To the Writers of Teen Wolf, Season 6 Episode 17.
First of all, yes I am a fan of the show. My girlfriend had me watch and I got hooked. The story is fairly solid.
In reference to tonight's episode, Season 6, Episode 17, Werewolves of London, I only have one thing I want to talk about. The obvious Fear Mongering you wrote in about guns. I am an advocate of the right to bear arms and I'd like to talk about the specifications of the gun Peter, Ian Bohen's character, talked about.
1) The G36 does not shoot 750 rounds in 1 minute. The math on that is easy, that would require 12.5 rounds to be fired a second, which is not possible. Rather, the G36 has a 750rounds/min CYCLIC rate of fire. Cyclic rate of fire basically means that it is the average it could fire if certain variables wouldnt take effect. Several different measurements are used. The fastest and most commonly quoted rate is the cyclical rate of fire. However, heat (possibly leading to weapon failure) and exhaustion of ammunition mean most automatic weapons are unlikely to sustain their cyclic rate of fire for a full minute. That is why lower rates apply in practice and it is incorrect to describe the cyclic rate of fire as "the number of rounds a weapon can fire in one minute."
You're not wrong in the sense that you quoted the correct cyclic rate of fire, but youre holding out on some facts that it would not be possible to sustain the cyclic rate for a whole minute.
2) The length of time the hunter was shooting is another big thing. I would say that the amount he shot out of the G36, once it was loaded, was about the full clip that Peter gave him, which the magazines available for the G36 are either the 30 round magazine or the 100 round drum mag, so yes it was definitely a 30 round mag that Peter tossed to him. But when it jams up you can only see about 14 bullet holes in the glass. Even though it was shot for about 30 seconds, give or take 10 seconds. Even if it did have a slightly lower rate of fire, it would still be out of ammo after that much sustained firing. It would not be jammed up, it'd be empty. Yes, i really did use my DVR to count how much he fired, and in the time between he loaded up and started shooting, to the point where Scott McCall said "There's something wrong with him." He had shot at least 22 rounds and was still shooting, at least another 10 more rounds.
3) Ownership of fully automatic weapons is illegal in America. The G36 does have a semi-auto option, but a full auto version would not be available to private citizens. Mind you, Gerard is a licensed arms salesman, but he still would not be allowed to legally sell that weapon. So, in a sense by providing a bad guy with a gun, you are proving that prohibition of guns would not work. You believe that gun laws would work because they are laws, but prove with Gerard and his hunters that bad guys dont obey laws. By limiting free trade, you create a black market of things you dont believe should be available. It's the same reason I am opposed to the War on drugs and believe ALL drugs should be decriminalized, because limiting the sale of drugs creates a black market and makes the sale and use of drugs and guns a lot more dangerous.
Guns are morally neutral, theyre only bad based on the intent of the user. Some people's moral compass is pointed in the wrong direction, that is obvious as there is an abundant amount of people in this country who believe that by voting for the right person, theyre new master will solve all of our problems, whether by force or not. But dont forget, the amount of people who couldve voted in the 2016 election and did not vote is still the majority.
