things are going so well with the boyfriend and we’re living the cliche typical life, just happily plodding along in our wee flat together. he’s supportive, caring and just a great guy. everything is good and i have no reasons to have doubts or anything but i can’t help but have this fear. 

i’m only 22 and he’s 29 (23 and 30 this year) and recently he’s been talking about marriage and kids and buying a house a lot. all the typical middle class things to aspire to, the things i longed for when i was younger. we’re also both from the same small place and he wants to move back there in a few years. we’re both very open in our discussions and he knows i have my doubts. he spent his whole life there and only moved away to be with me. i, however, only lived there until i was around 11 so i don’t have the same bond with the place. i have the fear of being trapped on an island and everyone knowing my business. i have the fear of missing the city life, missing the access to everything you have here, the fear of having kids and then being trapped in a place i originally had doubts about...

like, one half of me loves the idea of having this security. as i said, it’s all i wanted when i was younger. but, me being me, i have doubts about every single thing in my life. i don’t even know who i am so how am i supposed to make such big life decisions? i have so many pros and cons for every different scenario. i don’t want to second guess everything and then just push the boyfriend away. but i also don’t want to be trapped. fuck, i like girls too but haven’t even had the chance to pursue a relationship with one yet (i realise it’s not all about gender, but you know)

so many questions. was i ever actually the kinda person who wasn’t bothered about kids and would live alone in a city and travel alone? or was that just who i *wanted* to be? this idea of an independent person who didn’t want for or need anyone... am i actually just the kind of person who is quite happy to have an average job that they’re not particularly passionate about, paying off a mortgage and looking after a few kids? would that be so bad? do i just worry about this because i fear other people will see this as “unfeminist”, “boring”, “average”

am i just scared of commitment or are these legitimate worries?
