurried to the city and was able to save both twins from execution. both twins were turned, and soon became the most prized members of the guard due to their incredibly powerful gifts.
after the pain she experienced while burning at the stake and the anger she felt towards the villagers, jane’s power took on a sharper form after turning -- giving her the power to inflict the same burning pain on others in the form of illusion. about a decade after joining the volturi, both jane and alec’s powers were displayed for the first time -- completely destroying a coven’s army. since then, both twins have been considered the cornerstone of the volturi’s offensive abilities.
over the years, jane’s frightening power has made her incredibly sadistic -- she’s come to actually enjoy inflicting pain on others and receiving respect for the power she possesses.
ᴄᴀɴᴏɴ ᴄʜᴀɴɢᴇs
it’s rare that jane is ever separated from her brother and the rest of the volturi, so being here has made her incredibly on edge -- meaning she’s prone to using her power without giving much thought behind why she’s using it. it also doesn’t help that she’s sadistic in nature, therefore she has little to no remorse for using it.
while here, jane’s been keeping a very close eye on the strix -- meanwhile, also trying to avoid encountering one of the originals, as she doesn’t want to find out just how much power they actually have.
for the most part, jane’s been keeping to herself as much as possible.
