I accidentally walked in on the goddess Artemis bathing. It was this or get turned into a deer and devoured by my own hounds.
You know castration anxiety and penis envy? I've got, like, the opposite of both of those.
I seriously misinterpreted Valorie Solanas.

What? No, I've always been like this. Are you feeling okay? Hold on, I'll call a doctor.
Whenever a post starts with "I have no sympathy for", you can almost guarantee you're in for some edgy stupidity from an asshole who mostly wants to revel in making other people angry.
There's much to criticize about armed forces in general and the American military in particular (and I'd rather have all my teeth removed without painkiller than join any military), but the chances of hearing it from a former personal and fandom blogger who seems to have only learned what politics were about a year ago are zero.
In any case, no, it was not easy for American men to avoid the draft during the Korean and Vietnam Wars (since cagandante is American, you can bet money they were thinking primarily of the American draft). It was easy for middle and upper class men to do so.
If you weren't either, and especially if you weren't White, you were probably fucked. And in that case, a felony conviction would have far more of an effect on your life than it would for someone who was middle or upper class. Felony convictions make it a lot more difficult to find a job, rent an apartment, or apply for public assistance programs. The idea in the notes that it just means you can't vote is pure clownery.
Leftists and evil shitlibs alike are often aware that the American justice system has a way of trapping those with felony convictions in a cycle of recidivism (and are critical of it, to varying degrees), but Cagandante and co. don't seem to be among them. Oh well.
On this memorial day I'd like to memorialize my father-in-law. He's not dead or anything, he was just jailed for conscientiously objecting to and dodging the Vietnam draft, and I just think that's neat 🇺🇲🇺🇲
Never No Locomotive
So things can only stay as a draft on AO3 for a month before they are deleted. My month is up today with this story so I have decided to put it out there. (Hesitantly...maybe if you like it... download it...my finger still hovers over the delete button) It's set in 1965 when the draft for the Vietnam war was calling for greater and greater numbers of young men. It deals with avoiding the draft, the attitudes towards Black people and LGBTQ people, the sexism of the era and the countercultural vibe of the East Village. It's an East Village, beat poetry, counter culture, draft evading, fake marriage, corruption exposing fic, if that's the kind of thing you like then this is for you!
The original idea came from @arsenicpanda who gave the prompt and who also beta read this for me. Any errors of grammar or taste that remain are entirely mine. Thanks to @sullypants for looking it over and offering characteristically wise words. Please heed the tags.
What’s that? A song? Which magnificent tune from The Mountain Goats should accompany the story? This one.
Okay; requests-- this is hyper-specific but something Russingon set in the Vietnam war? If that's hard to see for you I'd also be happy with something Fingon-focused based on the song "Army Dreamers" by Kate Bush. Hopefully one of those suggestions appeals to your muse :')
“I was just thinking,” said Maedhros, eyes flicking around the workshop. It was scrupulously clean, the diamond saw sparkling icily in the strip lights, because Fingon never did anything by halves.
Even so, when he’d said ‘I’ll keep you out of there,’ Maedhros had smiled and thanked him, and gone back to saying his goodbyes because he couldn’t get out of it, whatever idiot, self-destructive scheme Fingon was planning. Not when his father had pushed so damn hard for this war, had burned his own career to ashes getting Congress to agree.
He should have had more faith. “It’s a great idea in principle,” he murmured as the saw purred to life, like a contented cat. “No question. But. Does it have to be the whole hand? If you just take the trigger fingaaagh!”
“Sorry,” said Fingon, taking off his ear protectors. His face was freckled with blood. “What was that?”
