But I’m open minded and always willing to listen.” From her father, she had learned that creatures of all sorts could learn to control themselves. She only went after the ones that seemed unwilling and unable to change, they had to be a bit murderous to catch the eye of a hunter, anyway. Not to mention, her experience with hunting had been short lived, secret trips and nearly failing out of college due to her wandering eyes for the suspicious deaths throughout the state. “I’m not heartless… and most people like me aren’t. Some of them have a hard time not seeing in black and white, but – their hearts are in the right place too.”

  There should be a sort of kinship with this girl and what little Fari knows of her.  But she’s a hunter and that puts her hackles up every time.  “I haven’t had the best experience with those in your profession.  Many of them shoot first and ask questions later.”  Her nails are scratching at jeans and she wishes she was more covered up than just a sweater.  Folds arms over chest with shifting stance.  “We’re all here because shit’s going down.  If people focus on that and not me or the wolves or the fucking vegetarian vampires I’ve heard of, great we won’t have a problem.  But if some power hungry asshat turns a weapon on me because of what I am, I’m gonna use my teeth.”

             “for fuck’s sake. you need to snap out of it! you can do whatever you put your damn mind to.” leah wouldn’t get an award for pep talks any time soon, but she wasn’t about to sit back and let fari have a meltdown. sympathy wasn’t always her strong suit, but she could see the strength in the woman before her and she wasn’t about to let it crumble away because of the threat of hunters in the town. as far as leah was concerned, people like her weren’t monsters and any hunter with half of a brain cell would see that. 

            “you could kick any one of their asses, easily. the hunters are far too focused on all of the killing machines in town to give a damn about us. especially if we want to help them keep people safe. that’s what we’re made for.”

 she snarls a deep rumble.  the bitter part of her that tends to lend itself more to feline instincts is tempted to reach out and swat at leah.  it would be funny.  or satisfying because the wolf clearly wasn’t that great of a people person.  neither was fari to be fair.  she liked her peace and quiet until she found a surrogate pride.  leah was one of the few people she could see herself liking.  bares her teeth and forces back claws from ripping out of nails.  she still doesn’t know what predators are indigenous to kansas, but she knows a lion isn’t one of them.       “i didn’t even want to come here.  i should...be home, but it’s the end of the fucking world or whatever so i guess i live here now.  i don’t even know how to hunt half of the things that are here unless they can all just be killed by decapitation.”

    The moment she stepped into the Tipsy Vixen she realized she had made a grave error. Perhaps it was her own paranoia and that was what she would try to tell herself until proven otherwise, but she was immediately unsettled. Were a few of the gazes as she shut the door behind her lingering too long? Did some of the people invading the town like she had a few weeks ago recognize her? She hoped that they didn’t care either way… because Sam was dead as far as she knew. Without him to torment she was… nobody.

      Pursing her lips while fighting the instinct to turn and run, Jess held her chin high and walked calmly to the bar. Ordering a whiskey sour and a few shots for some extra courage, she decided she wouldn’t be deterred from a break from her clientele at Twisted Bull. A few free drinks from her regulars was nice, but she was interested in the fact that this bar had a shuffleboard table. Were people interested or did people assume a previous owner got the idea from a retirement home? The quiet rumbling of voices made it hard to eavesdrop on anyone that wasn’t too close to her.

       Throwing back one of her shots, she tried to keep her demeanor as collected as possible, though it would be easy for anything nonhuman to hear how fast her heart was beating. “Pretty busy for a Tuesday.”

 The girl was human.  And anxious in a way that made Fari’s ears prick.  Had she not realized the danger of walking into such a bar?  Or was there something else scaring her?  There was no one really near enough to her to cause any danger.  No one who smelled like they were about to turn or do something stupid.  But it was instinct to move, taking her drink with her.  “Well y’know, folks are comfortable here.”  Living there a month had given her about enough time to figure out the pattern of things.  Where certain species hung out, where to avoid.  Where to get decent coffee and a chocolate croissant.   She tossed hair out of her face, consciously keeping her expression more gentle than usual.  It was hard for her to make friends lately and this one seemed like a fair choice.  “You don’t seem like the type that...usually frequents this place.  You just here out of curiosity or for the hair of the dog recipe?”

  she’d like this place better if the whole possible end of the world wasn’t happening.  there were so many beings she’d never come across here.  and humans, of course.  fari would put money on those who smelled like metal being hunters.  it got her hackles up enough to finally drag herself out of the rented cabin for a drink.  ultimately, the tipsy vixen seemed like the one place to not find someone normal.  she’d taken a table in the back with an order of whiskey and a burger.  the music in the background was distracting enough from the rest of the world that she could drink in peace, safe in short heels and a thick leather jacket that hid her chest.  until of course someone else’s chair rammed into her’s spilling the liquid all over the table.  and the subsequent lucky person passing by to get alcohol on their pants.  she bares her teeth at the offending party, halfheartedly passing over a napkin to the wet stranger.  “fuck-sorry.”

(amiyah scott, 28, trans female, she/her) Well if it isn’t Fari Colley.  Rumor is that she’s a lion shifter from Twilight and she found her way to Devil Hills, KS 30 days ago.  She can be a bit stubborn & defensive, but some of that is made up by her tendency to be protective & social.  One of her top played songs is apex predator by mean girls broadway.  Some sights and sounds that embody her are sunlight through the trees, black coffee, sunwarmed furniture and fluffy cats.  Hopefully she picks the right side of things or stays out of the way.  (Drayce, they/them, 22, PST, r.pe and animal death)  

History

Fari comes from a long history of lions.  Like the Quileutes, they adapted a secondary form in defense against vampires.  Unlike them though, they always have their animal shape it does not have to be ‘triggered’ by puberty or some other event.  High emotions can still bring on a shift and they have to work on mastering control of it from a young age.  

She is the eldest of three siblings to the Colley family, her first shift being brought out out of protectiveness of her siblings.  She was to help guide them in the ways of the pride and family.  Each pride often consists of the parents, children and children’s partners.  Children often break off at adulthood to form their own pride should they wish to.   The lions in her region of Zambia would occasionally help hunters that came their way, pointing them in the direction of any vampires or threats they’d seen.  One of the local hunting groups had interest in the prides, offering to take on any of the kids as apprentices.  Some families accepted, Fari’s refused.  They wanted to teach her how to hunt without any special weapons.   It was around her fifteenth birthday when Fari had been given permission to patrol alone that the same hunters caught up to her.  In order to prevent her family from finding her, they put out a scent trail in the other direction.  Fari was added to their small group of lions that were rented out to anyone who had use of a couple apex predators.  The lionesses there took her in and it was then she started questioning her gender.  It took three years for her to become the hunt lead and she took over protecting any new lions coming in.   A failed hunt produced enough chaos for her and the others to get loose.  She tried to keep track of the rest, but they were all heading in different directions.  With no money or ID she snuck her way to the states at 25 and made a decent living as a bartender before moving to Devil Hills.
